Why would any overseas trainer want ti put their horse into quarantine for 8-12 weeks(?) just for the chance of running. I'm sure that there are other less expensive options for a race with no history.

Especially given they have to stump up for 3 years worth of entries.

time to get a syndicate together to get Vote For Lust into the field

One of mine finished last in a Bathurst maiden last time out but am happy to keep her in work for this.

Any sponsors keen?

I heard Mick Price on the radio this morning, he as asked about Flying Artie and Extreme Choice running in this race, he said that the owners were thinking about it but if they did run it would mean that Flying Artie would have to miss a breeding year and might ruin his value at stud etc. If he does run and gets to race another year then its a good concept! but i doubt that would happen. (and in other news Flying Artie is set for the Newmarket and Extreme Choice the Oakleigh Plate. and both will miss the william reid and go to the Tommy Smith Stakes.)
The more i think about it, the more i think i am off the fence and think the timing is wrong and there are too many obstacles for it to succeed in Australia. It will take from the Caulfield carnival, it wont attract and decent overseas horses cos its too close to the breeders cup, it wont attract European horses cos for one thing the sprinters probably aren't good enough. Japan might send one or 2 down. Hong Kong horses will dominate the fields.

HK is only in pre-season at that time.

The TJ Smith had no history yet now it's one of the premier sprints on the racing calendar.

This race much like the Pegasus is not for racing fans but to attract people who normally wouldn't go or have an interest in racing. Time will tell if its a success and if it fails so be it. Afterall Magic Million/ SAJC have wrecked the Adelaide Cup!
