Mega Thread The "everything sucks" thread.

I've slept on it and I'm still angry. And I'm angry that I'm still angry.

I was avoiding all footy media last week. I'm spending this week listening to my iPod and watching YouTube cat videos. I hope the GF is a massive suck-fest. I think it's time to wean myself off this horrible league.

Just do the same this week, come back for the draft. I think that is what I will do. And if you think the umpiring is bad in the AFL, you should check out the ref'ing in the NRL.

ETA: Oh, and avoid the main board, mouth breathers everywhere on there.

I've had my cry, but I don't feel better. In fact, I feel angry that I care so much about a fricking football team - or, as my hubby put it, a bunch of men kicking around a bag of wind over a patch of grass. I feel even angrier that the team I cried for is part of a corrupt league that I would like to spit upon and never give any more of my time and energy to ever again. How am I supposed to reconcile these two things?

I will go on to say that at this moment, while I know 14 other teams would have loved to be in our position, I have absolutely hated this year because we came so close only to fall short. I think I would've handled being out of the 8 better, knowing we were rebuilding for another tilt than being told all year we were just lucky to be where we were on the ladder. And what sort of league has media sycophants that does shit like that? Last week, Sydney should have won because they were gallant - this week, the Hawks eon because they were awesome and brave? **** that to hell and back, that makes me want to spit on AFL even more.

Yes, the Hawks were the better finishing team. Yes, my team shot itself in the foot. But **** it, despite the fact that the umps were giving my team NOTHING (after the AFL placed a known Hawk fanboy to adjudicate a prelim, talk about integrity) and paying Hawthorn everything (8 meter marks, for ****s sake, and so many gifted goals) and Fyfe playing on one ******* leg, we were still in it to win it. This tells me that if there was any semblance of fairness in the umpiring, we could've won that ******* game. More spitting. I spit on you, AFL.

As a supporter, as a minimum, I expect two things every time I watch a game:

1) that my team plays to the best of its ability.
2) that the ******* league that my team plays in gives both teams that take the field a ******* fair go.

First is my team's responsibility - and despite the appalling skill errors, I cannot fault the effort and the heart that went into that game. The second? ******* AFL screwed it up, as it always does. How am I supposed to reconcile wanting to support a team and therefore supporting a competition in a league that I have zero respect for and do not trust to give my team a ******* fair go? I spit on you some more, AFL. Spit until I'm out of spit, and then spit again once I've replenished it.

While I'm at it, I am infuriated by the fact that this screwing over from AFL house has been going on all ******* year, and our administration are toeing the party line and copping it as part of the game. If supporters can see it, they sure as hell can see it themselves. Why the **** are they just letting our players hang out to dry? Cop the ******* fine and ask the hard questions, protect your players, for ****s sake. If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem - the FFC is part of the problem. Spit some more.

Okay, rant over. But I still don't feel better. And frankly I don't know if I can be as emotionally invested next year. I feel cheated. I wonder how the players feel. I don't know how they can get up for this shit each week knowing what they'll cop. So much heart... But unfortunately heart doesn't get it done versus the best teams who are also being dragged by the bootstraps by a corrupt league with an agenda. :(
Well I've been reading this forum for weeks without joining. Your post Sums up my feelings to a tea barring the bit about the FFC being part of the problem and has forced my hand in signing up so I can contribute and share our feelings. This hurts so bad because of all you have outlined. We invest so much time, energy and emotion into following and supporting our team only for it to go unrewarded as a result of extremely poor umpiring and some bad skill errors. Channel 7 should be ashamed and of course hawthorn are just such a special team, great effort travelling twice in 3 weeks. Pretty sure we do it 11-12 times a year but no one wants to hear about that. it's hard to say we won't support the same way next year - we know when it comes around again it'll be no different to this year. It's drug. And it's not available for another 7 months.

All I can say is thank **** for cricket season.

I whole heartedly agree about the terrible umpiring and the use of a known Hawks supporter to officiate the game. Would it be worth putting together a petition and sending it to both afl house and the media to highlight the disgust of our fans?

Condolences for last night Freo fans. The umpires murdered you in the first and handed those Hawk flogs the momentum all night. Last quarter you needed to roll the dice and those two turnovers killed it.

I was cheering you on big time for a couple of reasons. I really wanted a Western Derby GF because it would have been epic. Also I have a cousin in Perth who is a massive Freo fan and he's been literally on deaths door for the past six weeks, this likely was his last chance to see a Freo premiership and we were all thinking he was holding on just to keep watching Freo these finals.

Anyway maybe that will help you all think about your disappointment in a slightly different light. It's a game, it gets emotional and last night sucked but it isn't life and death.

Good luck in trade week and hopefully both WA teams can be at the top of the ladder again next season to give those Victorian flogs more to whinge about.:thumbsu:

p.s. All bets (and gloves) are off come derby week.;):D

It ended up being really close but the players shot themselves in the foot.

Given this is the everything sucks thread I'd throw in the absolute abhorrent nature of those two incidents involving fans on the fence. At no time in any game at this level is that behavior ever to be a part of going to the football. What was insane was that the people next to both sets of those jerks jumped right in as if it was some massive tribal thing of pride to get in on.

I don't think I've seen two incidents like it ever in the history of my watching football. I hope those guys get publicly shamed and receive bans.
I think you need to take into account that it was a prelim and tempers were white hot after the terrible umpiring and they were also in the MINORITY of the crowd.

ETA: Oh, and avoid the main board, mouth breathers everywhere on there.

I already saw that. with officiating, I know that you can get ump howlers at any game. After all, people make mistakes. What shits me about this is I don't trust the league to give my team a fair go. Are we really a -52 team that deserved to be punished for stupid mistakes? And I know it's not just about the count, but it's what's also not paid and where it's paid that counts, but the number is the most objective measure.

Is it a skills thing? Maybe. Are we that dirty a team? I don't accept that. Why are we copping it the most, then? Is it because they're trying to encourage a full attacking game plan, and we're a team that shows defense is equally effective? It's hard not to think that it's because we're not part of the AFL agenda. And there's no one standing for us in the media because it's all backed by the AFL machine and that just wouldn't sell the story, being a "small," low-drawing (in Victoria) interstate club. No power, not fashionable - not worth a voice.

One of the greatest games of football I've watched in years until it broke open in the last ten minutes - had so many subplots in the main story - but overall a fantastic effort by two great teams.
Always plenty of ifs and buts as your coach said after the game - but in the end they were cleaner and more composed and that is why they are going for the three peat .
No shame here -
Bring on next season -

I am not a Freo fan but when it comes to Bulls..t like yours, I will defend them to the hilt!!

Because of my passion for the game, I have travelled to all AFL grounds around the country 20years plus (been a fan for longer) to watch different clubs play and I have witnessed the good, bad & ugly at every ground from every team and yours is definitely no different!!!

We needed to read the writing on the wall better. Goals = TV adds = money. We are a team near the top of the ladder but in the bottom half of scoring. The AFL hate us. We are leading the charge of teams aiming to restrict scoring and Hawthorn / West Coast are the golden child's who score freely. The AFL would love 18 teams like Hawthorn and West Coast. Even the media were spouting If we made it to the GF it wouldn't be good for football long term. They want Bulldogs v Adelaide style finals. Scoring is drying up progressively over the years and the AFL is unsure how to increase the goals. We are seen as the 'bad boys'. The perception needs to change. Hawthorns chippy chippy use to be booed and considered boring by the fans. Somehow that perception has quietened down. It's all media driven.

I'm not sure how we change the perception of the club. But it's essential, it ties in to frees awarded. Media backlash. Player psychology.

1. The umpiring in the first quarter wasn't up to AFL standard. I've slept on it and am still p1$$ed off about it.

2. You can't expect to win big games if you don't take the chances you create.

3. You can't expect to win big games if you make a bunch of critical mistakes that gift the opposition goals.

4. Each of the above is amplified when you have a game plan that doesn't manufacture a lot of scoring shots.

5. The strength of Hawthorn is that they are ruthlessly efficient at taking full advantage of any opportunity they get and making it count in the scoreboard. That's why they are such a great team.

What are you talking about?

Watch the footage. Are you telling me in the second incident after the first guy tries to hit him with an inflatable the second guy who jumps to the fence is passionately enquiring after the Hawthorn players wellbeing? They panned back to that guy and security were on him and he was ignoring them and trying playing up.

Lastly what club I support has nothing to do with it. This isn't a crack at Fremantle supporters it is a crack at those incidents.

I have never felt more "over" football in my life. The display by Stevic last night has left me completely numb. The better team on the night won and I applaud Hawthorn for that.

For the first time ever I think I am over it.
I completely agree with all this

I'm obviously a West Coast supporter and don't want to kick the boot in but Freo supporters like Kram81 can vouch that I'm one of those pro WA, **** the Vics, kind of person.

There are four groups of clubs in the AFL.

The NSW clubs + Gold Coast - AFL actively distorts the competition to make them strong. COLA, academies, Barry Hall getting off for hitting someone 80 m away from the ball etc.

The rich Victorian clubs - get all sort of favourable conditions. The AFL knows that most Vics support these clubs and when 'listening to the fans' only cares about the supporters of these clubs. They get whatever draw they want and the AFL wants at least one of these clubs to be a contender every year to maximize crowds.

The poor Victorian clubs - VFL legacy clubs that are only in the AFL because of historical good fortune and are less deserving than East Fremantle, West Perth or Norwood. They don't get too many favours from the AFL - beyond a guaranteed existance and an ability to run on a completely unsustainable financial model and still survive.

The WA/SA clubs - big money makers that only exist to make the AFL money and pay for WAFL and SANFL colts and thus prop up the AFL in terms of talent. The AFL knows that fans will turn up regardless hence us getting dumped with all sorts of bullshit like constant Sunday twilight matches, all the shitty thursday night matches, biased commentary, 'hosting' finals in Melbourne aka Adelaide and West Coast, getting punished for minor offences which other clubs get protected from (see Hawthorn and West Coast recreational drugs), having to play finals in Geelong etc.

Nothing will change unless the WA and SA clubs form a common political block. And that won't happen because both Adelaide and Port Adelaide are run by ******s who are willing to hurt themselves just to spite the other team.

Not as bad as when the Richmond supporter spat on Frawley when he was your coach. Crowd around him did nothing either. All these incidents are bad but why turn it into a WA witch hunt. I hope they are pubically named and shamed as well.
