I like this team, only I would have watts in in place of lienert. I believe he is more flexible, and both our wingers in west Goff and bonner are able to drop back into defence if required, whereas watts can play wing and push forward.

Or Mayes.

I'll nit pick your line up as it's the last one and pretty close.....
I prefer the 3rd tall forward up the ground so would swap Gray to the pocket Marshall to chf and watts on the flank.
For the same reason DBJ to the pocket, jonas to a flank, Clurey seems a better full back also so Howard to chb. Lienert spot i would keep open for a preseason bolter although happy if its him.
A decent side with Dixon being the big out structurally....dont know how to set expectations this year will just wait for it to unfold ...not pessimistic but no real optimism either

Considering the length of the injuries and how far away the season is I think it’s safe to include Hartlett and Gray into that side.

Convenient that R.Gray has developed “knee soreness” just before the start of AFLX isn’t it.

What do you mean by "sad to include" Hammer and Robbie?

With the 6-6-6 I hope we could see a forward set up like we did when Tredrea was in his prime with 6 forwards starting in the Goal square to create time and space for on ballers to break from the Center square. Would love to see 2 Wingmen play one side of the ground, again to provide more time and space at the bounce on one wing and then set up defensivelyat stopage to protect said wing if lose the clearance. And then the 6 Defenders need to be selected on merit as the best 1on1 defenders within our club. This may spell the end for McKenzine and throw Garner into the mix earlier!

Given that Dixon and Wines probably miss the early part of the year I wouldn't be surprised to see any two of Drew, Duursma, Watts or Farrell get a spot in the side. Lienert and Clurey a toss up for mine too.

A stab at an R1 side, incorporating rumours and innuendo re: fit players and coaches favorites.

FB: Byrne-Jones Jonas Burton
HB: Hartlett Howard Houston
Int: Lienert

C: Westhoff Rockliff Motlop
R: Lycett Boak SPP
Int: Drew Duursma

HF: Ebert Marshall Watts
FF: R Gray Ryder Rozee
Int: S Gray

Wines comes in for Drew, Rocky to bench
Dixon comes in for Watts as CHF, Marshall to HHF

My R1 team after the trial game...

In: Matthew Broadbent, Jack Watts, Willem Drew
Out: Ollie Wines (inj), Charlie Dixon (inj), Kane Farrell (omit)

B: Darcy Byrne-Jones ~ Tom Clurey ~ Dougal Howard
HB: Dan Houston ~ Thomas Jonas ~ Matthew Broadbent
C: Hamish Hartlett ~ Travis Boak ~ Ryan Burton
HF: Steven Motlop ~ Jack Watts ~ Robbie Gray
F: Brad Ebert ~ Todd Marshall ~ Justin Westhoff
R: Patrick Ryder ~ Tom Rockliff ~ Sam Powell-Pepper

Int: Scott Lycett ~ Jarrod Lienert ~ Connor Rozee ~ Willem Drew

A few changes from my previous team - Broadbent returns pushing Hartlett to the wing which pushes Westhoff forward which results in Farrell dropping out, Boak returns to the midfield, Ebert moves forward. Watts and Drew replace the injured Wines and Dixon.

Unlucky players - S.Gray, Duursma, Butters, Bonner, Farrell.

My team after analysing The Intra-club and U23. Lienert and Broadbent extremly unlucky but think there’d be too many defenders if they were in.

C: J.Westhoff | T.Boak | R.Burton

I: X.Duursma | R.Bonner | W.Drew | B.Ebert

ROUND 1

Inj - Wines and Dixon

FB : DBJ | Clurey | Jonas
HB : Houston | Howard | Burton
C : Watts | Rockliff | Bonner
R : Lycett | SPP | Drew
HF : Motlop | Marshall | Ebert
FF : Rozee | Ryder | R.Gray

EXT Bench : Hartlett | Westhoff | Boak | Duursma | Liernert | Farrel | Butters |

Ive gone with an extended bench at this point and will wait to trim after the JLT games. Any of the last 4 guys could probably grab that last spot on the bench, probably see it as being one of Farrel/Butters (at this stage) because the are maybe a bit more capable as a small forward that Liernert/Duursma which may be handy depending on how much Mid time Gray is given, presumably a centre square clearance specialist who then goes forward. Either of Liernert/Duursma could possibly push Watts of a wing depending on how those three go in the two JLT games.

Based on what we have seen from Drew during the internal trial and U23 game i can see him possible pushing 1 of Rockliff/Boak out when Wines returns. Big body and better runner then those two and clearly uses the ball well and kicks goals, very handy for a big inside mid. Could be a nice surprise for us this year and form a nice partnership with Wines and SPP.

doing my round 1 team, we need a few fringe players or rookies to step up and have a big year.
only looking at 2 injuries of wines and dixon leaves a big hole. id hate to see a number of injuries to key players!

we need big improvements from a couple of watts, bonner, broadbent, amon, sgray, Frampton and mayes as players with experience and hope 1 or 2 of Butters, Duursma, atley, garner, patmore, hewett come through and push for selection.

the core players need pushing from these guys and cover for injuries and poor form. On paper this team is a big work in progress

around 16 players are locks, but another 6 spots could easily be up for grabs. its a worry for sure

Is Rockliff really a lock - FWIW I think he is awfull slow and just doesn't bustle his way in there enough. I think a team with he and boak in it just doesn't fly, and for me Boak over rocky any day. Rocky to come in if Boak is out of form or needs a rest.

SPP, Wines, Boak, Rockliff, Hartlett, Ebert - Not a lot of speed there if you aksin me.
