Form permitting atley starts in centre next year. He is the future and offers a real point of difference as an inside mid to wines and Rockliff that Ebert does not

I wouldn’t rush Rozee in. We can wait until he is ready but think he will push in at some stage.

Burton on the wing and can move him back when we want to rotate players.

Mayes to play hff/wing.

Ryder should rotate around between ruck ff and bench.

Marshall must play next year. Forwards need time to develop.

Happy for watts to play afl but think with 2 rucks a tall might be sacrificed and he might be the one even if he does play small. Happy to play him if his form demands it

Bonner is the biggest question mark in my 22 for me. Would give him games but also he is the most under pressure in my 22.

Farrell could very easily be in my 22 for Rozee Mayes or bonner. Lienert also could be in, possibly over bonner.

Port Adelaide POWER

HF: Motlop - Marshall - Boak
C: Westhoff - Wines - Burton
HB: Byrne-Jones - Clurey - Hartlett

INT: Spp - Bonner - Mayes - Ryder

Emerg. - Farrell Ebert s.gray lienert

Butters for Amon
Will Hayes be fit by then...not sure when his 12mths for knee reco is up...certainly would not rush

Not 100% certain who my best side is yet, but some things that are vitally important next year:

- use the speed we've now obtained, which is going to mean giving some of the new guys an extended run;
- older players like Ebert, Rockliff, etc should not be guaranteed a first 22 spot in our midfield - they need to earn it; and
- we can't go into every game stacked with too many defenders - we do have a lot of defenders, and that's going to mean someone plays Sanfl even if in good form. Maintain a balanced structure, rather than just going for who's in the best form regardless of position.

I know your thoughts on Rocky, but there's no way Ebert is a better centre square mid.

Weren't you a fan of Duursma?

I don't think Rocky is as slow as he showed last year, I think it was injury and confidence. What I did see, when he's fit, he's the best ball user under pressure, composure is what I've been crying out for.

Fingers crossed he keeps it together when he gets back.

Yes, a fan of the Duursma selection for sure.

We will be in trouble if we need to rely on 18 year olds to revive our hopes.
We're not going to win a flag with this current team. We're definitley in the process of a rebuild and these 18, 19, 20 yo are the next crop that will hopefully get us there.

Projecting forward to 2021 - when Ryder, Boak, Westhoff, Hartlett and Ebert will presumably (?) all be gone...and our recruits from the last 2 drafts will have had 3 to 4 years on our list - I think it would be interesting to speculate how we may line up.

Obviously cant include recruits in next few years, but then again, this exercise can probably give an indication of where our upcoming recruiting priorities lie:

2021:

FF Woodcock, Dixon, R Gray
HF Butters, Marshall, Motlop
C Rozee, Wines, Duursma
HB Byrne-Jones, Howard, Houston
FB Garner, Clurey, Jonas

RUCK
Hayes
Burton
Powell-Pepper

INT Atley, Farrell, Lienert, Lycett

EMERG Bonner, Patmore

It's pretty clear that we need to get another key forward or two developing pronto. Max King would've been amazing if he'd slipped.
