Two differences to mine. I have Watts and Mayes, while you both have Rozee and Houston.

I haven't been keeping any record, but I believe that there is a strong consensus on the core of the team.

My team would have lienert as emergency and have Watts on the bench. Watts to rotate with each winger onto the bench. If we require a defender we swing westy back and Watts goes forward.

Most of the sides named here lack a speedy small forward, imo one of S Gray/Johnson/Woodcock or similar type has to play.

A Best-XXII side does not consider ground, weather, and opponent. It is more for us to show how we evaluate our players, than to assemble an actual team.

Need a speedy, crumbing forward under those talls regardless of opponent/weather/ground

Pretty good.
Without the benefit of pre-season games to judge by I'd probably have the 'proven' Farrell on the ground and Rozee as a depth player. Also hard luck Lienert but really hard to slot him in. In practice I don't know if Sam Gray will be ready R1, was still in a moon-boot prior to the team heading up to the Gold Coast.

I’m thinking positive here and relying on organic growth but I’m hoping Marshall , Sammy PP , Farrell can find another level and Rozee can add some touches of brilliance straight away .

Any team that doesn't have Bonner in it gets a like from me :D

In my opinion most of the teams named are a little top heavy particularly up forward, there has to be at least one player with better than average pace to get to the drop of the ball when it hits the carpet, or oppo defences will run it out of our forward 50 ad infinitum, allowing them to apply more pressure further upfield, where we also lack speed.

It's too early for me to name a line up yet, but for one of the small forward roles I will be watching the preseason form of the likes of Farrell and Woodcock, particularly the latter, who may be part of the missing puzzle.

It’s interesting you mention Woodcock - I never, ever dream about football, but the other day I had a dream that Woodcock was playing deep forward in the GF and kicked 5 goals. Rozee was playing half forward and went and gave him a big hug every time.

The commentators were all like “Where did this guy come from?”

I liked it because it meant that Robbie was playing back in the middle.

Probably not quite to guidelines because it's more of a team I'd like to start round one as it gives a chance for young players to get some experience while still being a competitive line-up, although I think I could come up with a stronger 22 if it was a must win scenario.

B - DBJ, Howard, Houston
HB - Rozee, Jonas, Burton
C - Hartlett, Wines, Motlop
HF - Pudney, Marshall, Boak
F - Trengove, Dixon, Farrell
R - Ryder, R. Gray, Rockliff
Int - Ebert, Lycett, SPP, Westhoff

I think this is the first year in a long time where there were so many players who were unlucky not to be in the team (especially as I'm not averse to getting experience into some of the younger players this season; provided we balance it out with veterans across the park) but hopefully they'll get a run should injuries hit rather than the same 2 or 3 who have been put in lately regardless of the position that needs filling.

I'm still of the opinion that Robbie is at his most valuable in the middle. His 'rests' up forward need to be a lot shorter this year.

P.s. That is one beautiful sounding dream.

He's pretty damn damaging in a forward pocket, if we need him in the midfield next year we're in trouble. Time for Wines and SPP to carry the midfield and Rockliff (based on his form for us) or Atley to step up and be a force in the engine room.
