I think Buttsy is in best 22. Must remember that he played less than half a season in 2018 and did not complete a full pre season for 2019. His early form was electric until he got tired around half way through the year. He will be better for longer next season.

I think putting together a best 18 for Round 1 2020 is fairly easy, assuming that whatever qualms Bigfooty may have about their performance that both co-captains will be part of it, and assuming that the club comes to its senses about Howard's position.

B: T. Jonas, T. Clurey, H. Hartlett
HB: R. Burton, D. Howard, D. Byrne-Jones
C: X. Duursma, O. Wines, K. Amon
HF: B. Ebert, T. Marshall, C. Rozee
F: R. Gray, C. Dixon, P. Ladhams
R: S. Lycett, T. Boak, D. Houston

The bench, on the other hand, has plenty of spots up for grabs. SPP, Rockliff, Westhoff, Bonner, Butters, Farrell, Motlop, Watts, Drew, and our pick 10 (hopefully Dylan Stephens) all fighting for four spots. And you never know if somebody is going to come from the clouds like DBJ in '16, Houston in '17 and Amon in '19 to put their hand up for a spot.

The interesting thing is that you could quite conceivably see us lining up for Round 1 without any of our high profile 2017 recruits in the 22. Based on comparisons of players who play a similar role, Rockliff probably has to beat SPP and Drew, Motlop probably has to beat Farrell and Butters, Watts probably has to beat Westhoff. On recent form, none of those are guarantees.

This is my Round 1 22 based on the assumption that the club wants Howard playing Forward.

FB: D.Byrne-Jones | T.Clurey | T.Jonas
HB: R.Burton | J.Watts | H.Hartlett
C: K.Amon | T.Boak | X.Duursma
R: S.Lycett | D.Houston | O.Wines
HF: C.Rozee | D.Howard | Z.Butters
FF: T.Marshall | C.Dixon | R.Gray
I: R.Bonner | J.Westhoff | S.Powell-Pepper | K.Farrell
E: W.Drew | J.Garner | B.Ebert | P.Ladhams
While this is what I would want I reckon the club would bring Rockliff in instead of SPP, Ebert for Farrell and maybe even Motlop for Howard or Marshall (Hinkley Small Love)

i could see Hinkley thinking something like:

- Dixon main forward
- Gray and Rozee main smalls + Fantasia (let's just bend over and prepare for it)
- Marshall, Westhoff, Ebert, Motlop, Butters the rest of the main forward squad

F: Rozee - Dixon - Gray
HF: Fantasia - Westhoff - Butters

realistically thinking, we don't play with any form of traditional forward setup and as a result i could see him consider Hoff the second key forward. we could basically have Dixon and smalls (with Marshall playing smaller as the club have said he should) with Hoff floating around being Hoff.

- Lycett, Boak, Rockliff main middle men
- Houston, Amon, Durrsma trusted young men
- Drew not so trusted young man
- Wines, Powell-Pepper.. if fit and on the right path, best 18, but questions of team balance + club getting rid

R: Lycett - Boak - Rockliff
C: Amon - Houston - Durrsma

- Clurey, Jonas main defenders
- Burton, Byrne-Jones, Hartlett main smalls
- Howard if we don't get rid of him
- McKenzie, Watts, Lienert

HB: Burton - Howard - Byrne-Jones
B: Jonas - Clurey - Hartlett

------------------------------------------------------------------------

F: Rozee - Dixon - Gray
HF: Fantasia - Hoff - Butters
R: Lycett - Boak - Rockliff
C: Amon - Houston - Durrsma
HB: Burton - Howard - Byrne-Jones
B: Jonas - Clurey - Hartlett

INT: Ebert / Wines / Marshall / Ladhams

I'd play Watts, but not sure for who. Perhaps that's why the Club isn't too fussed about hanging on to Howard?

Alright I'm gonna have a crack at this. I actually still think we look ok for next year with plenty of room for young players to star. As long as we keep this core group together, play the young guys, and don't make finals (so we can get a better coach), we could actually feel pretty bloody positive heading in to 2021.

F: R Gray, Charlie, Ladhams
HF: Marshall, Butters, Rozee
C: Amon, X, Wines
HB: Burton, Watts, DBJ
B: Clurey, TJ, Hammer
R: Slyce, Boak, Houston
INT: Ebo, Garner, Pep, Rocky, Drew

Can't decide who to drop out of Pep, Rocky & Drew so Ill leave it a 23 list for now.

Most under pressure: Jonas, Westhoff, Watts, Ebert, Ladhams, Butters
Most likely to force their way in: Rocky, Drew, Lienert, Bonner, HAYES, Motlop.

What's apparent is our lack of key talls and depth which is the reason for playing Westhoff and Watts.
Garner gets the gig over Bonner because he's a better 1v1 and it frees up DBJ for midfield minutes.
If Hayes has a ripper preseason I can see him starting iver Ladhams.

B: Jonas (29) • Clurey (26) • Hartlett (30)
HB: DBJ (25) • Westhoff (33) • Burton (23)
C: Duursma (20) • Wines (25) • Amon (25)
HF: Rozee (20) • Dixon (30) • Butters (20)
F: R Gray (32) • Marshall (21) • Ebert (30)
R: Lycett (27) • Rockliff (30) • Boak (32)
I: Ladhams (22), Houston (23), SPP (22), Pick 12 (18)

Average Age: 25.6 (give or take specific months)

And that’s assuming Desperate Ken doesn’t reach into the kitbag for Motlop (29), Watts (29), McKenzie (28), S Gray (28) and Sutcliffe (28), which we totally know he will if the sugar hit of taking the Old Folks’ Home Tarago to the promised land of an away Elimination Final is on the cards at Round 11.

A weird line up but I tried to consider
- Dixon and Marshall aren’t full forwards. With Howard and Frampton gone, I can only assume Hayes is ready
- if Hayes comes in we may bring in a small to replace a ruck. Perhap Drew or Atley May get a run.
- Grundy May be ahead of jonas and McKenzie
- watts and Motlop are too soft for AFL
- only Houston in our squad can take a mark and kick straight
- we are too slow with boak, wines, rockcliff and gray so someone needed to sit out

In short we are fkd
