This what I’m thinking - would like to see Marshall play S Grays high half forward role, as part of his development. but... also not sold on Ladhams as a key forward, but want the kid to get games..

Think Rozee, Burton, Houston should be in the midfield Rotations

F: Butters - Ladhams - Gray
HF: Marshall - Dixon - Bergman
C: Amon - Wines (c) - Duursma
HB: Hartlett - Watts - Bonner
B: Jonas - Clurey - Byrne Jones

R: Lycett (vc) - Houston - Boak

INT: Burton (mid Outside) - Powell-Pepper (mid) - Rozee (mid) - Westhoff (def)

FF Rgray - Dixon - Rozee
HF ?? - Marshall - ??
C Duursma - Wines - Amon
HB Burton - Jonas - Houston
FB DBJ - Clurey - ??
Ruck Lycett - Boak - ??
Int Butters ?? ?? ??

i see seven spots up for grabs come round 1

2 forwards - Motlop, Bergman, Georgidas, Farrell, Ebert, Cox, Williams
2 Backs - Watts, Westhoff, Bonner, Garner, Lienert, Hartlett
2 Mids - Spp, Rockliff, Mead, Drew, Ebert
1 Ruck - Ladhams, Hayes or utility in Westhoff

The Power are more than happy to give youngsters a chance, as they did with Connor Rozee, Zak Butters and Xavier Duursma last season. Forward Miles Bergman is an exciting prospect and should be in line for a round one debut. It was a tough call between veteran Justin Westhoff and Todd Marshall, but Westhoff's experience gave him the edge. Jack Watts will go close to unseating Joel Garner for a defensive role, while Willem Drew will be coming back from foot surgery, which opens the door for Sam Powell-Pepper to start in the side. The Power played two rucks a lot last season, but Scott Lycett plays his best as the lead ruckman and deserves first crack. – Lee Gaskin

B: Ryan Burton, Tom Clurey, Darcy Byrne-Jones
HB: Hamish Hartlett, Tom Jonas, Riley Bonner
C: Karl Amon, Tom Rockliff, Xavier Duursma
HF: Robbie Gray, Justin Westhoff, Connor Rozee
F: Zak Butters, Charlie Dixon, Brad Ebert
Foll: Scott Lycett, Travis Boak, Ollie Wines
I/C: Miles Bergman, Joel Garner, Dan Houston, Sam Powell-Pepper

DEPTH
Defenders:
Martin Frederick, Riley Grundy, Jarrod Lienert, Trent McKenzie, Jake Pasini, Jack Watts
Midfielders: Joe Atley, Trent Burgoyne, Willem Drew, Sam Mayes, Jackson Mead, Steven Motlop, Cam Sutcliffe
Forwards: Wylie Buzza, Tobin Cox, Kane Farrell, Mitch Georgiades, Todd Marshall, Jake Patmore, Dylan Williams, Boyd Woodcock
Rucks: Sam Hayes, Peter Ladhams

Shouldn't and won't happen, but I'd love to watch it:

B: Ryan Burton, Tom Clurey, Darcy Byrne-Jones
HB: Hamish Hartlett, Tom Jonas (c), Jake Pasini
C: Karl Amon, Dan Houston, Xavier Duursma
HF: Robbie Gray, Todd Marshall, Connor Rozee
F: Dylan Williams, Charlie Dixon, Miles Bergman
Foll: Scott Lycett, Travis Boak, Ollie Wines
I/C: Zak Butters, Joel Garner, Jackson Mead, Sam Powell-Pepper

Couldn't quite find a way to get Wylie Buzza or Mitch Georgiades in there yet...

Warning - hypothetical only
Look at the side below, consider them fit and firing.
Would they be premiership contenders? Hell yeh.

F: Ladhams - Dixon - Wingard
HF: Ebert - Marshall - Rozee
C: Polec - Boak - Duursma
HB: Burton - Watts - Byrne-Jones
B: Jonas - Howard - Clurey

R: Lycett - Houston - Gray
INT: Wines - Butters - Hartlett - Amon

Emg: Powell-Pepper - Motlop - Garner - Rockliff - Westhoff - Drew - Hayes

My point is that we are close.

We need a few of the draftees or three of those Emergencies to really stand up.
And we need the confidence and the right attitude from all who surround them.

-----------------------------------------

F: Ladhams - Dixon - Motlop
HF: Ebert - Marshall - Rozee
C: Amon - Boak - Duursma
HB: Burton - Westhoff - Watts
B: Jonas - Clurey - Byrne-Jones

R: Lycett - Houston - Gray
INT: Wines - Butters - Hartlett - SPP

Emg: Garner - Rockliff - Drew - Hayes - Bergman - Mead

We are two years away from being in the 8

In terms of window that’s three or four at least

We must be developing some decent depth because Marshall absolutely has to be best 22, and I feel that Motlop and watts are probably thereabouts too. But I struggle to find any guys to take out of the posted side here that they replace.

Marshall pretty clearly in over Bergman, Butters, Ebo

Watts over Boner

Mots probably does need to start in the 2s

We need Houston, Rozee, Gray, Boak and even DBJ to get solid midfield time. Hopefully SPP can find greater consistency. But having both Wines and Rockliff is a major issue for me. Drew adding to that list. Can't hold both (or 3) in same team imo.

Also Watts and Westhoff. One or other. Not both.

Ebert fit will be good for our rotations and fwd line.

Make or break year for Marshall

My tip is Marshall will have a solid career at Port but replace Westhoff on the wing or be our next CHB or tall in defence. He is too nice for a key position player in the forward line.

If you look at a player like Gunston from Hawthorn, you don't have to be a mongrel. He has so many smarts but does need to use his weapons and improve his physical presence even if is just through improved timing, balance and positioning.....

agree

but would you describe him as a KPF?

I think drew has the attributes to take over from ebert in the forward line/mid rotation. Hes good over his head, nice kick and brings defensive pressure through his sheer love of tackling

Butters Dixon Gray
Ebert Marshall Rozee
Amon Wines Duursma
Burton Clurey Hartlett
Houston Jonas Byrne-Jones

Lycett Boak Rockliff

2R IM F D

2R- A preseason battle between Ladhams and Hayes
F- Motlop, Farrell, Bergman, Williams, Cox or Woodcock
IM- Drew, Powell-Pepper, Alley or Mead
D- Watts, Westhoff, Bonner, Garner, McKenzie

So the First 18 is settled- you don't put games into Marshall, Rozee, Butters and Duursma in 2019 only to pull back in 2020.

It's the last 4 spots that are up for grabs. In bold are the incumbents at this point but those spots are ripe for the taking by someone who shows something in pre-season. If we play an U23 game again this year, it will be a fair dinkum fight for those last 4 spots.

Thats what Ryder, Howard, Broadbent, and Sammy Gray also thought!

Marshall absolutely has to be best 22
Hmmm....I like Marshall but he absolutely needs to prove he should be best 22....he is a huge piece of the puzzle this year, if he can stand up and take a few grabs, take and beat the 2nd best defender each week it goes a long way to us returning to finals......if not we're a tall forward short, Dixon gets swamped and we go no where.....no pressure Todd.....show me....
