The Hodson's were shot dead just months before Terence Hodson was due to give evidence in a criminal trial against former Victorian drug squad detective Paul Dale. Melbourne underworld figure Carl Williams claimed Mr Dale paid him $150,000 to have Mr Hodson killed and that he hired Rodney Collins to do the job. Collins died in jail May, 2018 where he was serving a life sentence for the 1987 murders of Ramon and Dorothy Abbey.
Mr Dale and Collins were charged with the Hodson murders in 2009, but the case collapsed after Williams was murdered in prison in 2010 and Nicola Gobbo who was to give evidence against Dale, withdrew.
