My english mate used to say swim lengths not laps. Did 20 lengths today. We took the piss out of him a lot for that. Then i thought about it and realised technically he is right. Still sounds ridiculous though .

You swim the length of the pool. Makes sense

I hate the gym and hate running just for the sake of it. Used to gym and shit back in the day but cant stand the place and all the f**kwits staring at themselves. Still have a better rig than most that live there, drinking their wankshakes and getting their buzz cuts and tough stickers and taking their tragic selfies at every spare moment.

Only play sport now. Tennis 5 times a week and footy in winter (matches only no training anymore).

Not doing much these days. I had an accident less than a year ago and it's limited me a bit. Mainly just big walks with the dog, running around with my toddler and playing golf. I used to play basketball, tennis and swim laps a little. I probably should start swimming again but it seems to take up a lot of time.
What position did you play CA? I used to play basketball back in high school and would love to get back into it, but I only like playing comp basketball and not the recreational one where you compete against wannabe NBA stars.

Might take up lawn bowls as a recreational sport instead.

Forward. I had a good rebound on me and also used to love drifting to the side and sinking 3's from the corner.

Gym is a means to an end for me. I go there to improve for a sport - to get stronger in the hips to break tackles, to jump higher for a contest, not just to lift weights or run on a treadmill.

Nothing against protein shakes (very convenient and cost effective for protein per dollar) and buzzcuts (low maintenance wig).

Maybe you guys can help me here.

I haven't been running as much in the past couple of months since footy has finished for me, however I still consider myself quite a young and fit individual. I'm 21 years old and I'm currently completing a Sports Science degree which allows me to be very active e.g. gym, swimming etc. However, now days whenever I go out for a run a sudden, painful and stabby itch encompasses my entire leg; beginning at my thighs and then rapidly working its way down. This generally happens around the 1.5 k mark and prevents me from running from that point on as the pain is unbearable. This issue has been kind of on and off for the past 5 years or so, however it happens every time I try and go for a long distance run now and it's preventing me from reaching the fitness levels I want.

Can anyone relate to this? Treatment required?

Go to a doctor?

I'm after some inspiration, about 4 weeks ago I did a ligament in my leg, has been really painful after walking not very far and twisting or even just walking after I have been sitting for a while is still painful it is on the mend but I don't want to go backwards.

Needless to say the exercise has gone out the window, I want to know what I can do with an injury like this to get fit, I am heading to the gym today and I know i can do weights but treadmill, rower, bike etc is out.

Ideas welcome?

Look up a phone app called Couch To 5 Km (C25K).

30 minutes a day, 3 days a week, for 8 weeks.

It's a great tool to go from doing nothing to be able to do 5k in an attainable amount of time. Starts off super easy and doesn't ask the world.
Just checked this out. Looks good.
I am afraid of running however due to joint issues. Plus im quite slim at 60kg/170cm tall and dont really want to lose weight!

Eat more and you won't lose weight.

If you follow the couch to 5k guide it starts very slow, so your joints should be ok. You could always stretch it out longer.

I downloaded it 4 weeks ago and am up to week 4 session 2. So far so good re joints and overall feeling of the body.

Week 4 is up a notch from week 3 so i may repeat week 4 a few times.
