Finn Maginniss is firming as a top 20 pick and anyone with Foxtel can watch him in the first U18s state match Vic Metro v Country this Saturday at 10.30am.

The son of two-time Hawthorn premiership player Scott Maginness has enjoyed a strong start to this season to push him into top-20 contention. Maginness is a tall midfielder who uses his size to bust through traffic, and he's one of the most improved players in the pool. He booted four goals in a quarter at school level last week for Scotch College in a dominant display and he has the athleticism to be a modern midfielder.

Another player to watch is Dylan Williams, a local boy from Surrey Park who trained with us over summer and is predicted to go around pick 10 which is around where we might be in the draft.

185cm/79kg
Vic Metro/Oakleigh Chargers
Forward

Williams showed his talent last year for the Chargers when he booted 14 goals in their finals series. When in attack Williams is a threat in the air, where his marking is a real strength, and also on the ground, given his savviness near goal and sharp left foot. He has also been used across half-back, where his reading of the play comes to the fore, and at times in bursts through the midfield. If Williams is having a quiet day he will often find a way to impact a game, and he has genuine X-factor and ability.

Try not to watch Noah Anderson. It will make you cry.

Cal Twomey and Collingwood's list manager have both said that Finn is tracking along beautifully and is looking like more of a player every game he plays. Great news, but let's hope he doesn't become so good that we have to cough up a higher pick for him!

Everyone says Anderson is going pick 1. Topiary: I cannot see any way Noah Anderson comes to the Hawks.

This draft seems shallow... it is not a draft to trade UP into.... with a 191cm backman as the only KPP in the top group...and a lot of midfielder in between.

Finn McGinness, welcome to Hawthorn.

Noah Anderson: sorry mate you are off to Carlton : Edit-> Adelaide

He should have been off to Carlton, but it'll end up being Gold Coast or Adelaide.

Given our position, doubt we will lose too much in a bid pick.
Tom Graham had 13 touches, 4 marks and 2 tackles to go with the solitary goal he kicked in a big loss for Oakleigh against Dandy Stingrays today.

Finn Maguinness didn’t play for Sandringham.
Tom Graham? Son of mark?

The only way Anderson gets to Hawthorn is if Gold Coast draft him

Finn Maginess played well in a losing team today. Played about 80% gametime despite starting on the bench. Played predominantly in the middle (starting there at each center bounce whilst on the ground).

A very good sized midfielder (187cm) who played more inside than outside. Laid multiple tackles (about 4-5) and was rewarded a free kick for one of them (at center half back). Without looking at any stats, he got about 15 possessions, equal in ratio with kicks to handball. Kicked an easy goal after an over-the-top handball in the goalsquare.

Not super quick but quick enough to get to opposition players to tackle. May have taken a couple of simple marks. Was clean with his disposal, and sometimes put his arms up, shimmied and shrugged off a couple of tackles before disposing the ball....as you'd expect with an inside mid. Usually made the right decisions.

Belongs with the under 18 stars. Definitely fits in with the likes of Rowell and Anderson.....but not on their level in terms of possessions or ground covered. FWIW Rowell will be pick #1 and Anderson #2 IMO. I think second round might be where Maginess ends up, but certainly not first round at this stage.

More astute observers might have seen things differently (or even official stats may be different), but that's my summation on our next father-son pick. Happy to hear other people's opinions and get different views.

with the way he is going i believe someone will bid on him in round 1, to make us pay, but also because on some peoples boards he might be rising.

FWIW Maguiness had 90 'ranking' points. Pepper had 42.

Pepper and Downie didnt have great games, but they will be better for the run, Peppers disposal was wayward, but he has a great strong frame for footy and when he is on can be very handy, also Downie is a good underager and the fact he got picked ahead of some other fancied players is a good sign that people rate him highly.
