This is the problem with 22 people making a decision that affects hundreds of millions. Put your personal interests ahead of theirs and prepare to feel the wrath should you make the wrong call.

If I was the FA or US Soccer I'd definitely be considering breaking away from FIFA.

The fall out won't happen immediately, but I wouldn't be surprised if Qatar 2022 has a very different look to it in terms of competing nations.

Hmm lets see - UK - 60 million people, main sport soccer - big loss.
U.S. - 300 million people - soccer 5th or 6th sport at best - no interest - had previous world cup (made no difference).
Australia - 22 million - soccer 4th biggest sport. At best.

Yep, that means FIFA will be left with only:

Rest of europe - 250+ million people - all with Soccer as their main sport.
South America - 300 Million people - all with soccer as No 1 sport.
Mexico in North America - 120 million.
Most of africa. All of Asia - all those new federations (ex-Russia).

I think if the USA, UK and Aus boycott, Fifa's reaction might be 'And who are you, exactly?'.

Sure, don't play the game because you don't like how it's played. But don't expect to get much support for your dummy spit.

& if the Premier League clubs start threatening to not release their players for FIFA tournaments?

Yes, we and the US are a pimple on FIFA's rear, England however very much is not.

By way of the Premier League, England will always have a loud enough voice if they choose to use it.

if something is plain wrong, you dont appease it in the hope you are the next favourite.

As I read in the history books those countries were of a few to stand up to something else which was wrong about 65 years ago..

These countries can be accuesd of bad sportsmanship but fifa itself is demonstrably rotten from the inside out.

it was a mistake to run two bids together - they have seriously annoyed several bids (who are gobsmacked by the "bid criteria" being worth jack)
and the fact that both winning bids are bad has exacerbated this.

Swap spain for russia or US for qatar and you could give FIFA the benefit of the doubt. over the other one

As it is they are so arrogant they dont even think one of the winning bids should be uncontroversial

Wont happen. Players have written into their contracts that they are to be released for World Cups, Euros etc (friendlies are always a fight, but the actual tournaments are fine). If the FA decide to leave that out of the contract, the good players will just shrug and go to Spain - or Italy - or France - or Germany.

haha, well one can dream ;)

Just like wearing the Big V won out over the almight dollar hey? Oh wait... ;) & we're talking a pittance in comparison to what gets offered by English clubs.

Money talks, and the players will not leave the premier league en-masse over the long term if the FA refuses to allow them to compete in internationals.

Playing for your country is great, fortune, fame and women are another story altogether.

End of the day, Barcelona, Real, Juventus and the Milan outfits can't buy EVERY international player mate...
