Season 40, Round 2: Baghdad Bombers (15.19.109) d Fighting Furies (10.12.72), at Abdu Prison.

The Furies' start to Season 40, which may be generously described as "indifferent", continued with the away trip to the sunny and sandy climes of Baghdad, where the only thing more lethal than the cocktails are the barmaids serving them.

In a match which saw the Bombers maintain a comfortable lead until the final siren, there was at least some semblance of intelligence in the Furies' coaching box, with the league's number 1 ruck, TRUMAN#1 kept in position, leading to 12 hit-outs, 22 disposals, and a tackle in a very strong performance (by contrast, Baghdad could only muster 5 hit-outs. Even though they won the match, we're taking every victory we can get at this stage). NaturalDisaster was strong in the midfield with 23 disposals, 2 tackles, and 2 goals 2 behinds, with Greenery (17 disposals, 5 tackles, 1 goal) providing some two-way running and Pickitt (19 disposals, 3 marks, 1 tackle, 1 goal) also working into the game, though overall the Furies' new look midfield for Season 40 is yet to quite gel together. The outside runners in Orange crush (16 disposals, 2 marks, 1 tackle, 1 goal 1 behind) and crazywildhorse (12 disposals, 5 marks, 2 tackles, 1 behind) struggled for their usual impact due to Baghdad getting on top around the stoppages. From the bench, Rioli8217 (8 disposals, 1 mark) and rfctigerarmy (6 disposals, 1 tackle) provided fresh legs, though were unable to have any meaningful impact.

Up forward, spearhead ShaunDuggan had a bit of a comedown from the previous week's performance, recording the two behinds (from 2 kicks, 1 handpass, and 1 tackle), though he wasn't exactly given a lot of forward 50 entries to feast upon. SplintWhisky worked hard from limited opportunities, having 1 goals 3 behinds from 4 kicks, though Grockadoc found it difficult to get involved, having just the solitary handball for the game. On the half forward line, Supersuns (7 disposals, 2 marks) and Sab22 (9 disposals, 2 marks, 1 tackle, and 1 behind) were down on their usual high standards, though Frothies Mcveigh had his best game in quite some time, finding the goals 4 times (also with 2 behinds from 15 disposals and 6 marks) in an exceptional performance on the half-forward flank.

Down back, Toump Ass had his hands full given the amount of times the qooty was kicked in his direction, though he never dropped his bundle and was good for 10 disposals and 4 marks as he intercepted what he could and counter-attacked at every opportunity. Bastyy (11 disposals, 3 marks, 1 tackle) and Edmund hunt (11 disposals, 2 marks) kept themselves busy, and at CHB, Chronz had 15 disposals and 3 marks to limit the damage as best he could. omgfridge (12 disposals, 7 marks, and a tackle) was important in the link up play whenever the Furies transitioned from D50 to the midfield, though in what has become one of the league's bigger tropes, James Colorado continued to stat pad with no real impact, recording 16 attempts at a disposal, 4 of the softest marks ever seen, and 1 clumsy grope that was recorded as a tackle.

Season 40, Round 3: Gumbies FFC (19.11.125) d Fighting Furies (15.8.98), at rfctigerarmy's Hippodrome.

The Furies' Season 39 GF hangover continued with a third straight loss, with the Gumbies prevailing in front of a Furies' crowd verging on riotous. The odd experiment by the coaching staff in taking TRUMAN#1 out of the ruck again proved costly, with last season's dominant ruckman in terms of hit-outs having only 2 of them this match, though he did work hard around the ground to finish 11 disposals and 3 marks. Rioli8217 was given a run in the ruck and did not disappoint though, equalling his opposing number on the Gumbies with 11 hit-outs, and also having 22 disposals and 3 tackles. In the midfield, NaturalDisaster (22 disposals, 1 mark, 8 tackles, 1 behind) was busy, putting in a superb example of two-way running, though Greenery (14 disposals, 1 mark, 2 tackles) struggled with the defensive efforts of the Gumbies. Pickitt (18 disposals, 2 marks) lacked his usual influence, though @rfctigeramry (18 disposals, 3 marks, 2 tackles) added a lot of run from the bench whenever called upon. On the outside, crazywildhorse (20 disposals, 3 marks) was busy and Orange crush (31 disposals, 4 marks, 1 tackle, 1 goal, 1 behind) was the Furies' best on ground.

Up forward, ShaunDuggan's 5 goals (7 kicks, 1 tackle, 2 behinds) saw a return to his Round 1 form, keeping him in the hunt to add a second Fred Medal to sit alongside his Season 38 award. SplintWhisky (11 disposals, 2 marks, 2 goals 2 behinds) showed a lot of creativity crumbing the packs, though Grockadoc's return of 1 kick 1 behind does not reflect the role of selflessly creating space via running patterns to lead his defender away from his forward line compatriots. Supersuns channeled prime Wayne Carey with his 5 goals 1 behind from CHF (14 disposals, 5 marks), and Frothies Mcveigh (17 disposals, 4 marks, 2 tackles, 1 goal) was very busy at high half-forward. Sab22 (16 disposals, 3 tackles, 1 goal) played a superb match linking up between the midfield and the forward line, and his creativity caused the Gumbies' coaching staff some headaches of their own.

In defence, Toump Ass (13 disposals, 8 marks) was solid, keeping his opponent to only 3 goals, with Edmund hunt providing solid coverage with his own 8 disposals, 2 marks, 2 tackle game. In the other pocket, Bastyy played an aggressive counter-attacking game with 19 disposals and 7 marks. Chronz' 13 disposals, 4 marks, and 1 tackle at CHB also don't reflect keeping the Gumbies' CHF to only 1 behind, and omgfridge's 16 disposals and 8 marks were the result of consistently setting up the play throughout the match. On the other flank, James Colorado was finally exposed for the utter fraud he is, having a 3 handball, 2 mark, 1 tackle game, for which 99% of the responsibility for the loss can be assigned.

Season 40, Round 4: Fighting Furies (22.13.145) d Coney Island Warriors (19.16.130), at rfctigerarmy's Hippodrome.

Aaaaaand we're on the board! Via a curious fixture quirk that saw two home games scheduled in a row, and in front of a crowd that had brought their own cutlery in anticipation of eating the home team alive in the event of another loss, the Furies v Warrios recent run of tight contests added another classic, made all the more sweeter for being a victory. Someone must have shown the Furies' coaching staff the Season 39 ruck statistics, as TRUMAN#1 was kept in the position the whole match, turning in a best on ground performance with 22 hit-outs, 29 disposals, 1 tackle, and 2 goals 2 behinds. Smarting from having their colours lowered the previous week, both Greenery (32 disposals, 6 tackles, 1 behind) and Pickitt (26 disposals, 7 marks, 3 tackles, 1 goal 2 behinds) showed why there was so much effort expended to bring them back to the Hippodrome. It was NaturalDisaster's turn to sacrifice his own game for the sake of the team, though even his defensive mid effort yielded 14 disposals, 2 marks, 1 tackle, and a goal. Off the bench, rfctigerarmy (17 disposals, 5 marks, 1 tackle) continued to have influence wherever he was utilised, and Rioli8217 (18 disposals 2 marks) provided a difficult match-up whenever injected into the contest. On the outside, crazywildhorse (20 disposals, 5 marks, 1 tackle, 1 goal) and Orange crush (28 disposals, 6 marks, 2 tackles) continued their impressive starts to the season, and provided an invaluable link between all three areas of the ground.

Up forward, ShaunDuggan's good form continued with 6 goals 2 behinds from 8 kicks, though SplintWhisky (5 goals 1 behind from 6 kicks, 1 handball, 2 tackles) had another week of small forward magic. Grockadoc had another quiet week, though was good for a goal from his solitary kick. Supersuns' continued his great form at CHF though his radar was off, only registering 1 goal 4 behinds from 17 disposals and 9 marks. Sab22's influence was limited (5 disposals, 5 marks, 1 tackle, 1 goal), though he did play a key role in creating space, which Frothies Mcveigh (26 disposals, 6 marks, 1 tackle, 1 goal) was able to fill to the team's advantage.

In defence, Toump Ass may have given up 5 goals, though given how high-scoring the affair was this actually constituted a one-on-one victory, particularly given he was good for 17 disposals and 5 marks himself. Edmund hunt (11 disposals) played an invaluable lockdown role, that given the final margin, may have been the difference between a close victory to kick-start the season and a heart-breaking loss to finish it when it has barely begun. Bastyy continued to be an attacking force from the other pocket, with 24 disposals, 7 marks, 1 goal 1 behind, and at CHB, Chronz' 20 disposals, 3 tackles, and a goal was an immense performance. On the flanks, omgfridge (12 disposals, 2 marks, 2 tackles) was busy all day, and James Colorado's (7 disposals, 2 marks, 1 tackle) "form slump" is more of an accurate scoreline for the player he really is.

Season 40, Round 5: Fighting Furies (18.10.118) d Las Vegas Bears (15.13.103), at the Stadium in the Sky.

In a glimpse of the form that characterised the Furies' Season 39 Grand Final run and has been only sporadic since, the Furies went TWO IN A ROW in Sin City, defeating one of the few teams to own multiple victories against them in S39. While TRUMAN#1 was shaded in the ruck by his opposite number, he still put in a solid shift of 11 hit-outs, 17 disposals, 2 tackles, and a goal. The Furies midfield stepped up against the Bears' own engine room, with Pickitt (25 disposals, 11 marks, 2 tackles, and a goal) having a superb game, and Greenery (22 disposals, 5 tackles, and a goal), and NaturalDisaster (22 disposals, 6 tackles) both being very busy. On the outside, Orange crush did not stop all match, his 27 disposals, 6 marks, 3 tackles, and 2 goals 1 behind representing an exceptional game, and on the other wing crazywildhorse (24 disposals, 5 marks, 1 tackle, 1 goal) also providing a link between all lines. Sab22, after insisting on giving up his starting position in order to find form, responded in the best possible way with 22 disposals, 2 marks, 1 tackle, and 5 hit-outs giving a chop out in the ruck; his game was only let down by inaccuracy, registering just the 2 behinds. Rioli8217 also injected some run when used to pinch hit, recording 7 disposals and 5 marks, all at critical junctures.

ShaunDuggan's dream of a second Fred in three seasons remained well and truly viable with 6 goals 2 behinds from his 8 kicks and 1 tackle, with SplintWhisky's vein of good form continuing with 2 goals 1 behind from his 3 kicks and a mark, though Grockadoc's quiet run continued with just the 1 kick, though fortunately it split the middle. After a huge couple of weeks, Supersuns came back to Earth with a performance that, while hardly embarrassing, was merely passable by his lofty standards, registering 16 disposals, 2 marks, 1 tackle, 1 goal 1 behind. On the flanks, rfctigerarmy had 15 disposals, 6 marks as a mobile linkman, and 2 goals 1 behind as a scoreboard threat, with Frothies Mcveigh being prolific with 23 disposals, 6 marks, 1 tackle, and inaccuracy the only blemish on his game (2 behinds).

Toump Ass was a little quieter than he would have liked (8 disposals, 2 marks), though he did well to limit the damage of his opponent to only 5 goals in a high scoring affair. Bastyy's run of form experienced a bump (1 kick, 2 marks, a Free Against explaining the disparity), though Edmund hunt (18 disposals, 8 marks, 1 tackle) provided counter-attack from the last line. Chronz (20 disposals, 6 marks, 4 tackles) was a rock at CHB as the Bears continually attacked, ably supported by omgfridge (19 disposals, 3 marks, 1 tackle) on the flank. The poor run of James Colorado (5 disposals, 1 mark, 1 tackle) continued, rendering his position in the team purely meme-worthy by now.

Season 40, Round 6: East Side Hawks (15.11.101) d Fighting Furies (11.6.72) at rfctigerarmy's Hippodrome.

Fresh off the traction gained by two wins in a row, the Fighting Furies ran into another team that handed them losses in multiple matches in Season 39, including the most heart-breaking one of all. And the Furies fell to the Hawks. Again (sob). TRUMAN#1's Season 39 form continues to elude him, with a performance of 9 hit-outs, 28 disposals, and 6 tackles being one that, while exceptional for most, falls just short of the standards he sets himself. NaturalDisaster put in one of the best performances likely to be seen this season, having 35 disposals, 7 tackles, and a goal in a clear BOG display, made all the more impressive by it coming in a solid loss. Greenery remained effective with 22 disposals, 4 marks, 1 goal 1 behind, though Pickitt's performance was a little flatter compared to the previous weeks, having 21 disposals and 4 marks in the centre. On the outside, Orange crush's run of form continued, with 35 disposals, 3 marks, and a tackle, to further his claims to being the premier wingman in the league, though crazywildhorse's performance of 19 disposals, 3 marks, and 3 tackles lacked his usual offensive prowess (though the defensive intent was clear). Off the bench, Rioli8217 (13 disposals, 4 marks, 1 tackle) had an impact wherever he was played, though rfctigerarmy (3 disposals) struggled to work himself into the game.

ShaunDuggan continued with his Season 38 form at full-forward (4 goals from 4 kicks), and after a few quiet weeks, Grockadoc had a little more impact with accuracy his best friend (2 goals from 2 kicks, 1 mark). SplintWhisky, due for a quieter game, unfortunately had it in a grudge match (2 kicks, 2 behinds). Supersuns (15 disposals, 5 marks, 1 behind) worked hard all day though was unable to impose his will upon the contest, though he was hardly alone in this, accompanied by Frothies Mcveigh (13 disposals, 2 marks, 1 behind), though Sab22 was able to maintain his rediscovered form, having 19 disposals, 7 marks, 2 tackles, though only the one behind from his score attempts.

Toump Ass was able to register only the one handball, though he did everything he could one-on-one, and only had the one goal kicked on him it what proved a very tight tussle. Bastyy returned to form with 13 disposals, 3 marks, and a tackle, and the 200-game milestoner Edmund hunt celebrated with 3 goals charging forward from his 7 kicks, 2 marks, and 1 tackle. Chronz also found the going hard at CHB (11 disposals, 4 marks), as did omgfridge on the flank (9 disposals, 3 marks, 2 tackles), though in what was a legitimate surprise, James Colorado was able to recapture some form, having 18 disposals, 7 marks, and a tackle, with some of those disposals actually being effective.

Ok, got to try to catch up with these:

Season 40, Round 7: Gold City Royals (19.11.125) d Fighting Furies (9.11.65), at rfctigerarmy's Hippodrome.

A dreaded milestone match awaited the Fighting Furies in Round 7, as the selfish **** Frothies Mcveigh just had to play his 300th game of topline qootball. Thankfully he rose to the occasion, recording a colossal 8 disposals, 1 mark, 1 tackle, and 1 behind. Great work, Frothies. On the rest of the half forward line, Supersuns put in a solid shift (12 disposals, 6 marks, 1 tackle and a goal) and Sab22 worked hard for his 12 disposals, 4 marks, and a behind. At the pointy end, ShaunDuggan struggled with the lack of supply, only having 4 kicks, 1 mark, and a tackle, resulting in 2 goals 2 behinds. SplintWhisky was efficient from limited entries with 1 goal from 2 kicks, though his defensive efforts were ferocious, having 4 tackles. Grockadoc was unable to work his way into the game, with just the 4 possessions and no scoreboard impact.

In the middle, TRUMAN#1 dominated the centre bounces with 12 hit-outs to go with his 28 disposals and 4 tackles, and also hit the scoreboard with 1 goal 2 behinds. Unfortunately, the midfield was unable to convert the opportunities he provided, with NaturalDisaster (6 disposals, 1 mark, 1 tackle) and Greenery (7 disposals, 2 tackles) well held. Pickitt was amongst the side's best with 20 disposals, 4 marks, 3 tackles, and a 1 goal, as were the outside runners in Orange crush (28 disposals, 4 marks, 1 tackle, 1 goal, 1 behind) and crazywildhorse (21 disposals and 4 marks). Off the bench, rfctigerarmy was lively, with 20 disposals, 4 tackles, 1 goal 2 behinds, though Rioli8217 (1 kick, 1 tackle, 1 behind) has had better games.

Toump Ass played an excellent defensive game, having only the 2 goals kicked on him, though struggled for efficiency on the counter-attack with only 7 disposals, 1 mark, and 1 tackle. Edmund hunt was quiet (1 mark, 3 handballs), though Bastyy (17 disposals, 2 tackles, 1 goal 1 behind) had another fine performance creating from the last line. Chronz was superb under heavy pressure all day, helping himself to 17 disposals, 6 marks, and 2 tackles, ably joined by omgfridge, whose 17 disposals, 5 marks, and 2 tackles could have changed the game had it not been for the atrocious, yet expected, performance of James Colorado, whose 13 disposals and 2 marks would surely have his position in the side in doubt if he wasn't the selector.

Season 40, Round 8: Ophidian Old Boys (10.14.74) d Fighting Furies (11.7.73), at Spotswood Oval.

In a major blow to the Furies' hopes of playing finals this season, we had yet another milestone game. Thankfully, the 500-gamer ShaunDuggan actually put in a shift worthy of the occasion, having 4 goals 2 behinds (from 6 kicks and tackle), to keep the Furies in the match until its dying moments. In the pockets, SplintWhisky and Grockadoc were both quiet but effective, each having 1 goal from 1 kick as they tried to make space for the milestone man. Following a big week trying to stem the tide against the Royals, Supersuns (4 disposals, 1 mark, 1 tackle, 1 behind) was unable to replicate his efforts, though Frothies Mcveigh had no trouble repeating his, having only the 12 disposals and 1 tackle, however, he was able to have a goal for his efforts. Sab22 (12 disposals, 1 mark) continued to work hard, and did not have his colours lowered.

TRUMAN#1 had a rare loss in the centre square battle, having only the 7 hit-outs (though 20 disposals, 5 tackles, 1 goal 1 behind meant he still put in a solid shift), though his midfielders in Greenery (17 disposals and an incredible 9 tackles) and NaturalDisaster (16 disposals, 5 tackles) went a long way to finding their form again. Pickitt (17 disposals, 5 marks, 1 tackle, 2 behinds) was productive though let himself down on the scoreboard, though Orange crush (17 disposals, 5 marks, 2 tackles, 1 behind) and crazywildhorse (21 disposals, 4 marks) weren't quite given the room to operate in they prefer. Off the bench, Rioli8217 (9 disposals, 4 marks, 4 tackles, 2 goals) was able to force his way effectively into the contest, though after last week's hot performance rfctigerarmy (2 kicks) found this one cold.

Toump Ass was able to restrict his opponent to 3 goals (though there was some luck involved, as he kicked 6 behinds) while having 7 disposals and 3 marks of his own, though Edmund hunt (2 handballs) and Bastyy (7 disposals, 2 marks, and a goal) were restricted in their ability to counter-attack, even if the latter was able to run forward for a goal. Chronz (10 disposals, 1 mark) was solid in difficult conditions, and omgfridge (7 disposals, 2 marks) had an uncharacteristically quiet day. James Colorado seemed to remember that there is an onfield component to All-SFA, lifting after the previous week to have 10 disposals and 9 marks, meaning that it won't be quite so eyebrow-raising when he inevitably votes for himself again.

Will run a summer comp if there is enough interest

Season 40, Round 10: Fighting Furies (16.16.112) d Mount Buller Demons (14.6.90), at rfctigerarmy's Hippodrome.

After a series of fitting defeats in milestone games, TRUMAN#1 selfishly decided that one of Sweet's most cherished traditions did not apply to him, instead sparking a win in his 250th with 21 hit-outs, 25 disposals, and 7 tackles. Feasting off Bono's ruck dominance were Greenery (26 disposals, 2 tackles, 1 behind), NaturalDisaster (16 disposals, 5 marks), and Pickitt (16 disposals, 5 marks, 2 tackles). On the outside, Orange crush (30 disposals, 2 marks, 5 tackles, 1 behind) and crazywildhorse (21 disposals, 3 marks, 3 tackles) were unstoppable. Off the bench, rfctigerarmy (18 disposals, 6 marks, 1 tackle) got busy wherever he was put, though Rioli8217 made the most from limited opportunities, having 3 kicks for 3 goals.

Up forward, ShaunDuggan had a big game with 5 goals 2 behinds (7 kicks, 1 mark, 2 tackles), though inaccuracy plagued his compadres, with Grockadoc having 1 goal 2 behinds from 4 disposals, and SplintWhisky having 1 goal 5 behinds from 6 kicks and 1 mark. Supersuns was a colossus at CHF with 19 disposals, 4 marks, 4 tackles, and 1 behind, with Frothies Mcveigh (16 disposals, 4 marks, 2 tackles) and Sab22 (12 disposals, 2 marks, 3 tackles, 1 goal) providing valuable links between the midfield and forward line.

In defence, Toump Ass restricted his opponent to only 2 goals and had 10 disposals and 4 marks, with Bastyy (10 disposals, 1 mark) providing valuable lockdown assistance. In the other pocket, Edmund hunt appears to have misunderstood the assignment of a defender by running forward to kick 3 goals from his 13 disposals, 4 marks, and 1 tackle. Chronz was a juggernaut at CHB with 21 disposals, 9 tackles, and 2 goals 3 behinds, and omgfridge intercepted everything in sight with 16 disposals and 9 marks. On the other flank, @Jamed Colorado racked up cheap disposals with 19 of them to go with his 10 marks and 1 behind.

Season 40, Round 11: Wonders FFC (20.12.132) d Fighting Furies (20.10.130), at The Colosseum.

With no milestone games this round the Furies returned to losing on their own merits, though it must be said the match became an entertaining shoot out that was entertaining in every way except the result.

What was unusual is that gun FF ShaunDuggan was actually well held, returning only 1 goal 1 behind from 3 disposals. It was SplintWhisky who did the damage, finding the kicking boots he'd misplaced last week, and returning 5 goals 1 behind from his 6 kicks. Grockadoc ( 1 goal 3 behinds from 6 disposals) was a solid contributor in the pocket, and Supersuns (1 goal from 8 disposals and 2 marks) was busy at CHF. On the flanks, Sab22 (17 disposals, 3 marks, 2 tackles) and Frothies Mcveigh (24 disposals, 6 marks, 3 tackles, 3 goals 2 behinds) were busy all day, providing a link between the mids and forwards as well as directly impacting the score.

TRUMAN#1 continued his dominant form in the ruck with 24 hit-outs, 25 disposals, 2 marks, and 2 goals, with the midfielders in Greenery (27 disposals, 12 tackles) and NaturalDisaster (23 disposals, 11 tackles) putting in massive defensive efforts. Pickitt had 2 goals 1 behind from 8 disposals and 1 mark, with Orange crush (32 disposals, 12 marks, 1 goal 1 behind) and crazywildhorse (20 disposals, 5 marks, 1 behind) unstoppable on the outside. Off the bench, rfctigerarmy (18 disposals, 4 marks, 3 goals 1 behind) had another big game, and Rioli8217 (24 disposals, 1 mark, 1 goal) was prolific whenever injected into proceedings.

Unfortunately in such a high scoring game it's the defence that suffers. Toump Ass (15 disposals, 8 marks) tried all day, though had 7 goals 1 behind kicked on him. Bastyy (7 disposals, 4 marks) and Edmund hunt (12 disposals, 4 marks) did not struggle for effort, though there was too much high ball for them to have an easy day. On the half-back line, Chronz (10 disposals, 4 marks) was unable to have his usual impact, though omgfridge (18 disposals, 5 marks, 1 tackle) made a point of counter-attacking. Unfortunately his efforts weren't helped by James Colorado, who had probably the laziest 16 disposal, 3 mark game seen in this competition.

Season 40, Round 12: Sin City Swamprats (14.10.94) d Fighting Furies (11.6.72), at The Underground Stadium.

The Furies appeared desperate to establish their "lose on their own merits" bona fides, with another middling performance in Round 12. Despite another BOG performance from star ruck TRUMAN#1 (14 hit-outs, 28 disposals, 5 tackles, 2 goals), this did not translate into midfield dominance, with Greenery (15 disposals, 6 tackles, 2 behinds) and NaturalDisaster (17 disposals, 7 tackles, 1 behind) struggling to gain first possession, though both did put in excellent defensive shifts. Pickitt (25 disposals, 3 marks) was prolific in the middle, as was Orange crush (20 disposals, 8 marks) on one wing, though crazywildhorse (16 disposals, 1 mark, 2 tackles) was below his best on the other, Off the bench, rfctigerarmy (17 disposals, 3 marks, 2 tackles) continued his recent vein of good form, and Rioli8217 (11 disposals, 4 marks, 1 goal) made the most of his opportunities.

Up forward, ShaunDuggan saw his Fred Medal dream slip further away, returning only 2 goals (from 2 kicks, 1 tackle), though SplintWhisky (6 disposals, 2 marks, 1 goal) found a way to be creative whenever he got space, and Grockadoc contributed wherever he could with his 8 disposals and 2 marks. Supersuns was well down on his best, having only the 4 disposals and 1 mark at CHF, and Sab22 (7 disposals, 2 marks) also struggled to get involved in proceedings, though Frothies Mcveigh (11 disposals, 2 marks, 3 tackles, and 2 goals) found his hard work pay off with some scoreboard impact.

Toump Ass tried all day, though having only the 10 disposals and 1 tackle while having 5 goals kicked on him was not reward for effort, which was also the story of Chronz' day (10 disposals, 2 marks, 1 tackle). Bastyy (4 disposals, 1 goal 2 behinds) and Edmund hunt (4 disposals, 1 tackle, 2 goals 1 behind) counter-attacked from the pockets, and omgfridge (22 disposals, 7 marks, 1 disposal) was nothing but effective from his flank. In a shocking turn of events, James Colorado actually had a positive impact upon the match, having 21 disposals, 5 marks, and 2 tackles.

In a shocking turn of events, James Colorado actually had a positive impact upon the match, having 21 disposals, 5 marks, and 2 tackles.
My best game for the year

Season 40, Round 13: Roys FFC (20.16.136) d Fighting Furies (21.7.133), at rfctigerarmy's Hippodrome.

If there was one lesson the Furies were able to take from the last couple of games, it is that trying to kick a winning score should not really be a novel approach. Unfortunately, the Furies' have never been good at doing more than one thing at a time, and clearly did not have a double major that included restricting your opponent. Despite an exceptional attacking performance, punctuated by superior accuracy, the two-way effort of the Furies was, to put it gently, "somewhat lacking" enabling the Roys to kick a basketball score of their own.

In a BOG performance in a close loss, ShaunDuggan recaptured his Fred Medal form of Season 38, kicking 10 goals 3 behinds from 13 kicks and 2 marks, in a spectacular display that saw his signing autographs for an hour after the match, even for those who were just trying to get home, their rideshare drivers, and a bloke with no interest in qooty who was just out walking his dog. Grockadoc got involved in everything in the forward line, having 23 disposals, 3 tackles, and a goal, though SplintWhisky only played a cameo, and a very effective one at that, his sole kick resulting in a goal. Supersuns recaptured his best form at CHF, with 17 disposals, 8 marks, 1 tackle, and 3 goals 1 behind, with Frothies Mcveigh (16 disposals, 5 marks, 2 goals 1 behind) also having a big game on one flank, though on the other, Sab22 was a little quieter, with 9 disposals, 5 marks, and 1 tackle.

TRUMAN#1's strong form continued, with 20 hit-outs, 26 disposals, 2 marks, and 2 goals, though once again Greenery (9 disposals, 2 marks, 1 tackle) and NaturalDisaster (20 disposals, 2 tackles) weren't able to capitalise. Pickitt (22 disposals, 5 marks, 4 tackles, 1 goal) had another big game in the centre, with crazywildhorse (24 disposals, 9 marks, 1 behind) returning to form, though Orange crush (1 kick) had the quietest game of his career. Off the bench, Rioli8217 (12 disposals, 2 marks, and a goal) was tireless, though rfctigerarmy's recent form hit a slump, having only the 7 disposals, 2 marks, and a tackle.

In such a high-scoring contest the defence normally faces a lot of pressure, and Toump Ass did well to have only the 6 goals kicked on him with the amount of F50 entries the Roys had, still having 14 disposals, 3 marks, and 1 tackle to his name. Edmund hunt (13 disposals, 2 marks, and 2 tackles) was very busy in the pocket, though it was Bastyy who went everywhere from the other pocket, having 31 disposals, 7 marks, and a behind. The half-back line did struggle under the Roy's pressure, with CHB Chronz (7 disposals, 1 mark) and flanker omgfridge (11 disposals, 8 marks, and a tackle) being down on output, though James Colorado's performance of 14 disposals and 2 marks was really just a reversion to the mean for him.

Food poisoning

season 40, Round 14: East Side Hawks (18.8.116) d Fighting Furies (9.13.67), at Wally Centre of Excellence.

After the previous round's bold experiment of trying to kick a winning score, and accurately at that, proved to be a failure, the Furies went back to the tried and true method of losing games by kicking a middling score that would have been decent if not for inaccuracy. None of the blame can be laid at the feet of BOG Sab22, who from a half-forward flank booted 3 goals 3 behinds from 21 disposals, with 7 marks and 3 tackles. On the other flank, Frothies Mcveigh was also busy, having 1 goal 2 behinds from his own 18 possessions, 3 marks, and 3 tackles, while Supersuns played his role at CHF with 14 disposals, 8 marks, and 2 goals 3 behinds. At the tip of the spear, ShaunDuggan was solid without being spectacular, finishing with 3 goals 2 behinds from his 5 kicks and 2 marks, while SplintWhisky (2 disposals, 1 tackle, 1 behind) and Grockadoc (1 handball) were quiet.

TRUMAN#1 had a rare loss in the ruck department, though the margin between his opposite number and himself was wafer thin as he still finished with 13 hit-outs, 26 disposals, 2 tackles, and 1 behind. In the midfield, Greenery (15 disposals, 6 tackles) and NaturalDisaster (18 disposals, 6 tackles) continued with their struggles to find the qooty, even if their defensive game remains first class. Pickitt (18 disposals, 1 mark, 1 tackle) was also quiet in the centre, and Orange crush's return to form was a little slower than he would have liked, finishing with 15 disposals and 5 marks. His compadre on the other wing, crazywildhorse, was able to find enough space to have 22 disposals, 5 marks, and 2 tackles, while off the bench Rioli8217 worked as hard as he could from limited opportunities to finish with 8 disposals and 1 mark, while rfctigerarmy unfortunately did not trouble the statisticians.

In defence, Toump Ass was the major victim of the Furies' poor midfield outing, having 8 goals straight kicked on him and only being able to have 12 disposals, 4 marks, and 2 tackles himself. Bastyy (5 disposals, 1 tackle, 1 behind) and Edmund hunt (1 handball) were restricted from launching counter-attacks due to the Hawks' forward pressure, and even Chronz (14 disposals, 4 marks) and omgfridge (8 disposals, 2 marks, 2 tackles) found it hard going. In a very strange outing, though, James Colorado actually displayed some hints of genuine LEADERSHIP in his 20 disposals, 2 marks, 1 tackle game, but leaving it until the penultimate match of the season may not have been the wisest decision in the leagues's history.

Season 40, Round 16: Fighting Furies (19.9.123) d Gumbies FFC (15.9.99), at rfctigerarmy's Hippodrome.

The Furies match committee decided that for the final game of the season, it might be worth revisiting the plan from the Roys game to kick a high score and kick accurately, though this time it came with the revolutionary twist of restricting the opposition from doing the same. And so it was that the hitherto ladder-leading Gumbies were toppled by the second-last placed Furies to end the season on a positive note. TRUMAN#1 returned to his customary role of being the dominant ruck on the ground, finishing with 18 hit-outs, 16 disposals, 3 tackles, and 3 goals 1 behind, with centreman Pickitt the main beneficiary of the centre square dominance, having 29 disposals, 4 marks, 2 tackles, and a goal himself. Greenery (16 disposals, 6 tackles, 2 goals 1 behind) and NaturalDisaster (12 disposals, 5 tackles, 1 goal) may not have accumulated plenty of possessions, though to the end their defensive work remained exceptional and they were both able to trouble the scorers in their final outing of the season. On the outside, Orange crush (14 disposals, 8 marks) and crazywildhorse (15 disposals, 2 marks, 2 tackles, 1 goal 1 behind) were both serviceable even if below their best, and off the bench Rioli8217 (6 disposals, 4 marks) impacted where he could, though rfctigerarmy had his second consecutive game of donuts.

Up forward, a second Fred Medal fell away from ShaunDuggan's grasp as he was only able to finish with 3 goals 2 behinds from his 5 kicks and 1 mark, though Grockadoc (3 kicks, 2 goals 1 behind) and especially SplintWhisky (3 kicks, 3 goals) made the most of even the slightest of opportunities that presented itself. Supersuns (11 disposals, 2 marks, 2 tackles, 1 behind) was solid at CHF, as was Frothies Mcveigh (13 disposals, 4 marks, 1 goal) on one flank, though on the other Sab22's impressive late season continued, with figures of 16 disposals, 7 marks, 1 tackle, 1 goal 2 behinds to finish the season.

In defense, Toump Ass had a day to forget, having 8 goals 2 behinds kicked on him and only having the 6 disposals, 2 marks, and 3 tackles himself, though he was able to get forward at one point for a consolation goal of his own. Bastyy (9 disposals, 3 marks) and Edmund hunt (9 disposals, 1 mark) focused on locking down the defense rather than counter-attacking, as did Chronz at CHB (9 disposals, 4 marks, 1 tackle). From the flanks, omgfridge (18 disposals, 4 marks, 1 tackle) was very effective on counter-attack, and even James Colorado was able to play a game that was not accompanied with the adjective "inept", finishing with 15 disposals, 4 marks, and a tackle.
