Saw the preview on the footy show tonight and set it to record straight away. As someone who grew up after that era, all i have heard about them is stories from my dad about just how good we were. Cannot wait to watch as it is sure to be special. Channel 9 this Sunday at 12 o'clock, and it's on the 1981 GF for anyone that missed.

Re: The Final Story

Have set mine as well TB and it will be great to relive the 81 Grand Final which I attended all those years ago.

It is very special and the Carlton teams of that era were extremely good. ;)

Have to wait until I get home from the game on Sunday to watch it.

Ditto. Watching it after a win would top off a great day.

I found the special last Sunday of the 1970 Grand Final between StKilda and Hawthorn first class. As a supporter of neither of these clubs I found it riveting.

Will be tuning in for all of them.

Think you'll find that two other teams played in 1970. Your thinking of '71.
Yep 71.

Just trying to steal a premiership off you. But Id also be stealing a heartbreaking loss from Collingwood which I wouldnt want to do.

Look forward to the 70 GF being covered.

Sorry to intrude, but as a neutral, I found the doco to be absolutely brilliant - especially hearing how Collingwood imploded after losing all those GFs in such a short period of time by sacking Hafey. And seeing how Sport Science was really behind back then, even with Hafey, who put Collingwood through a hard training session on the Thursday. I had no idea Carlton were just a strong side at the time, and it was interesting to hear about Parkin's reaction to how Carlton 'bonded'.

Amazingly, the teams were renowned for their mosquito fleet, similar to what they are now with Betts, Yarran, Gartlett, ect.

It's really fantastic, and I highly recommend getting your hands on it. Being AFL media, I'm guessing it'll be on DVD.

Cheers. :)

It was good, except some of the behind the scenes footage was actually from 1982 premiership celebrations not 1981.

Will be interesting to see if they use the same footage in the documentary next year!

Got the missus to record it onto the DVD hard drive ....fantastic insight into the 81 grand final ...and brought back vivid memories of many of my Carlton heros Harmes, Doull, sellars, the Dominator, Marcou, Kenny Hunter...and the list goes on and on.....i grew up idolizing those blokes ..the famous Mosquito fleet..and our premiership quarter ..the 3rd quarter ..when we totally demolished opposition sides .

I reccomend you all watch it .

Cheers for that. Hadn't seen the game since I was six. Amazing how much of it I remember.

That, and getting The Dominator and Ashman's autograph earlier in the year....great, great team.

Magnificent period of our history - 3 premierships in 4 years - as a teenager you could strut around the schoolyard wearing your Carlton colours like you were the "**** of the walk".

As a club we dont get enough credit for this time - we should be spoken of in the same tones as the Essendon side of 84/85 and the Hawthorn side of 88/89.

But the Football Media of the time led by the bitter old Tom Prior (Chief Football Writer of "The Sun" and Lou Richards ghost writer) - ensured that we were never given the credit we deserved.

Every Carlton Supporter/Member should take issue in a pub discussion about the great teams of the 80s to ensure that our side takes its rightful place not only as one of the great sides of the 80s but as one of the great sides of all times.
