No one to blame but you boys for this one, had the chance to get the bonus point with the asking rate and wickets in hand well within your grasp and rather baffingly they chose to drop anchor instead of chasing it. Get the bonus point and you would have forced WA to chase a result.

Dumb cricket from Handscomb and his team

Not really, they sent out Maddinson to chase it and he fell. You do realise every wicket lost meant an extra 10 runs were needed?

But it’s funny to think for years everyone complained of roads being produced for finals and now you love it?

Shame about the result but credit to WA. They came up with the big moments throughout the match and thoroughly deserve to come out as the champions.

Lol Maddinson wasn’t sent out to chase it he was simply next in the batting order. You went for the slog after the 100 overs anyway, lost wickets & ended up 80 runs behind. Why not just go for the bonus point, end up 80 runs behind but with the bonus point?

He made 20 off 12 balls, he was clearly sent to chase. He fell, at that stage Victoria needed about 50 runs off 10 overs without losing a wicket.

Your scenario isn’t possible, we couldn’t be bowled out 80 short and get the bonus point. Do you not understand it wasn’t as simple as chasing WAs total? If Victoria was 9 down after 100 overs they’d have needed to be on about 350. Every wicket added 10 more runs to the target.

Perry had 10 overs of dot balls, you are just making up excuses as per usual.

End of the day it was a lack of ambition from Victoria that cost them. Too scared to chase the win by forcing the bonus point, ended up losing the war anyway.

Or the Vics could have shown some ticker in the final round, maintained top spot and hosted the final themselves

Well it was possible as they needed 20 off 2 overs. If Merlo & Perry had of shown any intent to get the runs in those previous 8 overs they could have easily made the target. They then most likely would have ended up less than 80 runs behind.

They choked, WA had every right to bat them out of the game. Stop being a bad loser.

Lol, you’re right, I’m starting to sound like a WA fan when they couldn’t beat Victoria in the final…

As a mad cricket fan - this has been a deeply satisfying summer

Test wins home and away, domestic titles and even my local club took the flag

I am getting the feeling footy season won’t be as successful

Pretty phenomenal result given the treatment we've copped from Cricket Australia this summer. Particularly doing it without Jhye, Green, Agar, Marsh, Turner and Inglis for extended stretches.

Obviously an amazing effort from Whiteman and Hardie, but stoked for guys like Paris, Bancroft and Kelly in particular who've just never stopped putting in the hard yards season after season and helped carry this thing home.

SA might actually win the final at least, not take the cheap way out like WA.

You had the game on the line twice only for Handscomb to bottle it with the bat and in the field. But I suppose it's no surprises someone mentored by Hodge goes to water as soon as the pressure is on and looks to heap the blame on everyone else.

A fantastic result for WA cricket and to finally have the Shield back at the WACA after 23 years is a very satisfying feeling. There are a lot of guys who have put in the hard yards for a long time so for them to finally claim the Shield is a just reward for them after many years of effort.

Both Sam Whiteman and Aaron Hardie were brilliant in WA's second innings, at 5/110 things were on a knife's edge but they both showed a tremendous amount of grit to grind out an innings each and then really press home the advantage as soon as WA got on top before completely batting Victoria out of the game.

Today is a great for WA cricket and caps off what has been a very dominant season by the WACA with both the men and women winning titles. It has been a golden summer really and very pleasing to see a WA cricket fan.

Wasn't it 36 off 57 balls (if no wickets) when Maddinson departed?

Insane batting to go from a reasonable target like that to 20 off 12 before the next wicket was taken.

I hope you never complained about the Pakistan pitches during the tests which were a minefield compared to the WACA.

So was it a road or not?

If it was such a road then why couldn't they manage the 37 runs from 56 balls to get that lead?

Was poor tactical play by the Vics and only had themselves to blame for WA batting out a draw, we generally do a sporting declaration (see Tassy game this year) but the Vics didn't offer that to us in the finals all those years ago so another thing that only the Vics have themselves to blame for.

Well played WA, good to see some fresh faces in the side....road or no road, WA took up the challenge from Victoria of batting first, put out a decent total, which Vic had the chance to better, but didn't.....WA were there to be taken in the 2nd innings, initially stumbled but rallied again....Victoria had their chances, but ultimately weren't good enough.....

Amazing to think Wyllie tastes Shield success in his 2nd game, Marsh tastes Shield success in his 21st season.

Who cares about the white ball. Hit n giggle cross batters.

Won’t win the shield. JL was unable to coach this sad bunch to the title. Used to think that was a black mark against Langer but once he got near quality cricketers he coached victories and success.

Better team takes the shield home

All those years ago the team that finished top did not have to declare. The opposition had to get 20 wickets to win.The reason why the bonus points are now there and is a good move.
