I've all but finalised my squad, although it was funny the other day i logged on to check my team and had a sudden urge of inspiration by making three changes, the major one of which involved throwing Houlihan forward and adding Hill to the backline - all after not having touched my side for close to a week.

I was never a fan of starting Hill, but have a weird feeling all of a sudden he will pay off; even moreso than Rich - who i was originally all for when i first created my team.

As people have said it's taken a while, but it's amazing how much my team differs from the initial squad i selected.

I may make another minor change by switching around youngsters on the forward bench. But at this stage i don't think i'll be making any further changes. Bring on Season 09'! :thumbsu::D

$1,500 short of my ideal side (albeit a little light on in the forwards) for round one, although that could change if I decide to downgrade Graham to a Sam Jacobs or similar, which I'm not keen on.

In terms of player combos, I've only got one to decide on. Typical risk/reward. One represents outstanding durability while the other one has a far higher ceiling.

No A/B/C, but I can live with that (I think). Plenty of scoring potential on the bench means some monster mid-year upgrades.

This what I see my final squad as looking like:

B: Hodge, Fisher, Mackie, Goddard, Cornes, McMahon, Bock

M: Ablett, Corey, Bartel, Swan, Thompson/Dalziell, Gibbs

R: Cox, Simmonds

F: Riewoldt, Franklin, Deledio, Giansiracusa, S Johnson, Richo, Didak/Pav

Players in italics are the ones im starting with. Obviously will be hard to get, but ive started off with most of the consistent ones so can hopefully get the rest cheap.

Thats a looooooong way off though... :p

What do you think is possible? I always wonder if im aiming too high...

Why not Cartman?

There is no such thing as aiming too high. You will never hit it unless you think you can.

Those teams are pretty much the equivalent of the top performers of each position. It would be near impossible to achieve, just look at the top few sides from last year. They all had players who were far away from being the top scorers in their respective positions; ie. Stevens featured in alot of final sides, he averaged around 90 whereas the 6th mid was around 100. There's nothing wrong with aiming too high, just remember it may not always be achievable. Have to be realistic about it. At the start of the year it is all well and easy to predict who your keepers are. During the year is an entirely different situation, injuries strike (Lucas) reports (Hall) and form drops (Bowden) can all affect those who we consider our premiums or keepers. It's just simply not possible to achieve your 'dream squad'. Higgins or Houlihan may end up being your 7th forward and defender. You just never know. Rambled a bit but I think the message got through. :D

I'm settled on my team as well. I was happy with it for a few days before Grimes got injured anyway but made a couple of changes that didn't seem to hurt my team too much (might've improved it in fact).

Will probably make changes to the rookies when the teams come out though I don't have much cash left to work with.

Barring any selection issues with my starting 22, I'm set now. I'm fairly sure there's only one bench spot I may have to change, which is the 2nd forward. I have Wade Thompson at the moment, but may opt for the safer Taylor Walker.

Yeh, they aren't possible.

If I replaced Carrazzo with Houlihan, who I'm not going to trade out until the last few weeks if at all to save trades (and it was a dream end of season squad so I figured I'd post a team in which i get a dream run wiht injuries, it's not only possible it's quite achievable if my bench fires.

Agh? I didnt say that? Cartman did? I think you are putting words in my mouth? Click on the little arrow next to the user name and it goes to the post - I didnt say that lol.

I think the backline disaster had a lot to do with people keeping players they ideally wouldn't have, but if you picked 3/4 of those guys from the start with the right guys filling the other positions, then it is entirely possible. You won't win it unless you get something close to the best scorers in each position by round 22 so it is possible and it happens often.

There's always option D(ane) :).

For the first time in about two months my team is Brent-less, and for the first time in about two months I can confidently say I'm happy with my team. I think it might just be a coincidence though .

<snip> Is that Brent Stanton ?? <snip>

I'm guessing you mean Reilly, Virgil?

I think i have finally got my team all sorted, i thought it was all done and dusted 3 days ago - with no rookies - but sure enough adding that rookie in and saving about 100k helped my team immensely so hopefully (best-case scenario) i don't change it at all until lockout.

I - like many others it seems - am having considerable trouble with the placing of Hill, backline (bench) seems the safer option early on but i'm most likely going to look to downgrade him mid-year and the midfield looks like the best place to do it.

At this stage i'm taking the risk with Hill in the midfield and backing my back bench in to provide enough cover for injuries.

Currently my biggest problem. Other than that, almost set.
