The Finals Bye Stays

Certainly favours the teams that have to travel interstate in the final round and the first week of the finals ala the bulldogs.
I don't like and there is no reason it needs to stay.

Honestly don't we have just about the highest chance of travelling (a significant distance) interstate in the final week of the season next year though?

It's not like it's a huge penalty on other teams, at worst it just levels the playing field somewhat. If it helps more teams win from outside the top 4 then it's probably changing the dynamic of the competition for the better, you can't just ride on early season success as much.

We are going to finish top 4 next year and beyond so its a moot point :)

What is just staggering is that they have said that every senior coach is against it, yet they do it anyway.
What is more staggering is that if every senior coach is against it why are the boards of the clubs not backing their coaches up and as a solid group demanding it be removed.

Head office must have some power over the clubs, there is not a thing that happens that any club really complains about and takes it up with them.
It is either a complete dictatorship or the AFL can just threaten them with less money if they don't comply.

Surely the coaches if all 18 agree must have some strength? Be nice if their boards backed them in once in a while.

The afl indirectly or directly controls the boards and fortunes of too many clubs. It is basically a bunch of morons given the keys to the kingdom who can do whatever they like, whenever they like.

Don't like. Both teams that won in the first week of the finals lost their preliminary.

If we had of won the flag in the same circumstances as the Bulldogs all hell would of broken loose and the bye would never happen again.

The advantage of working hard during the season and securing a top 4 spot has diminished significantly.

Assuming we finishing in the bottom half of the 8 or even make the finals.
It could work for us finishing in the top half of the 8 too. I get that we aren't playing a lot of football if we have the bye, win first week then have another week off, but I'd still be happy with that compared to the risk of playing interstate in the last round followed by another interstate game the following week.

And if we don't make the finals it won't matter to us either.

It can also work against you as was shown this year. The bye killed our momentum and allowed the Bulldogs to regroup.

It's because it's for the Bookies not the game and nothing else to do with football. The reasons they give you is a smoke screen.

The bookies cut up a stink because the Odds of that Fremantle game fluctuated so much from Thursday 3pm to Thursday Night after the teams were announced. Dimwit Demitriou is on the board of CrownBet. CrownBet is all over the AFL website. Everywhere. Theres's more CrownBet signage than there is AFL. Its a farce and sports betting adverts should be ******* banished especially when there are kids involved.

If we're good enough and don't play like polite twats we'll win the GF. Sam Mitchell better install some mungrel into the team.

I don't particularly like the bye and was surprised they kept it.

Im really excited about the influence he'll have on the young ones. Be great if Cole, Duggan and Nelson really cement spots nd change our identity.
