I have some sympathy for your overall point, but in reporting police matters there's an obligation to attempt to use the correct legal terminology where possible. It's not as if the article itself alleges things through speculation.

Not to defend what has happened at all, but the overall media response to this has reinforced my views that the saturation coverage of footy we're getting is to the overall detriment of the game.

Things from outside the football field, 12 month a year speculation about trade week, and gossip and innuendo about crap like training camps is all feeding the disgusting beast that is the AFL media. It honestly takes away my enjoyment of the game.
The photos of SPP and other Port players going to training was pathetic.

Adds no value to the story at all.

The saturation of AFL media is an issue as each journo tries to outdo another.

But it's not a police matter ? .......there's always 3 ways to report these matters ....toned down (a complaint to be investigated) ..accurately ....or sensationalized ( they should have just said raped, because that is what was inferred)

What makes me laugh is that peoples POV is colored based on whether they're a supporter or not .......supporters vehemently defend a players action, whilst opposition want him hanged & made an example of

Just sit back and do a mental calculation of how many journos/media personalities appear to be making a full-time wage regarding AFL.

Think then of how many improve your experience/understanding of the AFL.

Then think about how much, genuine AFL news there actually is.

It's an absurdly overfilled industry meaning every pathetic rabbit hole needs to be chased down to justify large swathes of useless drones livings.

the SA public can be rest assured port will conduct a thorough investigation.

surprised no one in the media has commented on the poor conduct shown by port players and supporters in the past.

Well.

Port would go into the national reserves comp, probably being 'forced' to have a team in the SANFL as well (yeah don't ask me how but you know it would happen).

Imagine that. Port having to field an SANFL team on the same conditions as the other SANFL clubs.

Where's the fairness in Port having no advantages of being associated with an AFL team?
We managed OK before 1997

Fiveaa with the hard-hitting questions to Clurey...

Rowe - "Tough day for SPP, how is he? He's a good lad.. tell us about him"

Clurey - "yeah he's a good lad, he's up and about, he'll be alright."

Rowe - "Yep well done! Thanks for that."

Honestly, I think they're appropriate questions to Clurey. It's hardly his place to be making any further comment.

It does continue to dispel the Port paranoia that they continue to get a bad run with the press (and in particular 5AA) though.

Koch:

“I am not sure being a footballer means you have to be a monk. We are not running monasteries here,” Mr Koch said on FIVEaa.

and

"“Yes, they are by comparison paid very well, have a role in the community. Yes that’s acknowledged, but they have to be young blokes at times."

Staggering given there are potential sexual assault issues here.

It is very sad. "AFL Media" has become an industry in its own right.
Getting to the point where it is more of the spectacle than the game itself.

Exhibit A: Caroline Wilson's (on Footy Classified) great concern about Rucci's failure to have a professional relationship with the AFC, and that 'someone needs to get them together'. With head nodding from Hutchy.

You are not the story, guys. We don't care.
