SA just beat us on green decks last summer, it was an intense series even if we were on the wrong end of things.

Hahahaha yeah the one in Perth where Duminy and Elgar made second innings hundreds and where Marsh and Warner has Australia 0-150 was a real billiard table.

There was help early for the quicks though and we ran through the SA top order first time up thanks to the conditions but plenty of green pitches end up decent for batting as they dry out, it wasn't as bowler friendly as hobart but it was still not typical for the pitches we have seen here lately where the bowlers are up against it from ball one.

I think most people would still rather pitches like that, even if they get better for batting at least give something for the bowlers early on.

If test match cricket is to survive, it must offer something for the bowler.

Let’s not give in to T20 batsmen

That’s all well and good but on a pitch like today for example, why the f*** were none of the quicks trying to cut the ball?

The skills of the game have become so inflexible that quicks think a pitch has to be a flying green top to offer them any assistance.

From the first ball it was holding up today. As if that wasn’t enough of a clue, Lyon was turning it from ball one.

How can professional bowlers be dumb enough to not see that and think ‘ok if I slow it down a bit and try and get the ball to grip, I can make life hard here’?

It’s not Mumbai, if the quicks try to cut the ball on this pitch it will go straight through there’s nothing in it for the quicks.

If it spins from ball one from an offie who doesn’t turn it THAT much, and it is holding up in the wicket, it will cut.

I really don't know why many of the posters on here even watch Test cricket, they clearly don't get it.
Teams either need to be out by lunch first day or making 180 odd

Pitch is a little off. But hardly something to whinge about

I have noticed this during the game, a lot of commentors on both radio and tv, dont really talk up how good the Brisbane test is, they avoid the topic. Feel like they are talking about how they can't wait to get to Adelaide.

The Gabba isn't one of those beautiful cricket grounds. It needs a fast bouncy pitch to create character.

It's not a road. It's just sluggish and painful. No pace, no movement. Wickets mostly gone to good bowling and batsmen trying to push things too hard.

Call me an optimist but the gabba deck looks like it will break up and be a bit more interesting on days 4 and 5. Been a shocker up until now.

I wouldn't know enough to comment on respective curators and their ratings but I do generally find Gabba tests the most boring of the summer.

Cmon mate - Adelaide has been saved by becoming a D/N test - otherwise an absolute road for 3.5 days thats boring af and you are hoping a side gets rolled in the last day and a half to produce a result

Probably in the minority here but i quite enjoyed the Adelaide wicket pre drop in wicket days; would nip around a bit
on day 1, be a fantastic batting strip on days two and 3 before the wicket deteriorated on days 4 and 5 bringing spin and reverse swing into the equation.

Not the greatest deck but the match is interesting so it’s aiit. I suspect the relatively low quality of both sides will mean it’s a very engaging series all the way through. :)

not only was this not true, the absolutely shocking pitches the whole way through ensured that england never had a chance

Yeah it was very disappointing in the end, wasn't it? I had high hopes for the series as I thought the sides looked a lot closer on paper than they ended up being. The pitches were absolute shit and the curators should stop acting as CA puppets.
