There's been numerous examples of people seeing curvature itt...

As for how it becomes a ball, I didn't think that was the discussion, I thought the discussion was "is it a ball", not "how is it a ball".
a whole swathe of openly edited jpegs...

this is just proof you haven't watched any of the material provided in the op or subsequent pro-flat posts. if you won't bother with the material, don't bother with the thread.
So that's all the proof you need to state I've not watched any of the material in the pro-flat posts???

But you don't accept any of the proof that the world is not flat?

Fine, you've kicked me out of this thread.

this stuff is breaking into the mainstream for some reason. "rappers" are having "twitter fueds" about the flat earth theory. i think i find this stuff more interesting then the idea itself - how and why they are putting the idea it peoples heads. but i have no idea!!!

isn't it bizarre!! why would neil degrasse tyson even respond to a) a flat-earther; or b) a largely irrelevant, over-the-hill rapper. kinda feels that by responding, as you said, he's putting it in more people's heads. really just strange how it's grown... and why...

oh yeah for those who haven't heard... i woke up and looked at facebook, and bam there was this (on pitchfork of all places wtf??)

that is interesting. i didn't even know who the other person was i just saw a youtube clip about the rapper and assumed it was another rapper. B.O.B is some incredibly small time pawn so it just reeks that he had a "twitter fued" with an "astrophysicist" and then they create diss tracks about each other, what is this comedy central? http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-...-rap-battle-with-b-o-b-over-flat-earth-theory

this is the youtube video i saw, as he mentions he has his own videos on the subject,

he's not 'incredibly small'. he's had a US number one album. has had a US number one track. worked with eminem, bruno mars amongst others.

that track has 300 million views. obviously his relevance has nose-dived, but, still, the fact that degrasse tyson even acknowledges is what weirds it out for me... why does he even touch it?

I agree - it's very interesting that this ha suddenly become a popular internet-driven craze - several celebrities have also jumped on the bandwagon and that's why it's in the news a bit and that's why Neil DeGrasse Tyson got involved - in his position as 'popular TV science guy' (like Dr Karl over here) he was asked and responded.

Nobody with any scientific credentials (or even brains) has come out in support of the Flat Earth - but because a celeb does, the media pay attention to it. Other celebs see the magic elixir - 'Publicity' - and jump aboard.

A lot of the push has also come from a religious group - Catholic Apologetics International Publishing - who have produced a film called The Principle. It supposedly points to research showing that the Earth is actually the Centre of the Universe (yeah, one of those). They tricked some scientists into making some statements, which they then edited, took out of context and put into the film to show 'Scientists agree with Us'! (The scientists have since disavowed those comments). Even the narrator - Kate Mulgrew (whose only claim to scientific credibility is she appeared on Star Trek) has accused the producers of deceptive practice.

Naturally, the film-makers have seized on this and made the usual 'Coverup! They've been got at!' claims. Anyway, the flat earth gets a bit of a run here as well. Other products put out by this group include:
How can I get to heaven?
The church was right, Galileo was wrong
A Primer on the Catholic Papacy - The Best Scriptural Argument for Papal Infallibility
Etc.

If you want to, you can find the links yourself on the Interweb. Remember to donate when you get there!! It's a Non-Profit Organisation, of course (and therefore no need for that taxation thingy), but spreading The Truth sure costs a lot!! (And we've removed all that previous stuff where we said the Holocaust was all made up, and anyway the Jews deserved it. Actually, we never said that at all and we were misunderstood, as well. La, La, La can't hear you!!!).

Leo DiCaprio is another to mention this on his recent trip to visit the Pope where the Hollywood actor spoke of "Environmental awareness"

http://www.bustle.com/articles/1383...is-truly-an-environmentalist-dream-team-video

"As a child I didn’t understand quite what it all meant, but through my child’s eyes it represented our planet, the utopia that we’ve been given," DiCaprio can be heard explaining in the video above. "And in the third panel we see a blackened sky, that represents so much to me what’s going on in the environment today. Yet in the back we have Hieronymus Bosch painting planet earth, when many thought the earth was still flat. So it represents to me the promise of the future and enlightenment."

nice and subtle

I've always preferred the "Hollow Earth" theories myself; subterranean civilizations, underground nazis, derros. What's not to like ?

Yep. Green folk like those siblings who appeared from a twilight land into rural England a few centuries ago. It's the place to be!
