Since the magnificent Nathan Burke will be playing his 300th at a local footy ground up north, the next time the Melbourne supporter base see him is against Collingwood round 9 on a Saturday afternoon at the G.

The crowds will already be flocking down to see the saints - knowing that a win is pretty much in the bag - and throw in this post-milestone game..........I'm predicting a double-header of live coverage into Melbourne with this game and then followed by the Ess v Haw game at Backyard Blitz.

lol spot on WCE2000.
kangas and St.kilda were the worst teams from last century.
despite the 1990's where kangas just dominated.

this could be a tricky game this one.
Kangas will be trying to continue there brilliant upset victory over the pies on Sunday at CS.
Nathan Burke in his 300th game will inspire the saints, but this game could go either way.
Best of luck to both teams.

At 1980, the Hawks were infront of Kangaroos for crapiness, but they redeemed themselves that decade.
And despite the good decade the Roos had in the 90's, they still couldn't overcome Hawthorn in my book.

St Kilda were alwasy right down the bottom.

I think everyone just completely ignored what the golden bear had to say.

I'm probably right in assuming Collingwood supporters would have a game against St Kilda well down the order in terms of interest level.

However the impression I have from our supporters is that we love playing Collingwood in front of a big crowd and have consistency drawn some good crowds over the years. Probably higher crowds than we have against any other side.

Perhaps Jethro if he is around will be able to tell us about the crowds that our teams drew in the early 1990's when both teams were successful.

It will be the first chance for the majority of us to see Burke play after his 300th game. On a Saturday afternoon at the MCG with both teams improving, the crowd could be huge.

Forgotten blockbuster?

Isn't "forgotten blockbuster" an oxymoron? Blockbuster's are generally well known and publicised games, not just games that you consider to be big games between your club and another...

Got off the train at North Melbourne ( 1950 ) Bought the Footy Record, read it as I walked to the Arden St. ground.
Lots to read about like whether the Hawks should return to the V.F.A (They had'nt won a game in sooooo long)
"Record" said that in the last Game between these two sides, though Hawthorn was the Home side and had to supply the Footballs they were so broke that North had to supply them.
So up yours you still owe us for the Footballs.

P.S I'm old enough to remember all this. :D :D :D :D :D

Thanks WCE2000,

I knew there had been some healthy crowds between the two clubs. When both teams are playing well at the same time, which hasn't happened to much of late, we are capable of drawing some large crowds.

I remember reading that the 1992 game at the MCG was one of the largest home and away crowds of all time. I read it around 5 or 6 years ago where I think it was at the time the 10th biggest home and away attendance ever. Probably changed a little since then.

Those early 90's games just stuck in my memory because I think we ended up losing 2 of them by a point and winning the other by a point. Maybe someone else might remember them.

Visro,

I'm sure when you look up "blockbuster" in the Oxford Dictionary it says - Australian Rules football games played between the Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon and Richmond football clubs.

It doesn't?

Perhaps then a supporter from any team is allowed to consider a particular match in any way they want.

Are most of you goal umpires?

Fair dinkum !! What a load of crap. Do you people actually read what is written? For some light humor - I suggest that the game between COLLINGWOOD and STKILDA could be a huge game being Burkie's first 300 game in Melbs. Next time I'll just write the recipe for Anzac biscuits and see what debate rages from that.
