Not quite up to it. Very good lock down defender at that level though.

Interesting that a young second ruck from our Academy played for Sturt. James Bell had a great GF. 21 & a goal. I think he actually racked up about 26-27 but a lot of his HB in class seems to have been counted as a non stat knock on.

Lachie Hosie, who was at North until being delisted kicked 6 goals.

Really pleased for James. Never gave less than 100% even if he didn't quite have what it took to succeed in AFL. Illawarra boy.

Pretty much reflects the view of Swans fans.

Picks 14 and 52, not much?

Hawthorn trades Mitchell and $250K in salary cap in the 2022 trade period for picks 41 and 50. I think the swans did alright.

It wasn't a good return at all.

Given his output to that point and his age, it would basically be like us losing Warner now or GWS losing Tom Green for pick 14.

He won a Brownlow a year or two after that trade. Pick 14 for a Brownlow medalist is not a good return.

Also what Hawthorn traded him for doesn't matter as Mitchell has not been the same player since his broken leg.

Curious argument as he wasn't a Brownlow medallist when he was traded, but I get your point.

Jack, Kennedy and McVeigh were not young. We all knew they would need replacing soon.
McVeigh was playing off half back most of the time then, Kennedy played another six years, and Jack was rotating into the forward line at that point.

Again, show me your posts from the start of 2016 saying which AA we should have traded to make more cap space for Mitchell

I am just listing the players that another poster mentioned.

Also we know despite going for another 6 years Kennedy was in a steady decline in the final 3 years of his contract and Jack was pretty poor in his last year or two as well. If Longmire wanted to keep Mitchell we would have found cap space to keep him.

What does any of this have to do with 2023 trade period?

It’s great to see the biannual Mitchell trade discussion, I am very much in favour of reminiscing and walking down memory lane. Some traditions we should never lose.

Here's a few of mine from 2016 where I suggested paying him ahead of Jack for example and put him ahead of Parker Hannebery and Jack at the time

Guess i am allowed to complain ?? to the mitchell thread 😂😂
Mitchells kicking issues are overrated considering his age and upside, He could carry a midfield.

I am slightly surprised when we prioritised signings over the years that a guy like say Kieran Jack got paid ahead of Mitchell.

Yep right now letting Mitchell go to keep pay Heeney and Mills and resign Kennedy, keep parker and hanners but I wouldnt go of let it get to that

just my view, not whinging.
I think I have placed too much emphasis on performance in big games, must be why i rate Mitchell higher than other mids

4th best mid?

maybe during the year I can accept that, but when it counts in September he was easily number 2

I'm just stirring , but the whole asking for receipts thing is stupid

These are all after he was traded or in the process. None from when he was refusing to sign while Parker, Kennedy and Hannebery re-signed.

It isn't when you have a section of the board dedicated to honking about how clear it was at the time that we should have sacrificed another mid to keep him.

Agree..
What sort of a coach would prioritise JPK, Parker, Hanners, Kizza, McVeigh etc.. Longmire is such an idiot! if only he listened to the keyboard experts on BS BF

Jack and McPointy were cooked.

Mitchell was already our second best mid after Kennedy. Under paid and under valued by Longmire.

His move stuffed the Club for a few years.

JPK and Parker were our two main inside mids - and both exceptional/elite/A-graders. Hanners our main two way runner (JPK recently said Hanners was the best he'd seen)
Maybe not enough room in the salary cap for all.. Remember Buddy was here and the AFL had taken away 10% of our cap.

yep, I reckon we should chuck out club captains, club legends and future coaches..
I recall Horse wanting to keep him, and reading between the lines, salary came into it and also Mitchells desire to earn more $$ and play a more senior role.
Im a bit sick of reading that every trade/selection/draft pick etc, that (in hindsight) hasn't gone perfectly for the Swans (despite none of us knowing all the details)... Is Horses fault!
Theres plenty of other people contributing to all these decisions.. and if its just Horse, then all you critics should pay a lot more respect as Horse is doing the jobs of 10 people!
