ONE of the best ever. THE best since 2000. I beg to differ.

Goodes is clearly the greater Swans player to me but I think Kennedy deserves enough respect to say that it's worth considering. Kennedy's impact upon this club and his career broadly speaking was truly remarkable. He'd have to be in contention for one of the best 5 players to have played as a Swan. Skilton, Goodes, Kelly generally considered to be the top 3 and I'd have Kennedy right in contention with Bedford just off the podium personally.

EDIT: swapped Kelly and Bedford

Sorry you are quite correct, I didn't read the initial post :embarrassedv1:

I'd be close to JPK's biggest fan and he was a (mostly unheralded) superstar, but definitely not up to Goodsie - in my 20 odd years of watching the game there are very, very few who are

The since 2000 is an interesting argument for best Swan.

Personally I have

1. Goodes
2. Kennedy
3. Franklin
4. Hall (Gets forgotten about a bit, but was close to if not the best player in the league for a little bit).
5. Rampe/ Hanners (Cannot and do not want to split them)

Unlucky: Parker, Kirk, MOL, Richards, Smith, ROK

Now a best 22 since 2000 is a tonne of fun and ridiculously hard (especially as I'm confident I have rose coloured glasses on the 05/06 teams)

B: Smith, Richards, Rampe
HB: Malceski, C Bolton, Barry
C: Hanners, Parker, Gulden
HF: ROK, Franklin, Jack
F: Mol, Hall, Papley
R: Pyke, Kennedy, Goodes
Int: Kirk, LRT, Llyod, McVeigh
Sub: J Bolton
Emg: Heeney, Mills, H Grundy, Kennelly
Coach: Longmire

Maybe a little controversial with Gulden, but his 2023 season was one of the all time great Swans seasons, I also strongly contemplated Tippett or Ball over Pyke, but felt like Pyke was a monster for us in a good stretch.

I also know Llyod has his critics, but his BnF results and consistency over time puts him in our team comfortably.

We might have to meet in the fencing piste over this Bonz because no way in HELL is Gulden making any Swans commemorative team over Kirk, Jude or Grundy. Maybe one day he'll get there but he's got a way to go.

Issue is I don't have Kirk, Jude or H Grundy as wingers. Could potentially stick Goodes there and move one to the RR spot, but I like that midfield balance. Or potentially stick Jetta there (maybe Paul Williams).

Happy to meet on the Fencing Piste whenever you want 😘

Kelly is considered Top 3 with Skilton and Goodes. Bedford just below that in the mix for the 4th best

That's if you're limiting yourself to those we have seen (or some of us have seen) play. There are lots more when you go back to our team in the 30s for instance, and also others before and after that. Laurie Nash was apparently arrogant and a bit of a twat but he was considered the best player ever to have played the game in his time. Bob Pratt kicked more goals in a season than anyone else ever has (his feat was later matched, but from more matches) and that was despite not being targetted as much as he could or arguably should have been. We have had other Brownlow winners too.

Dan Hannebery reflects on his career and speaks in depth about his two losing Grand Finals.

Seems to have taken it as well as possible. But going from someone who rarely missed to someone who could barely get in the park.

That tackle absolutely ruined his body, it takes time for the compensation to effect other parts of the chain but given the amount of running he did, it's no surprise that the injuries continued to compound over the 2017 season and eventually caught up with him.

I'm more annoyed than hanners is!!

Just a question. I do not visit this thread much so I hope it hasn't been answered.

Is Buddy still in Sydney and are the Swans looking to utilize him in some capacity?
He was apparently interested in the drafting of players and made his thoughts known to our recruiters.

He would be valuable to the club in so many ways.

I believe he and his family have moved to Gold Coast. He didn't go to the best & fairest and I noticed he also unfollowed a handful of our players.

Think he's done with us - and possibly footy - for the foreseeable future, as is his right I guess.

He doesn't like the limelight. Still, not bad to have a talent spotter in QLD.
Legend as a player and a person.

Has unfollowed players , really do people look at stuff like that

It's not something I consciously follow, no.

At the time when we draft new kids I like to check out if any of the boys follow them, and I notice Buddy is often one of the first. So from that I knew he did follow his teammates. Then recently I was curious if he was following a mutual friend of ours from Perth and while having a gander I did notice there were a number of teammates he was no longer following.

So that's about it.

Did you notice how many players (or ex-players) from other clubs (e.g. Hawthorn) he follows? It would be nice to think that if he had a hot tip for recruiting he would pass it on to us, rather than, say, Hawthorn.
