In what will probably be the beginning of the end of footyjumpers.com the AFL are now gathering information from the clubs on historical uniforms. While I could still run the site it would most likely be without the assistance of the clubs. and that would make it very difficult. If it comes to that I will open up the one drive files to anyone who wants to download them

Mod note: this OP is forked from the original fj.com thread, only moved here so it's a bit more visible to the board. – Gibbsy

Why don't they just gather it from you? The clubs get it wrong most of the time anyway. Why not just employ you part time rather than pay someone from 18 clubs?

In a roundabout way they are. That's how I found out, my club contacts emailed the info to me. But they're just taking it.
There nobody at club level responsible so they're emailing me asking for information

I have never understood why the AFL don't work in conjunction with you and utilize the site for their own promotion.

Oh man the AFL sucks....

As if it isn't clear to them that Mero is a legend with a website that specialises in jumpers and is a pretty f*ckin good site that tonnes of people use as reference for all sorts of s**t.

I love Mero and I love his site. The efforts he has gone to is incredible. He deserves some recognition. Here the AFL has a perfect opportunity of hireing Mero to work for them and provide all the information that they need. (Or more so Mero provide the information he already as.

Typical by the AFL. Couldn't give a stuff about its own history unless there is a buck in it or unless someone does the hard work for them.

The website is a living treasure and a historical look back on the game we all love. Even those without a passion for Footy Jumpers like we on this board can cherish the amount of time, effort and astute detail put into the recreation of each and EVERY single jumper worn by clubs in the 120 years of the AFL/VFL.

I hope the AFL finally recognizes Mero's good work, and understands the abundance of followers and admirers he has gathered while undertaking his project.

Mero is honestly one of my biggest influences in becoming a graphic designer - and it astonishes me given the clear effort he has put into this website over the years, the AFL doesn't acknowledge this amazing reference point of football history.

You can tell that the AFL is gonna * this one right up. NMFC uses Mero's images on their site (I think with reference) and Mero puts in shitloads of time and effort into preserving the history of our great game. As if anyone else would bother to even mock up that a team is wearing a heat press badge for their site. It's that level of detail that astonishes me. Mero's site deserve's official recognition from the AFL (and no stupid 10K licensing fee that you must pay) as it truly is one of the greatest site ever to have been published.

If the AFL are smart about this, they'll buy Mero's site and images off him and take total control - even contract out Mero to keep uploading.
Mero gets paid by AFL = AFL have complete control and any additional $$ that comes along.

Also means logos can be used and it makes the site better.

All good things come to and end. I've seen many online things I cared about die. There are more important parts of life to care about and mourn. Came and went and enjoyed it.

Heh so they're official AFL docs? Lord help us, they have the audacity to use your images and then change the dates to suit their own history..

If they don't want to document template and collar changes then so be it, but don't display some and not others.

The only positive out of those documents is the cool looking Football Classics logo

Mero maybe if you attempted to work in conjunction with the AFL this would turn into an excellent project.
IIRC he has tried and they weren't interested then, wasn't going to bring them money so Mero was left to his own devices.
I got the impression the AFL knew he was there and were happy for him to do it as long as he didn't breach copyright.
