India also didn't think of ODI or T20 cricket, they're really anti- that as well...

Having said that they've got a history of dragging the chain on innovation.

They were one of the last countries to allow floodlights to be used in test matches.

There were one of the last countries to allow DRS.

They'll probably be one of the last to accept day/night tests

If the time of the broadcast into India means more advertising Rupees (or dollars) I think they'll get on board. If it reduces their income then they'll resist with all their considerable might.

Best think for the Gabba to get Test Status back pull the ground down start again build a Multi purpose stadium with a Roof sitting 50k which means no cricket or AFL for 3 years and fix Transport and Car Parking to make it easy to get there so Qld Government need to find 500 Million to do it

Its where it is. There is no car parking in the area, it would be incredibly expensive to try and create any. there isn’t any parking at Suncorp either. So take public transport or dont go. Cross river rail will put a heavy rail station at the ground, along with the very large bus interchange, that will be enough.

The stadium itself has no real problems. Its a modern place with everything you need. A large chunk of it is younger than Etihad. Its perfectly fit for purpose. If they want to spend money to upgrade to showy LED lighting under the roof and integrated with the screens and LED advertising, nice. Apart from that, its way more than Ok.

Its a way more integrated experience than the SCG and significantly younger.

The Gabba is just not as new as AO and Perth and that’s really the only problem.

Gabba needs a standing area of some sorts like what the SCG,MCG, AO and Docklands etc. have, but once cross river rail is done no real issues
Do you mean like AO hill? If so what is comparable at the other venues?

It hasn't lost test status. The Gabba is fine, you would be better putting that 500 million towards Cross River Rail.

They're not. They're talking about not giving the Gabba the opening Test of the summer against India and giving them a later one against a lower-drawing opponent. Canberra will get their maiden Test next year and probably rotate/fight with Hobart.
Should be 7-8 tests a summer like in England. Canberra the extra city and perhaps rotate between Melbourne and Sydney for an extra test each summer. T20 internationals need to go, they're pointless bar when they play the World T20.

We usually have six, Hobart and now Canberra to share. If we were to have seven or eight then they could both host.
T20Is currently have no real underlying meaning but they will soon be part of a league structure, as will ODIs and Tests.

Only thing I've ever agreed with Micky Arthur on is to get rid of T20 internationals except for the World T20. It's a franchise sport, no one cares about it beyond that. Test's (obviously) and ODI's are far more important on an international level.

Have two four match test series in an Australian summer and 5 one dayers against each of those test teams and that can be the summer. Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Hobart, and Canberra can be those venues and perhaps host an odi in Geelong and Gold Coast.

And you qualify for the WT20 how? Player rankings in the Big Bash and IPL?

12 test teams auto qualify, the one day associate members play a qualifier series. Exactly how it's done now lol.
Test and ODI status should have nothing to do with qualifying for a T20 tournament. It's comparing Granny Smiths with Red Deliciouses. Both apples, but also different.
Anyway, we digress.

Looks like Lynn has a had gut full of the Gabba and wants it to be upgraded
http://www.news.com.au/sport/cricke...n/news-story/d7939f807c88da24e36ab4505e3f5f79

Apart from a refurbishment of the facilities that are already there, what can you do there? There isn't much room at all to expand like Bellerive Oval, there are roads to the North and South and a school to the East, meaning, the only end with any potential of expansion is the West end but it is the least patronized part of the ground on an average day for both Cricket and AFL

Isn’t construction of one starting soon from what I read a while ago..

Lynn only wants the Back of house facilities upgraded. The public facilities are modern and more than adequate. They might be tired. But the times of being there lately I haven’t had the impression that the public facilities need much work. And the bowl itself is very ok.

The Cross River Rail line has started early construction. They have knocked down a block of buildings across from the GABBA that will be the station and also is the entry point for the tunnelling equipment

They're not looking to expand capacity, just raise the standard of amenity on offer.
I did see a draft master plan (http://www.bfarchitects.com/woolloongabba-stadium/) which proposed rebuilding the very shallow gradient ground tier (that surrounds all but the northern wing of the ground), replacing it with a steeper raked tier more in line with the northern 2 tier wing. This will drop capacity back under 40 000 ( I think it was 36/38000) as the steeper rake will negate less rows under the cantilever of the current second tier. I can't see that being much of an issue as the Lions never pull 40 000, and the site lines will be greatly improved if they go ahead with it.

Just a case of keeping up with the Joneses. From the above:
The report put to Stadiums Queensland, the custodian of the Gabba, noted the pressure Queensland was under to upgrade its facilities.

"In the last five to seven years every major oval stadium across Australia has undergone significant upgrade, redevelopment or replacement," the report said.

"This will maintain and elevate the Gabba's status as one of the best sports venues in Australia and a local community asset.

Q: will Lang Park be putting its hand out for taxpayer dollars too? Its more modern than Docklands in Melbourne.
Suncorp Stadium, traditionally known as Lang Park, is the home of Rugby League in Queensland. A major $280 million redevelopment of the stadium was completed in June 2003 to convert it into a state-of-the-art all-seater stadium. The two year project saw the stadium closed for the duration with all but the main granstand demolished, which was incorporated into the new design. Suncorp Stadium is one of Australia's leading rectangular stadiums, if not the world, and it plays host to many major events each year.
