The Gabba

I'm currently looking at tickets for the match this Sunday.

It appears more seats are becoming available on Ticketmaster as the game draws closer??!

QUESTIONS:

Is the opposition cheersquad always in the general admission bays next to "The Verandah" as the image suggests on the previous page?

Also, what level 1 reserved seating bays are neutral support or opposition supporter bays?

Didn't know where else to post or ask this.

Cheers.

The Northern Exposure podcast this week - the guys talk about Roma Street Parklands as a possible alternative Gabba site. There is already a plan to build an alternative Entertainment Centre type complex over the railway tracks at Roma Street. Would a new Gabba work at the Parklands to make a super stadium precinct that includes Suncorp? Would a QLD govt ever spend that much to build an oval stadium? The government has committed to cross river rail partly as a Gabba transport solution. The parklands idea could possibly help rejuvenate the Roma Street station end of the city which has been pretty dead for as long as I can remember.

What modifications could be done to the Gabba to improve it?

What are the issues that need to be fixed?

Would love a new stadium, but can't see it happening, the best bet would be to do what needs to be done to the Gabba.

I think it's more about the exorbitant rent we have to pay to train and play there, as well as getting access to it for training sessions, with Springfield looking highly likely to go ahead we will only need it for game day. We will now have to negotiate a more equitable rental agreement for games with stadiums QLD.

Watching the oldies struggle to walk up the stairs is an issue. Put in escalators would be a start.

Easier just to ban the oldies.

There's just no room anywhere. The walkways around the outside are narrow. The ground hangs over the road on 2 sides. If the place is anywhere near full it takes so long to get in and around.

In a perfect world you could put Vulture, Stanley and Mains Rds underground to create open space around the Gabba.

Could also enclose the walkways to keep some of the wind out and atmosphere in.

The fact that it's so tightly packed in and close to the city would make redevelopment so difficult.

That's why we're building a stadium at Springfield! :D

The way crowds are going the men could play out of there too.
15,000 seat stadium, where the stadium only “circles” one third of the ground. Long term, could build seating for another 30,000, and have a 45,000 seat stadium.

Move the team permanently out to Springfield and watch the Gabba collapse.

Wouldn't mind seeing us using Springfield for leverage with The Gabba. Suggest playing GWS, Freo, West Coast and North at Springfield, would be nice to hold some cards at the table.

I don't think the AFL would let us play at Springfield when it has an anticipated capacity of 12,000 IIRC.

Woah. Remember the outrage when Angus (or was it Sharpless) shared their dream of one day playing AFL games out there? It's a terrible idea. Let's not get carried away.

The same government we are negotiating with re the Gabba is also the same government dangling $15m for Springfield in front of us.

We need to play nice.
Obviously...just until the ribbon is cut on the facility.

Looks fantastic, in the report it was saying 15-20 years but good to see that Mick de Brinni says it will not take that long. I would love to be still around to see it on completion.
