Which program - The Game or The Footy Show do you think is better . . . and why?

How can either show improve, and what things do you want to see more on the programs?

The Game far and away. But it has been drifting a little of topic. Stick to serious FOOTY discussion and it is my drink of choice *hcik*

Besides that I hate Marmalade, who told this bloke he was funny? To bad he believed it. Tommy Cooper, now that was funny

I think the Game simply because it is willing to spend more time dicussing *football* as opposed to reading out Sam's mailbag or spinning the wheel or whatever.

Whilst I don't mind Eddie McEgo when he is commentating I don't want to spend two hours listening to him talk about Collingwood.

The Game is slowly improving each week while TFS drifts further and further off track. Oh btw, has anyone noticed that Dermie Does has got a little softer after he sprayed Buckley the first week?

The game may well be a better show for discussing serious footy but it is simply too boring for me. I can't watch for the whole program because it doesn't have any variety. The footy show may be full of sh*t but at least you can watch it.

Essendon 2000
Who will stop them?

The footy show in my opinion is head and shoulders above the game, for one simple reason, it has a professionally trained journalist as host.

Despite being a dick head, Eddie McEgo is very professional in his approach to handling issues. A good example being the 'Whiskas' fiasco last year, Eddie listened to all sides of the story before making a comment on what he thought of it. Sam Newman completely dismissed it, as I'm sure did many other past players.

One thing you have to remember is that The Game and the Footy show are two completely different shows. The game is more serious and doesn't have a lot of light entertainment whereas the Footy Show is simply about footy related entertainment, not so much footy.

The footy show also offers current players opinions on certain issues (The ones they can talk about) this is lacking from the game.

The footy show is also naturally funny, whereas Live and Kicking was the greatest try hard for laughs in history, at least the game knows its serious.

We already have serious football shows on TV, Talking Footy, The game, Game Day, Footy Show Sunday etc. We need to laugh more and the footy show lets us do that.

Apart from that, the only laughs we get in footy are trying to understand Doug Hawkins or listening to Bruce commentate a North Melbourne match "Oh Wayne, he's just so speeeeeeeecial"

Slats, in response to Essendon 2000 - who will stop them?

The only thing that will stop Essendon will be if they lose Hird, Lloyd, Lucas and Fletcher to injury all at once. If not I don't know who will beat them - Hopefully Melbourne this week or Geelong in Round 11.

The other thing that will stop them would be an earthquake over Windy Hill at their training time that sucked them into the ground, never to be heard from again!

Joel - over here they are both on at the same timeslot - 9.30pm WST, or maybe you mean you videotape one of them and watch the other?

Well I didn't realise that. But of course you could tape one and watch the other. It starts at 8pm here, it wa changed to that timeslot because the footy show was thrashing it in the ratings, even though originally the Game started before The Footy Show and continued through the first 1/2 and hour or so. So its now possible to watch both. But I think The Game isn't bad, but it doesn't worry me if I miss it.

Lucky Southerners once again ...

If you want to watch either show in Sydney you have to wait up untill around 1am Friday morning.

I usually tape 'The Game' and watch on Friday evenings while I wait for the Friday night game to come on, again this usually doesn't start untill around midnight

Watch Australia's most popular sport in Australia's biggest city on TV at a reasonable time ? - No chance !

personally I like the game, i like the player under the microscope that they follow around the ground and the good usage of all that film in the channel 7 libary. Also good to watch a footy show with no Bruce or Eddie, after saying that i like the footy show as well, but I can stand Bruce Macavaney, he is such an arse licker it drives me insane!

I used to watch the Footy Show religiously until Sam started to go over the top and just embarrass himself. Now i only watch occasionally.

But the show last week 4/5/2000 was the best one I can remember. They seemed to let the players have more of a free reign and Schwatrz, Crawford & Buckley were very entertaining.

I refuse to watch the Game because channel 7 took of my favourite show mid season to accomodate its amended timeslot. And I can't stand Tony Shaw.

For entertainment purposes, The Footy Show is the best by far. I've only ever watched The Game once, and that was one time too many. Like Servo, can't stand Tony Shaw, great player, but talks so much crap, at least with Sam, he makes a lot of valid points.

Main dislike I have for the Footy show is
tr (ahm) ev (amh) or (hph) mar (amh) mal (anh) lade (hph)

Takes more time to stutter out quick one liners than Salmon does to take a set shot at goal. Simply woeful in all aspects.

Also Manton? What is that guy on? Luckiest untalented bloke god put on this earth,in Warnes immortal line, "Can't play, can't kick, can't mark, can't handball".

The Game....long gone

The footy show on the other hand is the ********test show on TV.Im a collingwood supporter and I even hate it.Just the same old repetitive ********.

its actually an interesting thread. 5 years ago they compare the 2 shows and today 1 show has gone while the other is struggling for viewers. Interesting how times change

yes manton was nowhere near as funny or entertaining as shane crawford ..the mannequin.
(my apologies to all the mannequins out there)

The Footy Show could be a lot better if Sam wasn't so preoccupied with being a dic*head and they concentrated more on the teams that were actually winning. It really annoys me that they spend 1 hour covering maybe two or three games then cram 5 games in the last 10 minutes. The whole show is getting very tedious and predictable.

Before the Game (is that the one with Sam Lane?) is definitely more entertaining but lacks a bit of structure. Sometimes they forget to preview a game altogether.

Either way I'd rather watch them than the rest of crap the networks dish up.

1-Newman is a DH and as Manton and Fevola,2 failed comedians.
2-Indeed.
