Picked it up this morning from EB in the city.

Unfortunately all I can do is stare at it laying on my desk, because I'm stuck at work.

Until you actually hold it in your hands, you just can't appreciate how small the console is. Seriously you could fit four of these things into an X-Box.

And the Disks!!! They are really, really tiny.

Anyway, there will be plenty of Wave Race & Luigi goodness over the weekend. Then Smash Bros, Resident Evil, Eternal Darkness, Mario, Metroid and Zelda all arriving before the end of the year.

You left Super Monkey Ball off your list.

Must have been an accident. ;)

I'm actually going to hire Super Monkey Ball some time next week, gPhonque.
A mate of mine has had the imported version for quite a while now and it's bloody addictive. Sega games always are.

Catman, it all depends on what games you're interested in.
Don't worry about crap like RAM or Graphics, because there honestly isn't much difference between all three.

Personally I love games that are developed by Nintendo.
Games like Mario, Luigi, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Star Fox, Metroid, F-Zero are all must-buys for me.
But if those games don't appeal to you, then the GameCube probably isn't the console you should buy, because the third party support isn't exactly plentiful.

The best thing you can do is look through the game lists for all three systems, and then make a decision based upon that.
IGN is probably a good place to start.

After 1 day of having my gamecube im addicted.

Rogue Leader is one of the best games I've ever played, mad graphics, addictive gameplay, and bits and pieces of the original 3 movies packed into the menu.

Wave Races wave phsics make u drool. one great game.

After getting used to the contoller, i found that during wave race the B button was a little bit hard to get ur hands on without thinking about what ur doing. but overall its one fantastic contoller. The main stick surpasses the PS2 main stick thing with more contol over what your doing.

After N64s ****ey kiddie console this is a big improvement.

Games like Tony Hawk 4, Crazy Taxi 2, Mario Sunshine, Eternall Darkness, the new soccer game coming out and AFL2003 will all be must buys.

You should check out the screen shots for Star Wars; The Clone Wars here then. Looks like it will be great. It picks up from the end of Episode 2.

Rogue Leader....the sole reason i would consider getting the kiddy machine, that game looks awesome but apart from that one game, the rest are just boring....entertaining for a 12 year old but for us serious gamers we need serious games.

yes. and to answer your query...

IT IS ****ING UNREAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MADEST SINGLE PLAYER SHOOTING GAME AROUND!!

ITS THE COUNTERSTRIKE OF COMPUTERS..

fantastic game, awesome graphics and unreal entertainment.

Congrats, Lethal.

Make sure you've got enough cash saved for when Eternal Darkness is released. And Resident Evil apparently has the best graphics ever seen in a console game. Kiddy games indeed.

Also E3 is going on over in LA at the moment, and everyone (including the X-Box fans) are going ape droppings over Metroid Prime (exclusive to the Cube). I was seriously considering buying an X-Box (for Halo) but I now see no need. Metroid looks twice as good.

Mario, Zelda & Metroid are all fighting for the 'game of the show' award, and at least two of them should be out before years end.

I have a feeling my PS2 will be gathering dust for the remainder of 2002. :)

TheRealBuzz, I downloaded a couple of videos from E3 last night of Mario Sunshine, Zelda and Metroid Prime and they are all looking great
I was a bit concerned about what they were going to do with Zelda when they revealed it was going to be cell shaded, but it looks bloody good, Metroid Prime looks so atmospheric I really can't wait for that one.

2 questions

-can someone give me a brief summary on what type of game Metroid Prime is?
-can anyone confirm that AFL2003 is coming out on Gamecube? Anyone have a link?

It's a first person shooter, but also requires a lot of exploration of the huge stages and will also switch to a 3rd person perspective at times.

The Metroid games on the snes and nes were classics, and this one looks like it's headed the same way. Most people are predicting it to be named Game Of The Show.

Yep, I thought they had rocks in their heads for making Zelda cell shaded, but after downloading a huge hi-res movie I now want the game more than ever. The animation is absolutely flawless and smooth.

Link still looks a little strange though. :)

This is my first post on this board.
I'd just like to state that I will be getting Nintendo Gamecube soley because of the greatness of Nintendo's 1st party and 2nd party franchises.
If you are intelligent enough to look past the slight "kiddy" look at some games, you will notice that Gamecube is the best.
PS2 would be my second choice followed by XBOX which im not that impressed by.
