Considering Gary Ablett was voted Geelong Football clubs greatest player and the fact the media wont even recognise Ablett as one of, If not the greatest player of all time I thought he should at least have this honour. What are your thoughts?

I think the biggest issue is that we tend to ignore the past champions of the game because they ahev not been captured on video or been seen in the last 30 years.

Carji Greeves Brownlow medalist 3 times runner up 2 premierships Hall of famer GFC Team of the century.
I think those stats still hold him up well. Players like this helped develop the game and when he played was seen as a super star just the way we do see Gazza.

If it were the Austin McCrabb medal or JAmie Lamb Gates then yes change them ASAP. Remember Footy was played prior to 1984 and the guys deserve the recognition.

and for what its worth GAZZA is the Best player EVER!!!!!!!!!!!

So very, very true. The media in their entirety have made an art form of forgetting everything prior to 1994, let alone the 100 odd years before that. A great player from the 1930s such as Haydn Bunton deserves just as much respect as stars from today.

I'd be happy for an Ablett medal for something else. Apart from Carji being a legend, the name has a great ring to it. I'd rather win a Geelong Carji than a Fremantle Doig.

The medal probably should be named after our best player, which Ablett is. Just because he retired in 97 doesnt mean we shouldnt change it to the Ablett medal. If he played at the same time as Carji, it would probably be the Ablett medal...

change for the sake of change is pointless. Keep it as the carji medal. If you wanna honour Ablett in such a way name another award after him, but forcing the indignity of stripping the honour off another club legend to make way for him is the wrong way to go about it.

I guess having a section of the stadium named after him isn't enough??

Do you think they mean formerly or do all this things have formal names that are completely different?

Nah course not no one would make that error I think

Gary Ablett Terrace formally called the Northern Terrace

just means that Gary Ablett Terrace is the nickname or informal name of the Northern Terrace and that officially/formally it is known as the Norther Terrace :D:thumbsu:

Id be happy if they named the stadium after him. Imagine that Ablett stadium. ;)

That would be good, but it would never happen if suggested due to sponsorship with Skilled. Maybe The Skilled Ablett Stadium?:D

Its the Carji. Should stay that way.
Ablett was a phenomenon and deserves better than a gate or a terrace to honour the pleasure he gave supporters. Do you remove a Hickey or a Carji? No.
So what then? Supporters need to post ideas so the club can get a feel. Sometimes supporters need to give them a lead.

Perhaps when the Northern or Southern end gets the upgrade stand it could be the Ablett stand = goal/end. Time is needed. It will happen.
