That was a ******* brilliant fight. Horn readjusted his tactics and wisely so. 9th round was carnage with Zerafa coming out like a man possessed heeding his corners advice. Ref was doing his job and rightfully so but also cost Zerafa dearly and saved Horn damage at the very least. What a ******* Knock down though. Zerafa has great heart not just to get up but also to withstand a good beating for much of the fight, or at least absorb a lot of big punches.

Awesome fight and very pleased to see Horn atone for that last brutal loss ( which almost happened again in the same round ) and Zerafa although partly playing the Boxing game, did mouth off too much for my liking.

On ya Horn!

I read this on a boxing forum just now:

"Rushton really is a moron he is trying to make Horn wear Zerafa’s gloves and he is explaining this to Horn while eating a sandwich and drinking a sprite and the fight is only 30mins away."

Can anybody who is watching the fight confirm this claim? Startling if true.
that was true. Youre a funny campaigner trying everything and looking at everything through gambling goggles.

Also for those that didn't pay the 60 for it, you missed out. Worth every cent. Cracking fight and one of the best in Aussie history. A great fight period that was world class.

Well worth the $60.
Was impressed with Horn, the amount of times he hit MZ with the left jab was unbelievable. The time out bought him 15/20 seconds,I really thought he was going down in the 9th.
I don't think MZ lost too many fans, acted like a dick before the fight but was all class after it.

I've only seen about two minutes of fight on youtube and 9th round looked epic.
Boxing fights almost always major letdowns, boring or corrupt or all three at once that rarely gains my interest much but this one seemed to have some appeal and wow, the highlights I saw looked sensational Horn was getting smashed in 9th round, was almost like a Rocky movie beating....lol and then he just moves his head below to avoid a reckless round house by Z and then bang!! Skillfully lands his own straight to head and stops Zerarfa in his tracks, good and proper.
Still Horn must have done good in other rounds to still win on points. Will find someway to find it at some stage but maybe one of best boxing fights in Australian Boxing history. I am amazed the forum is not having more talk about it. Rare time Boxing is entertaining this century.

Why? It was a $50 PPV with no streams available. The only people tweeting about it were the journos paidto cover it. There was absolutely no interest in this fight and its time promoters in this country find a new way to raise revenue without having their hands deep in loyal fans pockets.

Fight would have been massive on fox sports. People texting each other how good it is and more and more tuning in. Instead almost no one saw it...

Those who did saw round of the year quite possibly but the fight, along with gallen/hall, Tzsyu/Brubaker etc just arent PPV worthy. As someone pointed out, UFC was cheaper and had 3 title fights...

Horn signalled his intent from the get go.Charged out at the first bell and threw a massive haymaker and maintained the pressure. He'd obviously trained hard, his movement was non-stop,in out,up down, side to side making him hard to hit and letting him throw punches from mad
angles.
He fought rough too, boring in with his head, copping a cut on his eye.Copped a few warnings for punches to the back of the head and rag-dolling Zerafa. This was in the first 2 rounds. It really was a classic fight.

Martinez and Rosales just fought a cracker, even if Rosales took a bit of a beating. The second round in particular was wild.

Then controversy in the main event as Chavez Jr quits unexpectedly after the 5th.

Crowd going nuts throwing s**t in the ring and pelting him as he gets escorted out. A few fights breaking out too.

Wilder-Fury II set for Feb 22. Fury might be the better boxer, but not good enough to avoid the punishment Wilder can hand out. Deontay by KO, 9th round (1:56 secs).

Fury has to be perfect for 36 minutes
Wilder has to be perfect for a few seconds.

Fury got up twice the first time but that isnt something you want to rely on.

For a fight they let "marinate" since the first one, im much less excited for it than if they just ran it back straight away. Had this been done straight away, id have been able to get 4-5 mates over to watch and buy the PPV. I told them its on now but theyre not that interested. Ill stream it sadly but does beg the question, does "letting a fight marinate" really work anymore?? Im not so sure

I'm not such a fan of the heavyweight division, but Fury-Wilder II gets a bit of interest from me and I know it'll be an earner. The fact that neither of them have lost since the first fight helps.

Which gets to your question about letting a fight 'marinate'. It's something which always comes with risk, but often the rewards still seem to outweigh the costs. The essential point is that it always depends on the names involved and a myriad of other circumstances. Mayweather-Pacquiao should have happened a lot earlier as far as fans (and Manny) are concerned, but it's hard to imagine that the fight could have generated any more attention or revenue than it did by the time it finally happened. Joshua should have put it on the line against Fury or Wilder before he even had a chance to lose it against Ruiz, but he has since regained it and will undoubtedly make a mint by fighting the winner of Fury-Wilder II, and could earn nearly as much by fighting the loser of that fight before a unification bout. In this case, the fact that the heavyweight division has three notable names continues to give each match-up a lot of currency.

There are plenty of examples to the contrary, examples where matches/re-matches went stale, but I don't think Fury-Wilder II will be one of them. As you said, the fact that Wilder could end the fight in an instant against a more talented opponent makes it intriguing, especially against Fury.

Looking forward to it but the judges in boxing are just f’ed both GGG/Canelo fights then fury/wilder

It wouldn't be boxing if there wasn't a steady stream of baffling decisions. To see Julio Cesar Chavez gifted a draw against Pernell Whitaker (1993), you realise that anything is possible. I re-watched Canelo v Mayweather not long ago, and somehow was surprised all over again that Canelo managed to be given a draw by one judge after that utter embarrassment.

For Fury v Wilder II, I think that Deontay will be rather determined to keep the fight out of the judge's hands.

With it being in America will be surprised if fury wins no matter how bad he schools him

Sounds like Horn/Tszyu is going to happen. Interesting fight but I wish our guys would fight overseas opponents rather than always wanting domestic fights. However its the biggest domestic fight we have on the horizon

With that said. Where would people set the odds for this one?

Quoting myself here, but just adding that in the presser from earlier today (worth a look) Fury said how he will be gunning for the KO in this fight. I'll be glued to this fight. It's on the same day as the UFC FightNight from NZ.
Hes just selling the fight. Theres more chance be shagging Margot Robbie than Fury following a game plan revolving around a KO...

So what are people's thoughts on the Fight of the Year for 2019? I went back and watched The Ring's five nominees and for me there were two clear standouts. My personal rankings:

#5. Taylor vs Prograis: great technical display and probably the most even bout of the nominees. Absorbing fight but lacked the out-of-your-seat dramatic moments of some of the others.

#4. Pacquiao vs Thurman: this was like watching a computer game - both guys trading punches non-stop with barely a clinch seen all match. But for all the non-stop action I felt it lacked the drama of the next three fights.

#3. GGG vs Derevyanchenko: love a fight that develops it's own storyline and this had a good one with Derevyanchenko suffering a bad cut early and managing to protect it and outbox GGG for much of the match. I thought he was unlucky not to get the decision in the end, maybe the 1st round flash knockdown affected the perception of the following rounds.

Daylight

#2. Spence vs Porter:
I thought nothing would get close to Inoue/Donaire until I watched this. I loved this fight, brilliant hard-hitting all out war from start to finish. Fantastic performance from both guys.

#1. Inoue vs Donaire: this was the fight that made me fall in love with boxing, so I made sure to go back and rewatch to compare to the others and, yep, it's still my #1. Spence/Porter might have been the brawl of the year but this was the boxing match of the year for me. Both guys showed great chins taking multiple heavy clean shots. Great ebbs and flows with Donaire absorbing a ridiculous amount of punishment before coming back and rocking Inoue, only for Inoue to reassert his dominance despite a fractured nose and eye socket. Massive respect for both guys after watching this.

Williams v Rosario was on fox/kayo this morning.

Undercard wasn't great but an entertaining main event with Rosario upsetting William in a 5th round KO to take the WBA/IBF super welter belts.
