A little surprised 170 didn't have its own thread?

Anyway, the card wasn't great but i thought R-Mac and Maia put on a hell of a show, that fight had a little of everything. Agree on Herb, seems as though he was frazzled and let Pyle beat on Waldburger for too long, the only defense i can mount is that Pyle was being very calculated and picking his shots instead of the standard maniacal swarm guys put on when the opponent is hurt and the McMann stoppage was early, seemed like she had recovered just as Dean was coming in, in his defense (again) if you have ever had to take a liver shot it does completely shut you down and i know Herb has fought and trained alot so he probably knew how bad it could be.The worst part was Ronda trying to finish with punches, they wouldn't have knocked a baby out, for all the talk of Rondas striking having evolved and her being this killer she still basically wades in winging shots with her head down trying to grab a clinch, and i am an unabashed Ronda fanboy.

They seem to always have issues with the audio production, last card they kept having issues with ring girls still being in the ring for 30 seconds longer than they should have been meaning the fighters had to wait each round... In fairness it wasnt all bad....

Dean Purdon wears the smugglers, dude is tough as nails but with that rig he should cover up a bit. Usually does something funny during the walkout too? How were the actual fights?
Yeah well the ring girls had suspiciously large salt lake cities for such tiny girls, but yeah like you say not all bad! :thumbsu:

I was being a bit tongue in cheek about Dean Purdon, bloke took the fight on 3 days notice and acquitted himself well so he can wear whatever he wants I reckon. He wore a mask on his way out and carried on a bit, yeah he looked a bit pudgy but if you're going on short notice that can be excused.

The fights were good, Banjo had a good win in the main event. I didn't know any of the fighters but there was definitely some talent, there was a black Pommy bloke who looks like he's v decent, ripped as **** and mean as hell.

There was a fight in the undercard with a tall kickboxer (took the fight on 10 days notice) against a stocky BJJer. The BJJer went for a takedown and copped a knee for his troubles and was out cold. Looking at the replay it looked like he might have had a hand on the ground, was hard to tell but no one mentioned it, was a bit Hmmm for mine.

That DC/Cummins fight was ridiculous. Shame on the UFC for setting that up.

As for the Rousey stoppage, wasn't a fan. Can't we give the fighters a bit of extra time to finish in title matches to avoid the controversy?

Not if they want Ronda to have hold the belt. Really seemed like they took the earliest opportunity stop it.

Also Dana interview on the post event show being smart about cyborg dying from a cut to 135. Ronda is the current female cash cow so no wonder he's deflecting.

By the second 'they' you mean Herb Dean obviously. The use of the word 'they' is good for the conspiracy angle you're seemingly going with though. The stoppage really wasn't that bad, I'd rather he let it go a bit longer though and who knows what would have happened if he did. The stoppage looks far worse than it actually was because of the way he let Waldburger take the beating he took.

Cyborg actually did say she'd die from cutting to 135 previously. There's been opportunities to drop to 135 in the past and she's made excuses. Now all of a sudden she thinks she can make it down to 135.

I really don't think she'll be able to make 135 but I hope she can. It'll be nice to see a couple of cheaters in Belfort and Cyborg get beaten in title fights.

The stoppage was a little early but i honestly think Herbs confidence is a little shaken and he isn't sure when to go (as opposed to the conspiracy theory angle). Also form the front McMann winced pretty bad and dropped pretty quick, she just recovered alot quicker i than Herb (or me for that matter) expected.

I love Rousey and am pretty meh about Cyborg but if Santos makes 135 she would destroy Rousey and probably ruin her career in films too.

I love a good conspiracy theory as much as most, but I didn't think it was an early stoppage. That was a sweet liver shot.. Then she was too hurt from it to protect herself from the headshots, irrespective of the impact of those headshots - she wasn't able to recover in time to protect herself from them. I'd love to see Rhonda lose, but that was pretty comprehensive IMO.

Pretty impressive standup from RR.

I didn't think it was early either, for a moment she was unable to intelligently defend herself so it was fair enough to stop it imo.

UFC just announced they've re-signed Melendez and that he and Pettis will fight in December after coaching the all-women season of TUF.
Just read this, should be a fantastic season! Looking forward to seeing the Roufusport coaches as well as the Stockton crew working with the teams.

Were never gonna let him go.
Agreed. With the matching rights, it seemed an awful lot like an NBA restricted free agency case.

Melendez was bluffing. Deep down I bet he would of hated to go and fight for Bellator.

Ronda is running out of good opponents. Davis will probably be next (I don't think she will be much trouble) and who knows how far Zingano is from fighting.

You would have thought that Melendez has spent a long time wanting to fight in the UFC that he didn't want to walk away from it once he was in. I'm glad that he fought for what he believes that he's worth, every athlete/fighter deserves to do this. I'll watch Gil fight on every card, he's a fun fighter to watch, as is Pettis.

It's a good day for UFC fans.

Would think (assuming Ronda retains the title, of course) they'll go Davis (July), Cyborg (November, or the NYE card), Zingano (March/April 2015).

Exactly. How would we get to see Melendez/Sanchez II if he went to Bellator :D

Dana said at the post fight scrum that Cyborg will not just leap straight into a title shot so if that is the case then that fight probably won't happen until 2015.
