The heavyweight division has been pretty shallow for depth these last few years, he's still top 5 for the division. He might not really deserve a contender fight but there'd be few that would against Mir right now.

What ever happened to Shane Carwin btw?

Cain doesn't deserve a number 1 contender fight. Poor match making from the UFC.
Who else is there? Lesnar was put into a number 1 contender fight after being finished by Cain. Werdum is the only other fighter I can think of who could be in the fight and he lost to Overeem not long ago. Toss up between Cain and Werdum for the spot in the fight. Only other option would be making Mir wait around for ages.

Bigfoot Silva maybe. I just don't like seeing guys given a title eliminator fight immediately after losing the title in devastating fashion.

Fair enough, but Bigfoot just suffered a brutal loss of his own. The JDS/Cain fight was good while it lasted (all 70 odd seconds of it) and Cain has enough runs on the board to jump straight back in to contention IMO. If there were contenders beating down the door it'd be fair enough to move him down a few slots, but there just isn't.

Forgot he lost to Cormier.

I suppose it just highlights how weak the heavyweight division actually is. Sure, there are a tonne of middle-tier, exciting fighters and match ups, but the top 5 is pretty bare.

I can't believe what I am reading -the UFC Heavy Weight division has never been stronger. The top 10 ranked HWs are all under the Zuffa banner.

The card being assembled for UFC 146 looks outstanding.

Well you may as well say the same for Edgar, Lesnar, & Faber.

Edgar has been given a title fight rematch, not a contender fight. Faber beat the next obvious contenders, he was number 1 contender, blame the division.

Lesner fought Mir twice which went 1 and 1, but he never looked out of place in the fight he lost. He got caught by a BJJ guy, the same way someone gets caught by a lucky punch. He also beat Randy Couture and Shane Carwin. The Carwin fight was epic and that was the fight that earned my respect.

You have to remember the time that these events happened, and all of the guys that you mentioned put up a fair argument to be given another title shot, in my opinion.

I'm glad that you clarified that. My question to you would have been, who does deserve a contender fight? Bigfoot, who lost last fight? Werdum who has one win and against iron chin "big Country", but lost to Overeem? Werdum also lost to JDS, the same as Cain, but Velasquez deserves to be on the top of the division.

If Brock was still around, I wonder how the heavyweight division would look, and how the match ups would be handled? Maybe Brock v Werdum and Cain v Mir?

If Cormier was in the UFC, I wonder how that would change the landscape? I think that it's still an interesting division, but I'd love big country to drop down to 205.

Agreed. Card looks pretty damn cool. Title fight should be awesome.

Also, no issue in my mind with Cain getting an eliminator fight on the undercard despite his loss to JDS. Wouldn't be the first fighter to be caught cold early in a fight. It's usually put down to poor pre-fight preparation rather than a gross mismatch in abilities. If he'd gotten pounded for 5 rounds straight it might be a different story. Think Mir will win it, but Cain could surprise.

The Ultimate Fighter 15 is LIVE on FUEL TV tomorrow according to their Facebook. They are sorting out the start time now.

I assume this means it's live each week!

Yeah, that's great news. Hadn't heard anything regarding when it was airing over here. Weird that they only announced it the day before but it being live is awesome. Just checked the Foxtel EPG and it's listed to start at 10am Perth time so that's 1pm over East.

Watching SFL #1 now. Very amateurish so far. They keep showing people in the crowd for 5-10 seconds in the middle of the action, one time the fighter had got the mount position and was landing big strikes then they show the audience. On-screen time clock in a couple of the fights wasn't in sync with the actual time clock.

The show improved after the first few fights. Women's fight was really good with nice back and forth grappling. Bob Sapp didn't tap as early this fight. Thompson got side control and was landing some strikes. Sapp then muscled his way out of that and into side control leading to him landing a couple of big hammer fists. Thompson reversed position and Sapp tapped citing a leg injury. I'm not sure whether or not the injury was legitimate.

They put the entire show up on youtube. Alright for a first up effort but they have a few things to fix for their future shows.
