A quick google search shows that all the talk about GSP going to Lightweight was at the end of 2011. It seems like it all started with Zahabi saying that he'd like to see GSP drop to 155.

http://www.espn.co.uk/ufc/sport/story/118452.html

In this article which is from around that time GSP says it would be easier to go down than up in weight but he doesn't want to drop to Lightweight. Then he says that he might move up to Middleweight at some stage. I think the way he answered it completely rules out him dropping to 155.

There might be a bit of a misunderstanding here.. At the end of the day i'm just playing devils advocate here, I know it's very unlikely to happen so there's not much need to talk any sense into me so to speak. But for the exercise of creating some dream hypotheticals..

According to Ariel Helwani: "the next international season of TUF will be Canada vs. Australia, according to sources. No word on weight, coaches, air date etc".

This could get ugly. How about Australia *coughandNewZealandcough* ?
With the recent wave of New Zealand talent making a name for themselves in the octagon, I'm surprised by the decision too. Canada will likely be light years in front of Australia... NZ seems like a much better match up!

I watched that this morning, along with the pre fight scrum, and I still cant make out Dana's feelings about Bruce Buffer and whether the stories are true

From the scrum:

  • Dana doesnt know how GSP would make 155, but Benson Henderson would love to fight GSP.
  • Jones will probably fight one more time after Chael, if he wins, and then take super fights or move to heavy weight.
  • Mexico, France, Italy and New York are on the radar, but are proving difficult.
  • Fallon Fox is a long way from being in the UFC because he/she hasn't beaten anyone.

Dana and Joe are thinking:

Roy Nelson vs. Cormier
Roy Nelson vs. Hunt if he wins

Anderson called Dana tonight and requested a particular fight, one of Jones or GSP (Dana didn't say). Yes.

Daniel Cormier@dc_mma 8m
Hey @danawhite ur right I think Roy nelson and I would be a damn good fight. How about it @roynelsonmma

Someone mentioned this tweet and Dana says 'there we go'.

Seeing Jones throw Chael around like that doesn't give me much confidence in Anderson being able to do much against Jones.
Anderson's ability to finish is some next level shit, Anderson can finish a fight at any point in a 5 round bout under any circumstance (injured or not, tired or not, on his back or standing). For that reason alone I'd watch the fight.

Spot on. A part of me doesn't want to see it happen as I don't see it ending well for Anderson, but I'd love to see what he has for a hungry young champ like Jones.

Yeah, that's all true. I'd definitely still watch the fight and would really be looking forward to seeing it if it was announced. Part of me posting like that was due to frustration with the fights that day and the football from the night before.

Still, I think Jones wins the fight. Heaps of people seem to be leaning towards seeing Anderson fight Jones rather than GSP lately. I started leaning that way too but now I'm thinking I'd rather see him against GSP.

I have been leaning to Jones simply for the fact it will be much more competitive. Anderson's tdd seems much improved which does not bode well for GSP, GSP's mental lapses during fights where he gets caught (Condit, Diaz) is also ominous for him. Anderson Silva is the best in the UFC at picking and timing shots, he will easily catch GSP in a 5 round fight. So it comes down to the fact GSP has probably 1% chance of beating Silva whereas Silvas probably has 30% chance of beating Jones.
