I'm guessing the payday is huge for all the stuff that he's doing. He was already getting paid well at the UFC.

Shogun vs. Sonnen is the Fox Sport 1 main event.

Faber vs. Alcantara on that same card. Huge step up for Alcantara.

Amanda Nunes vs. Gaff at 163, should be a war.

UFC newcomer Robert Drysdale vs. Ednaldo Oliveira at 163.

This signing interests me a great deal. Will be annoying though with Joe Rogan masterbating at how "high level" and "technical" his jiu jitsu is.

Interesting that they've signed with Bellator. I wouldn't have thought that the tournament format with a very short time between fights should they win would have appealed for them.

Shogun vs Chael
Overeem vs Brown
Faber vs Yuri
Pickett vs McDonald
Alves vs Brown
McGregor vs Ogle
Lauzon vs Johnson
St Preux vs Donovan
Corassani vs Brown
Hall vs Ring

Wow.

McDonald vs Pickett is on the Fox Sports 1 card too. They certainly weren't lying when they said it would be stacked!
Holy shit, that's an amazing fight. Don't want either to lose :(

I can't believe Robert Drysdale has been signed up by the UFC. I knew he was doing a bit of MMA but that's something I never thought i'd see..

Sadly, I can only see him getting KO'd a lot before being dropped. He's not dealing with no namers anymore.

I didn't realise that there's 2 fox sports cards on in feb?

FS 1 card on the 17th August
Interesting note: Uriah Hall v Nick Ring

FS 2 card on the 28th August
Kelvin Gastelum v Paulo Thiago (Kelvin's Welterweight debut).

I was going to criticize the Faber match up with Alcantara because after fighting Jorgensen it is a step back, but other than a rematch with Wineland there isn't anyone else out there.

Batamweight is at a logjam until Cruz & Barao are healthy.

Also Dana said he had 4 options for the main event for FS1 - 1 but Shogun/Sonnen wouldn't have been 1 of them since Shogun was already booked. I wonder why none of the 4 eventuated.

I've got no idea what to expect. He's obviously a great jiu-jitsu player but the rest of his game would be a bit unknown at this stage. He's had 6 fights and won all of them by submission inside of 2 and a half minutes. His striking probably hasn't been tested at all and against tougher opposition takedowns will be harder to get. You could easily be right but I hope he has some impact in the UFC.

That would be UFC on Fox Sports 1: 1 and UFC on Fox Sports 1: 2. That's one annoying naming system.

I like that fight for Gastelum. :thumbsu:

Jesus, the UFC is going mad with fight announcements this week.

Cerrone vs. Dos Anjos for the co-main event at Fox Sports 2.

Whittaker vs. Court McGee at FS2.

Sara McMann vs. Sarah Kaufman at the same event.

Shit, tough opponent for Whittaker, but if he can get a win he'll be getting right up there.

I'm of a different opinion here, i'm actually disappointed with this card.
From the way Dana White was talking about this card being ridiculously good i think its just a standard card.
I would of thought there would of been a major title fight at least instead of a bloody Sonnen/Shogun main event.
They could of had Henderson/Grant at least which they've slated for a week later

I'd rather exciting fighters and great match ups over a title match up. Almost every fight has a fighter that brings it.

First thing I thought too, beats a strong wrestler so give him a better wrestler with solid BJJ.

Court has heavier hands then Colton so Rob's the hand by his side may be a bigger risk. He will have a huge speed advantage though.

I think it's a pretty good card when the main prelim fight is good enough to headline a normal Fuel TV card. The lack of title fights doesn't detract for me, but can see how people would be disappointed if they were expecting that.

I don't know that I'd give Court the wrestling edge over Colton personally, but agree that he has heavier hands and Whitaker's strategy will need to change. Agree on the speed edge and I would expect that his TDD will come from improved footwork this time around rather than the lead hand by the hip strategy.

Really like the Cerrone vs dos Anjos fight of those announced recently. Big step up for Rafael, but I think his wrestling edge could be enough to give him the edge. His kicking game should be good enough to keep things competitive on the feet and he shouldn't have to worry too much about Cerrone's guard.

Love the card.

Lots on the line for Overeem, but he should get it done. Browne is no joke, but you'd like to think Alistair is burning from the Bigfoot shambles and gets it done.

Chael loses that and it's curtains. Hand him the mic and let him to the anchor and special comments when Rogan is out. Actually, have him put a double on Jon Anik and punch holes in his pin head. Put in on a facebook fight. I'd join facebook for that.

Uriah Hall is always interesting.
If you don't watch a Faber fight in HD, you can pretend Justin Bieber is getting hit, which is good.

McGregor, Lauzon, Pickett, Alves.

Card lacks the top star talent end, but is stacked top to bottom I reckon. Exciting.

I'm only going by what Dana came out and said that it was a going to be an outrageous card the best they've done on TV.
Now i'm not saying this ain't a strong card but I've seen plenty of cards so far this year as strong as this if not stronger
In saying all that its probably more Dana's words that makes it lessen it for me the most

Fair call. Dana does have a history of over-hyping things. I love the way he runs his business, but I do block out a lot of his hyperbole.

I personally don't think there's been a free card this good in a long time, probably dating back to the debut on Fox that had the first Junior vs Cain fight but even then the strength of that was based more on one fight (and only one was televised in the US). This card has prelims that would range from main show openers to co-main/main event quality fights... that's where I think the real strength of it lies.

Yeah he does overhype things a fair bit but he is great for the business.
The Bendo/Melendez card was one card i thought was just as good if not better even with the late replacements.
At the end of the day i think the significance of the occassion they should of had a Title fight to headline it, not two guys who are way past their prime in Sonnen/Shogun

In saying all that i am a very hard man to please ha ha

Oh Brian, what were you thinking? Should have won the fight and then gets down for a failed drug test. That'll be a 6-12 month ban you'd think.
That will be retirement I think. After such a ling lay off ane looking like crap, I think he's done unfortunately. I had high hopes for him after the merger, but outside of the Page win he's looked poor in the UFC.
