Who's "everyone"?
And yes he was forced to take the Khamzat fight, even though Khamzat was ranked way low, but then Khamzat got covid.
Leon was ranked 5 in 2020.
Wonderboy was ranked 8 2020.
I wouldn't really expect Leon to go backwards when on a solid winning streak.
At the time Wonderboy was 5, Edwards was 3. Burns was guaranteed a title shot. Colby had beaten Woodly a few weeks earlier.

He was complaining that no one wanted to fight him while he literally had a top 5 guy calling him out.

Ariel said that he turned down 4 different fights in 2020 including short notice against Usman which is fair enough IMO and Geoff Neal

No one wanting to fight him is a load of s**t

So he turned down a few guys that were all ranked below him, and while he was on a solid winning streak?

Bit of recency bias with Leon. This is still his own fault for being so inactive but when he beat RDA it was 'obvious' he was next in line.

8 wins in a row, Cowboy was still ranked, RDA was top 5 from memory, Luque off 4 wins/2 POTN bonuses when he beat him, Gunnar was always highly rated for some reason. It was a solid run, deserving of a shot. People look back now at those fighters' rankings/slides and dismiss what Leon did at the time which isn't correct.

Covid hit, he refused a bunch of fights and people overtook him by staying active. Leon 'probably' does deserve a shot but he shouldn't be mad not getting one when so inactive. Him v Chimaev #1 contender, why not? Big fight, no obvious contender right now. Burns v Wonderboy/Luque and Colby v Mas still works.

Khamzat vs anyone is good, but it's damn risky. Edwards has already earned a crack at either Masvidal or the belt. His best interest would be to do those fights first, and let Khamzat take one or two other fights.

Leon can't be blamed for inactivity..
He was scheduled to fight Woodley in London in march 2020. Close to fight date Woodley wasn't able to travel over. Then no one could travel for a fair while.
Leon was then forced to sign to fight Khamzat for December 2020 but Leon pulled out with covid. It got rebooked for January 2021 but the Khamzat got covid. Then I think it was rebooked again for march but Khamzat had to pull out again due to lingering covid effects.
Leon fought Nate in June. And here we are. Now Masvidal has pulled out.

No one could travel? Lol

Fighters who wanted to fight travelled, those who didn't like Leon didn't travel

Doesn't bother me if he gets the next shot tbh. But if he does Usman is going to have a very easy fight

McGregor posting and then deleting tweets which are apparently skeptical of the vaccines and 'experts'.

Anybody happen to see them before they disappeared?

Not sure. All I know is that he has fought at 145 a few times, but not for a fair while.

Only Lightweight champ. Fought once at Featherweight outside of UFC. First 6 fights in UFC were at Featherweight though, last being in 2016 (Whittaker - Brunson)

Hopefully we leave the political discussion out though, this board has been reasonably good in that regard.

Im all over the COVID boards and have no interest in turning this (awesome thread) into another one but honestly why do so many athletes feel the need to comment on it, theres no mandate in the UFC so if he doesnt wanna get jabbed (pardon the pun) dont.

Or we can be like r/mma which is full of pansies who wanted their daddy government to stop major UFC events from going ahead with crowds.

Not sure how you got that from my post.

Not telling anyone to think one way or the other, just that there's plenty of pandemic/political discussion on other boards and those discussions (like all of them on social media) tend to spiral downwards to circular inane discussion where it's a shitfight with no-one budging on opinion.

That's fair enough.

I would not like to see this place become like r/mma which is soy central these days.

How can a collection of people who enjoy combat sports, many of them training in martial arts themselves, be so soy-based?

It defies logic.

They were attacking Dana White and the UFC for daring to put on events during the pandemic.

And mocking fellow UFC fans for attending in Florida when crowds returned.

What a bunch of brainwashed morons.

He's never made 7 figures?! LOL - that's less on Dana and more on Mir's agent. That's pathetic. Not sure it's even believable tbh

This is also why these new upstart promotions never survive long though. Mir isn't worth that money (he was in his prime), the event won't come close to profit so what do they expect happens here?
