You appear to fundamentally not have grasped what I have been saying. The draft is not the only way to pick up a player. Did we even explore what else was on offer for the 4th pick in the draft? Did we talk to any other clubs about possible trades or was it always going to be used for Carey?

I never actually suggested that we should have used pick 2 or 4 to take Schultz or Minson. I was merely pointing out that some pretty fair players were available in that draft.

And your fundamentally forgetting about the salary cap .......want a player worth giving up a high pick for and you go into the meat market and that costs

Most clubs operate close to full salary cap and the club franchise players who may retire are generally on the veterans list ........this is just one reason why trades are dropping UNLESS a player specifically (Thompson) requests to go home ...

Really, I like Craig's policy of developin our youth, but next year we should throw the kitchen sink at getting a decent forward.

We missed the boat on Pav; I doubt we'll get another crack.

We should try and raid a team like St Kilda or Carlton or Essendon - we've probably got Meeson up our sleeve as trade bait (he'd have to be behind Griff in the pecking order now, and still probably Maric) and give away our picks to get someone decent.

What would it take for Riewoldt?

let's get this straight. you would be willing to trade john meesen AND a second round pick (30 odd) for courtney johns, who most essendon fans want delisted anyway? what in the world is wrong with you?

and no way would carlton give up waite, no way. he's an athletic youngster who can dominate forward and down back. he's as off limits as gibbs is.

Amer - more speculating to get some opinions.

I haven't seen enough of Johns to know his worth at all - but I know he's a massive unit in the forward line. Waite is the same, he'd be of value to any side, but could we have a red hot go at him? What would it take?

To be honest, I think we should look at developing Meeson as a forward as well - if we can keep him. But I wouldn't be surprised if he decides to go home at the end of the year - injuries have limited his opportunities, I think he wants to be here, but he might need a change of scene.

I'm not sure he's had much success up forward for Norwood. I'd like to see Meese and Maric in the ruck and the Griff up forward.

Yea, Griff was originally being groomed as a forward wasn't he?

The possibilty of that excites me - I love seeing the big fella in general play, and he loves having the ball in hand.

They say he's on about $700K now .....now generally you would think that's inflated but IMO the market will push up offers past the $800K mark and .....I think Hay was $300-$350K and Archer would be about the same but is probably on the veterans list ........so that's still just over half of what is required
