just a quick thought.. why is it that judd will be remembered as a better player than swan??????
i really cant be bothered looking up judd's stats but im thinking judds last few yrs werent great 4-5 yrs.
i didnt really monitor swans career early.. so when did he actually start playing at a level that was elite and for how long with the exception of last yr?
so if we were comparing the 2.. just a hunch.. id say swan's career has been a tad better.
and judd robbed swan of a brownlow in 2010 with some mind boggling votes.. ie tagged out of a game by mcphee and getting 2 votes from memory.
There's little doubt that while Judd will be considered by the media and the general football public as an all-time great, this won't happen with our champ, and I think it simply comes down to a (perceived?) lack of polish. Even Swan's running style, which is obviously ungainly, has seemingly convinced some people that he was never that quick. I remember an argument I had a few years back with a couple of (non-Collingwood) people who tried to tell me this, I suggested they needed to watch how he would regularly be able to go from about a yard in front of someone pursuing him, to about five yards after just a few paces.

Just a magnificent player, will always be one of my favourites, and surely belongs in an all-time best Collingwood team.

Swanny is definitely one of Collingwood's GOATs. It's amazing how one average to poor season had him written off. Champs don't go down that quickly and it was clear he wasn't right last year. He's got a couple of more years him at least. I thought for sure Pendles would out-vote him in the Brownlow as I thought he'd had a slightly better year, but the result is a testament to how good he still is. I'd be more than wrapped for him to win another B&F this year but given the Coaches Association team this year I'd say Pendles will win another one.
As much as I love Swanny as a player I love the fact that he's stuck by the club, not a small group or particular coach. He seems to know how much the club has stuck by him and has paid it back ten-fold and not gone and cracked the sads and taken his ball home when things haven't gone his way and regardless of his personal opinions of any individuals.

PS. My favourite all-time Swanny moment is his goal in the 3rd quarter of the 2010 GF replay, as that was the moment I knew we'd won the premiership.

Favourite swanky moment on the field was that Anzac day goal on the outside of his foot after running 50 which iced the game last year
Favourite of field moment was him explaining he had no mates left at the club after beams and heater left and he was interviewing young blokes for suitable candidates
He is gold

I reckon Swan is better than the Carlton version of Judd - even if it was just because of longevity. But Judd, in his pre-OP West Coast days, was a cut above
