Although this isn't AFL, i think the passing of the greatest cricketer ever desereves to be in the most used forum.

RIP, you will be missed greatly.

Very sad news indeed. I never saw any of his innings, but the stats really speak for themselves. Also he used his name to help many many great causes. R.I.P

It is fitting in a country with such a magnificent sporting tradition and some truly great sporting heros, that this man stood head and shoulders above them, not only as a sports person, but as a gentleman.

Most Australians never saw him play. We didn't have to. He will always be, simply, our best.

Sir Donald Bradman, thank you.

Rest In Peace, Sir Donald
You will be remembered not just for your brilliant sporting achievements but for the way you conducted yourself
A true gentleman and a great Australian role model
A great Australian legend

So 1 old guy died, yet 9 people died on Australia's roads the last 3 days fail to get a mention.

Yet this one guy used to belt around a leather ball in a stupid game. Big ****ing deal.

Please refer to what I said in the "RIP Sir Don" thread

Sadly, this magnificent mans achievements are only recognised in the "cricket" countries. I often tell Americans to imagine the greatest player in their various sports (eg Babe Ruth, Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Joe Montana). Then, after they have imagined those great players, I ask them to iamgine someone who was twice as good as those players.

Imagine a Baseballer whose batting average was 0.600 instead of 0.300. Imagine a basketballer who averaged 60ppg instead of 30.

They would say : "It's impossible to average 60 points per game in basketball, and it's impossible to have a 0.600 batting average in baseball.

Well "The Don", was able to achieve these feats (i.e be twice as good as anyone else) in cricket. He was able to be twice as good as the second best batsman. he was truly a freak, and a very noble man. When asked what he wanted to be remembered for, he said : "integrity"

Probably the greatest Australian that ever lived.

Well Dan, his death did make the headlines in the USA papers so he must have had some recognition.
