Do the Media have it reight with the "Geriatric Hawks"?

As a Hawk fan I've been annoyed by the almost constant calls for Hawthorn to drop down the ladder, being too old, etc. Something that isn't aligning to my perception of how the team has played, how little we have relied upon our oldest players, how much of the load is based on the peak-age players (24-28). So I thought I would do some research, based on each individual club's top 10 finishes in their respective Best and Fairests.

After all, who knows better than the teams actual coaches? It brings to light some interesting statistics - statistics which may help to change perceptions of where the different teams are at in the "premiership cycle".

Top 10 B&F Stats by club, sorted by Median. (Why Median? Reduces effect of outliers, like Hodge at Brisbane, Goddard at EFC, etc. It also shows Hawthorn in worse light than by average so cannot accuse me of bias!)

Does this data support how you think your club is situated? What clubs are performing above or below their "age" expectation?

Club (Median, Average, >30, <24)
TOMBSTONE
Carlton (28.9, 27.9, Simpson, Thomas, Rowe, Murphy, Cripps, Curnow, Fisher)

Ah....Oops.

CLIFF-DIVING

North Melbourne (27.5, 27.9, Higgins, Goldstein, Thompson, Dumont)
Geelong (27.5, 27.3, Hawkins, Selwood, Kolodashnij)

Clearly these clubs are the most recent premiers! If not, what are they doing? Tough times loom on the horizon.

WHAT A VIEW!
Richmond (27.3, 27.2, Riewoldt, Edwards, Short)
Sydney (27.2, 27.4, Franklin, Kennedy, McVeigh, Heeney, Hewett)
Hawthorn (27.2, 26.7, NONE, Sicily, Hardwick)

Age group that should be aiming at silverware. Concern if >30 can maintain performances. Big name FA chasers?

PEAKING
West Coast (26.5, 26.8, Hurn, Rioli)
Melbourne (26.4, 26.2, Lewis, Jones, Oliver, Harmes, Brayshaw, Salem)
Essendon (26.0, 26.8, Hooker, Goddard, Merrett, McKenna)

Ideal age group for maximum performance, should be chasing top 4 or better. Look for FAs chasing success to head to clubs in this age group.

CLIMBING

Port Adelaide (25.6, 26.5, Westhoff, Gray, Boak, Byrne-Jones, Houston)
GWS (25.6, 26.3, Shaw, Hopper, Taranto, Kelly)
Fremantle (25.6, 26.2, Mundy, Pearce, Langdon, Ryan)
Gold Coast (25.4, 25.3, Harbrow, Martin, Miller, Weller, Holman)

On the ascent, and should be aiming for finals at least.

BASE CAMP

Adelaide (25.2, 25.2, NONE, Laird, Crouch, Doedee, Milera)
Collingwood (25.1, 25.6, Pendlebury, Maynard, Phillips, De Goey)
St. Kilda (24.8, 25.1, Geary, McKenzie, Steele, Gresham, Billings)

The group is growing up together, the question is - are they good enough to elevate themselves into contention over the coming seasons?

GROUND ZERO

Western Bulldogs (23.4, 23.8, NONE, Hunter, Williams, Bontempelli, Daniel, Dunkley, McLean)
Brisbane (23.2, 25.8, Martin, Hodge, Witherden, Gardiner, Andrews, Berry,McCluggage, Robertston)

Wow. Had no idea Bulldogs were that young. Foundation and competitiveness.

Sets agenda, uses different variables and hopes that nobody notices

The greatest trick the devil ever did was convincing the world their stats meant something

Greycrow you should be celebrating - like Hawthorn your collection of 30+ players have already been transitioned out of key responsibilities - with NONE over 30, you would be expecting the team as a whole to improve from 2018 to 2019, and move up the ladder.

I'd expect us to improve because we have shrugged off the s**t that held us back , not because of age profiles
a better run with injuries will make a big difference for you guys
