It was a "science" back then mate - the US was the inventor of racial hygiene. Have a read of this - very enlightening reading but I am sure you won't be condemning the land of the free and the home of the brave: https://press.princeton.edu/titles/10925.html

Also nice misdirection! I have pointed out to you that their is some Marxist Theorising that did not end in deaths and you give me a ******* lecture on Eugenics!!!! https://edition.cnn.com/2018/10/16/us/eugenics-craze-america-pbs/index.html

What is next your a going to point at your hand and pull a ******* 50 cent piece from behind my ear
Your argument was that there was left wing thinking untainted by the horrors of communism. But those you cited had their own skeletons, eugenics one of many. That great cofounder of the LSE, GBS, was Stalin’s prime example of a useful idiot - and the very first genocide denialist!

That is true. But the Marxist theory they propounded was the democratic path to socialism. Your argument is intellectually dishonest. Anybody who had crap pot views that added to the fund of knowledge can't be trusted. Also straight out of the alt right playbook you are shifting ground..again

and tell me what are we to do with the feeble minded, the Arabs and the Indians?: https://winstonchurchill.org/publications/finest-hour-extras/churchill-and-eugenics-1/

Who are you arguing with? I am not here to defend Churchill.

Although I do note with interest that the modern take of Churchill and FDR being retconned as bad guys, it turns out it takes crypto-fascists to defeat fascists!

No but he had certain views about race purity.. and he was a generation younger that GBS. The very paragon of democracy against tyranny. It's an argument against a view that you can't read Fabian Socialist theory because they were eugenisits

My son just sent me this - he comes across Jordy worshipping clowns at Uni all the time. its instructive as to your conscious or unconscious rhetoric style:

So did Keynes, massive eugenicist and not at all fond of Jews, but apparently his economic system is preferable to those awful Chicago school economists who are the worst thing from academia in 100 years.

So Pump Priming the economy never worked? It worked until Stagflation. You are a ******* absolutist! When did privatisation ever work for the benefit of consumers (particularly in natural monopolies) - and when was the welfare state EVER "the road to serfdom" - it's an lie - a pernicious lie

Privatising airlines worked, didn’t it?

As a student of Fabianism you would know they were initially opposed to the welfare state as well.

Labourism has always been opposed to money for not working.

Airlines..is that the best you can do? Electricity Privitisation and Public Transport have really been a boon for consumers everywhere and lets not forget the free market for correctional services - that has worked a treat

Nice pick up and your fourth misdirection on the Welfare State. Once again can you stop slipping around?

Hayek was a paranoid fantasist that provided an ideological justification for the greatest concentration of wealth ever seen since the robber barons - but hey he just some Austrian Economist right - Clem Ford is a bigger threat to democracy

As a historian, surely an understanding of postmodern readings of history can only broaden your worldview?
I only say unfortunately because it would have been nice to have a choice. Don't get me wrong, I'm not unhappy about the study I ended up having to take - I love playing with ideas and learning new ways of thinking about things. It's also led me to wanting to study some other things down the track.

Can we perhaps not turn this thread into a capitalism / privatisation / Marxism / socialism ****fight? The subject matter in the OP is fairly clear.
Fair enough.
And example of these theories making their way into the public sphere. Of course, the education department is a prime target:

From the article:

the consequence of Lacan’s assertion that the square root of negative one is phallic.

This doesn't seem like such a problem in academia here in Australia, and it really limited to pockets within the higher education system in the USA, but these 'applied postmodernism' ideas certainly make their way out of the universities and into common parlance. I don't want to make it seem like it's a bigger issue than what it is, but the sooner these ideas get exposed for having the rotten core they possess, the better. As they said in their first video - race, gender and all the other topics are well worth studying. The problem is how they are being studied.

It's creeping in here.

All staff at Flinders University would be urged to take “cultural learning” courses about “race, (white) privilege and decolonisation”, under a draft reconciliation action plan that acknowledges the “ongoing sovereignty” of indigenous people.
“We respect and recognise the long-held philosophies, knowledges, research, strengths and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in this country,” the draft says.
Flinders noted its various campus locations operated on indigenous peoples’ traditional lands and waters, and name-checked 14 indigenous groups with “continued responsibility to care for country”.
The university would look into setting up a council of elders “to bring indigenous perspectives to planning and decision-making”. Its human resources field would be scrutinised for unconscious bias or structural discrimination.
The university would hire an indigenous person to deliver “cultural safety training” and local indigenous land owners would be asked for advice on the cultural learning coursework for staff.
University of Melbourne indigenous astronomer Duane Hamacher, who has published a paper with three elders on indigenous observation of stars for calendars and weather forecasts, said the “science of indigenous knowledge” course he had developed at the University of NSW was “rigorous and academically sound”.
Dr Hamacher said he designed the UNSW course to elevate indigenous science to the same level (as Western science) “so the two systems of knowledge can learn and benefit from each other.”
Indigenous people represent 1.3 per cent of students and 1.4 per cent of staff at the university.

1. It’s a complete waste of time.
How much time ya got?
If it's done properly.

There are entire histories of Indigenous people slowly disappearing forever because the stories are no longer being passed down from generation to generation.

Kids are no longer interested.

I'm OK with more Indigenous knowledge being shared at University.

Is your concern that it's all just for show? Pretence that we view the Indigenous as our equals in society?

Ummm, “cultural learning” courses about “race, (white) privilege and decolonisation”, are indoctrination courses.

Australia was always going to be conquered and colonised. Or do people think this continent would have been a fallow wildlife reserve while the rest of the world was putting men on the moon?
