Speak in hushed tones when you take the name of Michael Hedges on your lips.

Arial Boundaries is one of my favorite albums.

Got this album a long time ago and yes it is a good one.

AS I used to play guitar and a lot of my friends were quite good I was introduced to many really good guitarists - there are just so many. The debate on who would be in the top 10 would be endless because the criteria used would vary as well taste (heavy rock, Jazz, blues, etc).

I must say I tend to include guitarists who changed music or at least influenced it heavily - like Hendrix, Beck, Santana, etc. But who can deny Gilmour did not move a generation ?

I first bought Aerial Boundaries for $1:99 on vinyl at Brash's on the Crn of Lt. Malop and Jacobs St around the mid Eighties. A memory of when Brash Suttons existed in Geelong.
Of course, Jacobs St (on the left of screen) does not exist now that the Bay City Plaza has been built over the top.

Exactly. I would have Julian Bream in my top 10 and I am not a great lover of classical music. But I do love all sorts of music genres and Bream's Music of Spain is a magnificent album.

Well I saw Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner back Lou Reed in a "Rock n Roll Animal" performance 30 years ago…….something I will never forget.

Check them out if you don't know them…..up there with the very best.

Will do that Dave. Good to get recommendations like that :thumbsu:

Satriani, Gilmour, and this might shock but Prince all exceptional live guitarists I have seen actually live.
Great at creating atmosphere and theatre which I enjoy particularly as a trait.

I think Steve Vai is the most technically proficient rock guitarist of all time IMO.
Taken it to incredible places but his style may not appeal to everyone.

Opposite McEwans and just along from the Corio theatre . Memories of a long gone Geelong. Got Guitar lessons up the top somewhere.

But I have to ask , as I have just opened he thread up. How has this got anything to do with Walker or Burbs?

I was never a fan of Prince but I liked his videos because he often had a hot Latina babe in them.

But he can play guitar.

The late great Michael Hedges playing the Harp Guitar.
Because it's There.

The girl does a good job of playing a Hedges song.

Mate that is a favourite clip of mine I watch now and then of Prince! Great selection.
Love the song actually as a Beatles fan, and just enjoy the whole ensemble there.

His video "Cream" where he has about 20 women frolicking about is worth a look.
Probably won't link it here!
He is a bit of a funny one too Prince in the sense he has people removing his videos from the net.
He doesn't believe in this new on-line Napster age of stuff for free.
Shame, as he has written stuff that isn't so commercial that he should just be letting out there.

He can play the guitar, and its rumoured he can play about 17 other instruments too.
You wonder sometimes about the myth with these guys, but I have seen recordings of his where there are no other credits for musicians, just him or aliases that I happen to know are just him too. Incredible.

Who are you into yourself Rabbi?

My old man had a crappy SG copy which I tried to play as a kid, but I ended up going down the Fender track when I was able to get into the market myself. Something about the simplicity of the Telecaster and the combination of a Tele with a Twin Reverb.

I spend about 50% of my playing time on a Martin acoustic and the rest split between my electrics.
I tend to go to the acoustic for writing songs and the electric to flesh out a song, although it varies.

Recently, I had a weak moment and ordered this guitar from GuitarFetish in the US, which is put together in China to the specs of the US company. I am actually really happy with it, and the P90s offer me something different from my Tele and Strat. I always wanted a Surf guitar!

Next up is something with twin humbuckers, possibly a Gibson. Maybe an SG to complete the circle :-)

You guys ever played the epiphone les paul jar?

Anything really. I like stuff from rock to classical. i.e from Black Sabbath to Julian Bream.

So I will have stuff like Windam Hill samplers and Michael Hedges' Ariel Boundaries to popular stuff.
Love 60's stuff and Sinatra, Amy Winehouse, Vince Jones, Pearl Jam, Metallica, Billy Joel, Dylan, Clapton, Paco Pena, Al Dimeola (Friday Night in San Fran & Passion Grace & Fire) a must have IMHO. Nick Cave, Purple, the Loved Ones, The Zombies, Blood Sweat and Tears, Creedence, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd. You name it. And I bought a lot of instrumental stuff in the 80's. I was into Sheffield Masters, Delos and GRP labels because of the quality of the recordings. So the artist did not matter. I bought'em. From Mavis Rivers, Thelma Houston (vocal) to Kevin Eubanks and Lee Ritenour on Electric Guitar to Jay Hoggard on an Musser M-55 acoustic Vibraphone, Dave Grusin Piano/Key board, David Sanborn on Sax, James Newton Howard. The Sheffield Track Record and Drum Record were good as well as being good to test HI-FI components.

It's all about the vibe/mood and the music to suit it.

No, I haven't. I just have an Epi Les Paul Ultra as my only electric. Being poor sucks.

hate Marshall myself, ridiculously overrated stale sounding amplifiers.
Terrific if you wanna add the whole foot pedal range to your setup but in terms of sound, you can get just as good a sound from the of the lesser know brands and a good 4x12 combo.

Been through stacks of amps and guitars myself, I tried to copy my favourite shredders (failed miserably) so preferred the Jacksons, Ibanez's etc and surprisingly, the best sounding guitar I ever played was some PRS hollowbody which had this sustain which literally sang, never come across anything like it.
Unfortunately had to sell it to make some money.

...all this talk of guitars making wish I was still playing :(
I've had a few different amps, Peavey amps and I think a Laney head and quad box. I eventually bought a 30th anniversary 3 channel Marshall, same as what Adrian Smith from Iron Maiden uses. I swear by it, it's beautiful. Good clean sound and great dirty tone. Has a built in power break so you can crank the dirty channel to ten and have the overall volume on 2 or 3.

This is a music thread. Are you going to tell me that you have never heard of the Burbs or T-Bone Walker?

Have you guys ever seen this guy?
I think he's 17 now. But he started doing these arrangements when he was 11.

Wait till this song gets half way through. wow.

Gibsons though, guess they are an acquired taste, just found them to be too bulky...like holding a baseball bat which is why the PRS was a surprise as access from frets 12 and higher was a charm and like holding a jem.

I still get a kick out of letting friends and other guitar players pick up my Les Paul and watching their shoulder drop about a foot to one side. It does weigh a bit. On the other hand my SG is light as a feather - no wonder so many like them.

Yep, a young fella who was my guitar tutor for while asked me if I still had "that great hunk of lead for a guitar".

Mind you, if I was financial and was accomplished with the guitar, I would not mind a nice Gibo ES335. But unfortunately I am neither of the above. Part of the problem is I spend far too much time on BF instead of hanging off the guitar.

I've been getting the acoustic out recently, but yeah need to take the electrics out for a good run soon. I got a dobro not too long ago which I quite enjoy as well. Different style and all that.
