I started gym 2.5 years ago weighing 140 kgs i joined a gym that was not one of the chain gyms. I have dropped down to 115kg now still wanna get down to 95 kgs. I like this gym due to its full of try hard meat heads who try to act like bodybuilders when they aint.

This could be any of the gyms.
Apart from my work gym, I frequent Snap Fitness, which is in my area, although I'm unsure about the Doncaster region.

Yep always count the bar. If you do sets of 8 with 55kg, your one-rep-max would be around 75kg, so don't be too surprised you were able to get the 70kg off your chest :). Hi-rep training (8-12) is more about targeting muscle growth, but lower reps (3-5) at higher weights builds strength more than actually increasing muscle size. Strength is more about training your brain and nervous system to more effectively use the muscle it already has, rather than growing extra muscle. Players like Brad Hill or Lewis Jetta don't look any bigger than your average untrained joe in terms of muscle size, but you can bet they are a hell of a lot stronger.

Top post mate. Sums it up very simply for those who are starting out.

The amount of extremely self-indulgent flogs that I know that live in the gym and give shit to anyone who isn't 'shredded' has turned me off signing up. I'm a naturally skinny bloke, I'll live with that.

I haven't really come across too many gym-junkies giving flak to people being skinny. I was a pretty ecto teen, would've been struggling to be 65-70kg at 187cm (although that sounds heavy compared to what others have said), and almost always the skinniest guy in the gym when I started out. Everyone starts from the bottom - if anyone pretends otherwise they must be a major tosser.

Easy kill - (pointing at them) "So you looked that way the first day you stepped into a gym, did you?"
