Well, if you'll be using CAD then it'll be worth your time to get a graphics card. Whilst you could probably run it off the onboard graphics which are built into the motherboard, you'll notice a huge boost in performance with the separate graphics card. Plus, if you wanted to play some basic games, you'd be sorted.
 
I reckon I might hold off on that part until I start using CAD/get a job where I actually get given shifts (turns out if you want a month off work, bailing from a shift on a busy night so you can speak at a close mate's 21st is a good way to go about it).

So tweaking your suggestion slightly:

CPU: Intel i3-2120 (LGA 1155) $120
MOTHERBOARD: ASUS P8B75-M $75
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB $69
SSD: Samsung 830 Series 128GB $94
DVD BURNER: LG DVD Burner $29
RAM: Corsair 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 $45
CASE: Cooler Master CM Storm 2 $110
POWER SUPPLY: Corsair CX500 V3 $79 (*for example)

TOTAL: $621

Wow, that's actually not a bad motherboard for the price. If you're using a full HD monitor, then DVI or HDMI being supported is a massive bonus for you. Cheap cables, too.

You can probably cut the SSD in half. Windows takes up about 15gb, what else are you planning on having there?

That case is also overkill, and starting to look better on the PSU, with no GPU I doubt you'll need 500W. Could get a case with a PSU built in.

Another $150 to be cut off I reckon.

In case you haven't guessed I'm a big fan of getting cheap stuff. PC's move so quickly it's not worth it imo.

MSY has a 60gb SSD for 40 and a cases w/ PSU for ~50. Although be warned some in built PSU's can be shit, but it really shouldn't be much of a worry with the setup you've got going.

You can also get CPU's w/ GPU's in them these days. Might save you an upgrade later down the track.

And jesus just looked at that case, it's huge!

.... Just so happens I have one of the biggest cases on the planet. Yes, I am compensating.

It's difficult to buy a budget PC and have it being continuously decent for a long period of time...

I'm very much liking this thread. Have been meaning to build a new box for a while now but can never get past doing the research to find the "sweet spot" components/pricewise.

That build was for today only. Will need to begin the research again completely if you didn't buy today, as EVERYTHING would have changed.
