He's never played a test there. IIRC his FC record at the top is pretty good, but not as good as at #3
Was more suggesting his FC career as an opener isnt all that crash got either.

FWIW, M.Marsh should be the vulnerable one, wickets or not, he's doing nothing with the bat and he isn't/should not be considered amongst the best 4/5 bowlers in the country.

He hasn't had much of an opportunity to establish himself as a batsman outside of Adelaide 2nd dig, where he did a good job.

Well, their opponent's competency at Test level is, sadly, taking the piss, so...

Also, Brendon McCullum retired this morning. Not effective immediate, but after our series over there in February.

That's another reason why I can't fathom Shaun Masrsh's sudden resurrection against a barely Nar Nar Goon West 3rd XI standard when discussing whether to drop he or Burns for Khawaja.

Love the way McCullum goes about his cricket. No fuss cricket.

Don't know what the "official" ICC test team of the year was but for me it'd be:

1. Cook
2. Warner
3. Williamson
4. Smith
5. Root
6. Matthews
7. Chandimal (+)
8. Broad
9. Starc
10. Shah
11. Anderson

Not too far off the mark actually.
ODI and T20I for the hell of it as well:

Guptill
Amla
Williamson
De Villiers (c, +)
Taylor
Williams
Elliott
Starc
Boult
Finn
Tahir

Actually, No T20, google isn't letting me find the runs/wickets for the year

for the love of god stop talking about slightly different batting positions as if they're a big deal

Yes, cricket can throw up some of the most nonsensical dogma as though it is truth. It makes religion look scientific.

Every second innings #3 plays he is effectively opening.

This test series is an appalling preparation for the tests in New Zealand.

You cannot get away "forcing the ball on the up" when batting on greenish pitches in condition conducing to swinging the ball, especially where the opposition attack has the skill to move the ball.

I watch guys like Smith and Warner, in particular, and wonder what it would have looked like even just 10 to 20 years ago (you don't need to go back to the 70s and 80s West Indies sides to find an era in which there were 3 or 4 genuinely high class fast bowling attacks in World Cricket).

You would not get away with this shit against Akram, Younis, Ambrose, Bishop, Walsh, Pollock and Donald to name a few of the guns off the top of my head.

BBL wise, the Tunder are favourites for me. An attack of Russell, Sandhu, McKay, Kallis, Watson, Ahmed and Green is nothing to sneeze at. Would prefer a better 2nd spinner but otherwise...
