Going to Austria, Ireland and Northern Norway from early December to mid January to visit family from both sides me(Austrian) gf(Norwegian). Stopping at Ireland for a party week in between.
Never really traveled to Europe during winter and I would like to pack light, how can this be achieved?
Go with buying something when you get over there. That way what you buy will be more suited to a European winter. That was my thoughts when I went to europe. Then when I picked something up in a shop in Berlin I was surprised to see a familiar triangular tag "made in Australia". Didn't even know they had Cotton On stores until I was standing in the middle of one.

I was in Prague today and had to do a double take. Turns out it was for a movie. 20180927_172020.jpg

At the airport waiting to leave Seattle. It really is a great city, I’d go as far to say it would the city I’d move to if given the choice. As far as tourism goes, it’s not a place to spend a lot of time. The foodie scene is great though. I know Pike Place Market cops a fair bit of criticism for being touristy, but who cares? The food is great and you don’t need to watch blokes toss fish to each other. Here are a couple of my favourite pics. I got super lucky with weather; 4 days here and only had a couple of hours of overcast weather.

If you look closely in the last pic you can see Mount Rainier, a relatively rare sight due to the usual poor weather.

The people are amazingly friendly and it is a great place for kids. Our flights to Samui were only marginally more than flights to Cairns!

Koh Samui elephant sanctuary. We were able to hand feed elephants and walk in with them while they interacted with each other, took a mud-bath etc. These elephants had been saved from various torturous lives where they had been mistreated and made to perform. The elephant in this photo weighed a whopping 3 tonnes and was a gentle old girl who was blind in her left eye after an angry handler hit it in the eye with a sling shot. She looks smaller but at this point we are “making friends with the elephants” on a raised platform before entering the enclosure. We had to be careful around her as she could not see along her left side.
This was a highlight of the trip! 39005F4C-EC52-43F0-8450-234E41B06409.jpeg

DERO are ever not on holiday somewhere??
I’ve caught the travel bug! After 13 years building my business , taking very little leave and burning myself out in the process I decided that I needed to square the ledger a bit for my own mental health. Travelling has helped immensely!

I still have 10 days in NZ (South Island) over Christmas to come, possibly a trip to Sacramento through my wife’s business in April and Kokoda in July! (All depending on where I am
at with the sale of my business/ employment).

Despite all of this, I still will not have averaged 4 weeks a year of leave over the last 13-14 years and certainly no long service leave. I figure life is too short and I will be 40 next year which means if I don’t get out and do these things now, I may not be able to in another decade.

Get to Patagonia and hike DERO. You will love it.

Obviously I am biased but eight months after I was forced to return to reality from there, I still find myself daydreaming about it regularly. Just breathtakingly beautiful and a part of the world that everyone should see in their lives.

I have seen some breathtaking photos of Patagonia! High on the list.

My next dream holiday (probably won’t happen) is to live on a boat diving through the Similan/ Surin islands which are to the West of Koh Lak in Thailand. Manta Rays, Leopard Sharks and if you are lucky, a whale-shark amongst some of the best diving and beaches in the world. 8-10 day trip.

I've been to 40 countries. I reckon Romania is just about my favourite.

Sitting at LAX waiting to get on my flight back to Melbourne. One big Melbourne family in the waiting area. I know this because they are talking really loudly, being obnoxious and most of them are wearing Melbourne Victory tops. My god I hope they’re not near me on the plane.

Ps. Here are some pics from Chicago.

Great pics. Chicago is on my wish list. Daughter arrived back from LAX this morning, having left on Monday morning for a day's work on Tuesday. Was not pleased to learn, an hour ago, that she might need to be in Paris by next Weds.

nice! i’m going to chicago for a work in a few weeks. i’ll have to look for that mirrored blob thing!

I thought so, but not in a bad way. I asked wifey a while ago should we get a new digital slr before traveling and to my surprise she was like nuh. Phone's good enough these days. What kind of phone have you got?

Samsung 8. I find it good enough for my purposes.

It’s easy to find if you’re downtown. Just look for Millenium Park. It’s so easy to lose hours in there, it’s such a cool place.
