Has anyone been to Phoenix, Arizona, and if so have any suggestions on what to see and do, where to eat, etc, on a very limited timeframe? Also interested to hear any recommendations about connecting flights from LAX to Phoenix as we have only booked flights in and are still trying to work everything out.

The drive from LA to Phoenix is pretty boring, notwithstanding the opportunity to listen to the Glen Campbell song as you drive into Phoenix. From Phoenix, I would drive up through Sedona to the Grand Canyon. It would be a long day if you drove back as well but those landscapes are awesome.

Staying in Phoenix for four nights. My wife has a conference so I am tagging along. No kids and the days to myself! I am really keen to see some desert scenery. Maybe get a car in Phoenix or should I try to jump on a tour-bus?

Tour buses can be informative but I prefer to drive then you can go where you want and see what you want. I would definitely fly to Phoenix from LAX and then drive out from Phoenix for a day or two. Also, it would be easy and fun to spend a couple of days just wandering around downtown Phoenix.

My niece and nephew and niece's boyfriend are in Vegas now, staying close enough to have heard the shooting. They're safe in their hotel room but shocked at how close they were to the carnage and hoping they can still get out today as planned. Feeling lucky but also shocked. Only half way through my niece's 30th birthday trip, she's badly shaken.

I guess the next step would be a comparison of violent crimes.

As for Phoenix, they have a few nature preserves with fantastic hiking. I’m not sure if the Arizona Coyotes have any home preseason hockey games... if they do, I recommend catching one. They’re arena is pretty fantastic and has great food in the area.

Ok.

Looking at going to NZ with my better half. I have zero idea about where exactly to go. Anyone have any suggestions on how to best spend 7-10 days over there? Keeping in mind I'm unable to bungee jump, sky dive etc if I want to keep walking after doing it.
