Now let's see if the muck-raking media monoliths report that with the same vigour the pursued Tom.

Oooh look there's a unicorn.

Tom chose the 'Help a Sore Loser Foundation' hopefully. They've been really struggling to help all Norf players, coaches and supporters recently.

Come on guys, Rockcliff has a history of short fuses, he dropped the f bomb in the after march interview with Ling as well. There's no doubt in my mind he said it, it's in line with what appears to be his character looking in from the outside. Not the type of character I want leading our club. From my perspective I hope the club decides he needs to cool his heals and mature for a bit and give Richy the captaincy after Jed. If he calms down then they can do what the Hawks did with Hodge and Mitchell.
Haha this joker is back at it again. Him and his boiii richy.

Can I ask a few questions to the people who are railing against sledging? These questions may seem facetious, but they are not intended to be. I am sincerely curious about the concept/objection.

If I sledge my opponent with an insult that clearly isn't true, such as 'get off me you fat piece of...' when he is quite skinny and not fecal matter. Is that vilification of fat people everywhere? Even though none of them heard it, and it wasn't directed at them, and it was obviously not true in the case of the person I did say it to.

Or is it just vilification if I use a term that is related to a group who people already perceive as victimised or in the minority?

Is it vilification if the gentleman who is sitting on me is actually overwight? Or is it just an accurate descriptor? And if he isn't offended by it in anyway shape or form is it still vilification at all?

What about if he's fallen on my back and is lying on me in a manner than could be mistaken as an unwelcome sexual advance which I do not appreciate, is calling him a homosexual in that context vilification? What if off field that same gentlemen and I are acquaintances and I happen to know he is indeed homosexual (which there is nothing wrong with), and which he is proud of. Is it still vilification? Or an accurate descriptor.

And then how about we take homosexuality out of it. If I was playing a mixed sport and a I fell on the back of a member of the opposite sex and she told me to 'get off me you creep' is she vilifying creeps everywhere? Men everywhere? Where does it stop?

What if the things that are said during contact sport are said in the heat of the moment, often after some kind of physical contest and confrontation, and that any attempt to apply political correctness to such an environment is futile because higher reasoning takes a back seat during such contests?

You for real or what?

And now you're just making yourself sound like some men's right activist wanting to use appallingly derogatory terms under the guise of "It's alright boys, we're on a footy field!"

Yeah I'm serious. Because I understand the goodness or advantages of political correctness in social situations and general conduct. But I struggle with the expectation of it in stressful/difficult/challenging situations.

There's lots of things you do on a football field that you'd never do in day to day life (tackle, bump, push etc). So is this another one of those?

Well, that should be the end of that ridiculous farce.

For now, but I have a very strong hunch that Rocky is going to average 35+ disposals and 8 tackles a game vs Norf for the rest of his career.

Here's my golden rule, don't use terms that have been used to belittle people based on their race, gender or sexual orientation for decades, no matter the setting. Wouldn't be that hard you'd think.

I agree but the f----tt word would probably get used in most work places so in the heat of the moment you can't be too harsh on someone who uses it.

Let's move on. I suspect bar a momentary rush of fight or flight post-siren euphoric adrenalin, Rocky has a similar view.

Maybe if you work in a UK pork production factory.

Bit tough on Rocky, the man has plenty of passion for the club, i'd make him captain next year. We need tough, hard nuts, look at our premiership years brutality across the board, go hard at them Rocky, he apologized for the swear word and what he said to Harvey......job done move on.

Yeah bit different from what Karix is saying there TBD.

What I don't get is why Brad Scott is not also apologising. Hopefully the AFL counselled him about his actions which could have resulted in a far more serious incident if Rocky or indeed one of his teammates took issue with it at the time.

Spot on Tairy.

It's important not to make more of this Rockliff incident than we should.

But it's more important not to use it justify some of the crappy behaviour towards people that are a bit different that's gone on since forever.

I still find it offensive that Harvey found a middle ground.
He either genuinely found it offensive (not just because it was aimed at him) or he took it as aggressive poor sportsmanship.
If it was said as rumoured, and he finds it offensive generally, then he should have made a direct complaint to the AFL (maybe he did) and should not be satisfied with a token $1000 fine and nor should he be happy that it hasn't been clearly publicised, what the offence was. Surely he should take a stand and bring attention to the issue. If Tom said what is rumoured, then a steeper fine is probably more appropriate and the issue should be addressed instead of swept under the carpet.
If Harvey was just upset because some poor sportsmanship was levelled at him, then he should have shut his mouth and left it out there. If he didn't find the term (alleged) truly offensive for the reasons it should, then he is just using it as an excuse for his and Brad's behaviour.

Either way, I'm not sure the right outcome or message has been sent.
