It could be worse. We could be Carlton.
No you couldn't.

For that you'd need a long history steeped in tradition; as opposed to being around barely long enough to develop a few bad habits.
You'd need a deeply loyal supporter base spanning generations; as opposed to a mixture of fair weather bandwagoners and labradors.
You'd need a home ; as opposed to shopping yourself around like a couch surfing crack whore.

With time and application these things might possibly be remedied I suppose.

But the reason you could not be Carlton, ever, is you are not Big 4. And you never, ever will be.

So probably best to stay what you are. A soulless, heartless, homeless expansion club.

That you're shit and have been for a long time?

That cheating no longer wins you flags?

Yep, point proven. :thumbsu:
I wouldn't expect you to have the faintest understanding.

You think 2008 is recent and 1995 ancient. Whereas for the grand old clubs both periods are no more than a blip in time.

You think your 10 year shitfight with Geelong and Sydney constitutes a rivalry. How cute. If it goes on for another 90 or so it might actually be a rivalry.

Not your fault, it's the way expansion clubs think.

Those other rivalries you're talking of no longer exist. That's why Eddie McGuire has to get desperate and promote the possibility of player brawls to get people watching.

In the period since 1997 only 5 teams have crowd totals higher than 9 million.

Four of that five are Carlton, Collingwood, Richmond and Essendon. The fifth is Adelaide.

In the same year period, ONLY ONE of the top 15 home and away crowds has involved any other team - Geelong vs Collingwood, 2010.

That's right. Of the 30 competing teams in the 15 top drawing games of the last 20 years, 29 spots are taken by the traditional rivalries you claim no longer exist.

Crowd numbers are a poor metric for legitimate feeling between two clubs.

Far better than wild claims pulled out of your arse are.

There is no better measure of rivalry than the fans coming out in droves regardless of how the teams involved are travelling at the time.

But I don't expect you to understand great rivalries. You have no experience of them.

Crowds generally come out for the bigger clubs, and that's what your stats show.

There aren't any long standing Victorian rivalries anymore, that's all media trying to invoke the past and a game or comp that no longer exists to drum up some sentiment for two clubs that serve up the same culture, home ground and matchday experience.

Gotta admit, that’s pretty compelling logic.

A paradigm beyond your ken.
You will have to forgive me Laflog, I've only ever known a cheating or completely shit Carlton side. Can you enlighten us all on the other blockbusters with your rivals, I can only recall the embarrassing season openers.

Im obviously a bit older than you as I remember a time when Carlton were good.
And Laphroaig being a touch older than myself remembers a time when they were VERY good.
In fact he could honestly say without exaggeration that during his time on this planet the Carlton football club has been the most feared, the most lauded, and by far the most successful team...

If not for Hawthorn.

So he is 100% right, poor Hawthorn has no rivals.

It was actually a master move by Hodge.

Knowing as he does that Burton is worse than zero without a filthy rotten sniper holding his dick, Hodge ran around all day screaming:

SPUD IT UP BURTON
OUT ON THE FULL BURTON
TURNOVER BURTON
SHIT MOUSTACHE BURTON
Youre not a very good lip reader. Im sure he was singing a song about being glad about not going to Carlton.
