The Hawthorn 3peat: is it an accident of history?

That data goes against the myth that our 2017 premiership side is the weakest in history, and that we only won due to the two new teams diluting the draft. Who needs facts though?

Don’t know about the team versus others, but the data clearly shows it was the most even, toughest season for many years.

Lol one of my favourite threads.

The only accident in history from the compromised drafts was one team going down the jabby jab path whilst another traded its way to a 3peat.
Most influential trade was getting Burgoyne by off loading Williams to the Bombers and them passing on pick 16 to Port. Genius move. They could have got Fyfe with that pick lol and I think Williams went on to kick something like 5 goals.

Or you could read* just an incredibly well researched and detailed piece of research by a non Essendon supporter.

According to Bigfooty Hawthorn's flags were an accident of history, the Dogs only won 2016 because of a week off that all finalists had and Richmond only won because the grand final was played at the same ground as the last 120 years. I guess Sydney only won because of cap concessions so the last worthy premier was Geelong? Or does that not count because they were lucky with some father sons?

"accident" means:

"an undesirable or unfortunate happening that occurs unintentionally and usually results in harm, injury, damage, or loss"

No wonder there are so many Essendon supporters on here arguing in the affirmative.
and accident of history is a very different concept to an accident in the general sense, please

Interesting to hear Andrew Demetriou on Whateley this morning confirmed he personally agrees with this thread, when he said that it was very interesting and no coincidence that as soon as the effects of the "tainted" (his words) drafts had worked their way through the system that the teams who won flags were the Dogs and Tigers.

Thanks for your support Andrew :thumbsu:

No better evidence of this threads accuracy than the past two premiers.

In a compromised comp, the same teams win.

In a genuine even comp, anyone can win.

It’s not rocket surgery
yep, I had the insight and courage to make this thread in 2016, before this irrefutable evidence had arrived, and back when the Hawks were in fact still the reigning premiers. It's been interesting to study the confirmation of a thesis in real time, I must say

Was that the same time that Garry Lyon called the Hawks the greatest team of the modern era this morning?

He also shagged his best mates missus, so ya know...

well no, since Garry does the show before Whateley.

In any case, the Hawks were one of if not the greatest team of the modern era. They took full advantage of the accident of history they were gifted and made hay. Doubt anyone could argue against that

No cause can you actually dig yourself out of a hole?

I think it means that Essendon supporters are a bit gullible.
You dig sideways and create steps to dig your way out of a hole. Like a Hawthorn fan unable to refute the fact their team got lucky and instead debating the meaning of words they think they know. Keep digging sideways mate.

So the ability to make hay is what makes us great?

I don't think it should be argued that Hawthorn winning 3 in a row was an accident of history, more that it was an accident of history that the Essendon team of 1999 - 2001 only won one.

OH NO we have been bamboozled

That is what doesn't make sense:

All of our truly great players came to us in the Mid 2000s.....

We beat the GREAT GREAT Geelong of 2008 with those players....

......then we got better by very very smart recruiting.... not by draft picks.

And we lost the GREATEST player of the last 18 years in Buddy for nothing!

So how many GF's would he have won if not for the so called "accident of history"????

1? 2? 3?

What is all this about? We should have only a 2peat instead of a 3peat?????

Lay it out clearly!

You really need to go read the thread.

Literally every point you just made was refuted.

You are the one's who fell for it into the hole and began debating yourself out of it....

take a look in the mirror.

Have read it...

Should not have asked that question, except that the same ridiculous claims keep repeating without any substance.
