A Leon Cameron / Alan Richardson combo would be nice. Cameron is as experienced an assistant coach as you will get, and from many reports does a great deal of the hands on coaching anyway.

Just on Alan Richardson, wikipedia is telling me he is Matthew Richardson's dad?!? What the
Different Alan!

Hmmm I thought Hawks 2004 were in a bit of trouble with disenchanted supporters, a CEO who quit meaning Dunstall had to fill in the pieces.

From their depths they set a membership target, players tanked and they were on their way. I can't be bother searching but it could have been a year earlier I guess.

Could Wallace have not picked Franklin as he had big RICHO!!!!
Never said Hawks were perfect in 2004 just what were the differences were. They had a lot more stable base than us. Like us they had a dub coach in Schwabb. They had hit rock bottom with many of their stars gone and they had lost of list cloggers. They had their worst season in 40 years and were going to go in major rebuild mode. But at least the 2 previous years they had won 10 and 11 games and 3 years earlier had made the PF. They were in a shit load better shape than us and could afford to look a longer term view than us and experiment with an untried coach at AFL, but he had at least coached his own side at Werribee and Central Districts.

I don't think the Hawks tanked - not Carlton or Melbourne style. They sacked Schwabb and gave Donald McDonald 5 or 6 games as coach to see how good he was.

Also in the 2004 draft they got picks 2 and 5 and traded away for pick 7. Thats something not on our horizon.

Another positive on Cameron is that as a footballer, he was amongst the most skilful.

It was often mentioned by all and sundry back in his playing days how ambidextrous he was and without Googling, I can't remember whether he was left or right side dominant he was that proficient on both sides

He would've been the perfect coach to tutor J Mac :-( , but there are plenty of other midfielders on our list that require this skill (eg Hartlett, Wingard).

Good tactician, an assistant in winning organisations, a possible ability to increase our disposal skill level, sounding very very positive for our football club if he is the chosen man to take our club forward.

Far more experienced, far better football brain, success follows him.....he comes with huge wraps.

Let's face it, nobody but Primus and those closest to him knew he even had designs on a senior coaching job until he put his hand up out of the blue. Cameron seems to have been anointed or destined since day one to some day take charge somewhere.
Not sure about the 'success follows him' line. Depends on your definition of success I suppose. He played 250 odd games and has coached for 10 years yet this Saturday will be the first GF he has experienced.

He has been involved in the Prelims for 5 consecutive years though. That's relatively successful. Not to mention that as of Saturday afternoon he will most probably be a premiership assistant.

And he played in those losing Bulldogs prelims too, so we know he hates the Crows.

For me, a big concern is that guys like Eade or Wallace, I don't know if they have that burning in the guts to get to the top any more. I expect Cameron does.

Why isn't Rodney Eade's own words enough?
He's never actually said "I'm not coaching them" publicly though has he? It was the each-way bet of "my focus is on Collingwood" and whatever may or may not've been said via Gary Pert.

He did last night. Said he spoke to KT last week and ruled himself out the next day.

"I don’t know whether I was really in (for the job),’’ Eade told SEN radio.

"I only had the one conversation with Keith Thomas and that was just for an hour or so. He was very impressive but I think it was more of a toe in the water conversation with myself and the next morning I said no, I’m not in for it and that was it.

" …The vision he (Thomas) had, (for the club) they’ve got some balls in the air as far as their future (is concerned) and if those things come off, I think it’ll be an exciting place to be involved with.

"With the job I’ve got I’m enjoying that, the family - I’ve got a girl going into Year 10 - so just the move, I’ve already moved once obviously to Sydney, so just for family reasons I thought it was best I stayed here (in) Melbourne.’’
