Hows every one feeling about the expectations the club promoting?

" Looking forward to 2012" Dimma

with a new ambitious Logo and football out look do you think we have the goods to do what we want next year?

How would you feel if we lost to the blues by 100 points aka the FTF game :(

could we be setting up for a false dawn again?

Me, i am all for teh new logo and ambitious goals for 2012 as long as we can back it up :thumbsu:

Things would have to go pear shaped for this to be a false dawn I would think.

Coach and CEO are all class. We have state of the art training facilities. FTF will serve its purpose and most of all we have a crop of kids who will be excellent AFL footballers.

Cotch, Dusty, JR, Lids, Rance, Vickery, Conca, Grimes, Conca, Batchelor, Nahas, Foley, Houli should all play regular finals series in the next few years to get this club back to where it belongs on and off the field.

Really does feel like something is stirring at Tigerland. People still laugh and mock us which is fair enough considering our recent history and they obviously aren't as informed on all things RFC as we are (same with us and their clubs). But all the better. We'll pounce and heads will turn. Too many cases of the 'boy who cried wolf' over the past couple decades but I really feel this is it. We're coming :D

I am over hype at RFC.. Whilst things are looking like they are trending upwards, don't tell us anymore.. Show us!!

If you listen to what the club is saying, there isn't much hype. It's more about being on the right track, knowing what we need to do and making sure we do the right things.

It's the media and fans who are turning those messages into hype.

I hear you mate.. I still maintain my sentiment of let's see the change ON the ground..

dont think its hype. i think we have the talent on the field to move forward and are getting a good mix of talent off field. heading in the right direction.

Correct but... how is this different to the late 90's to 00's ?

If anything the hype is coming from opposition supporters. When was the last time that opposition supporters openly said we have a young developing midfield that will be very exciting to watch. We are confident that the corner is being turned but we have been through that all before so we are not hyping it up at all.

Richo has finally retired.

No, it's our supporters as well. You just have to remember the over reactions by RFC supporters when we had our mid-season slump. There were many "sack hardwick" calls.

I'm so glad Richmond sold Home games last year to gather 2 losses then spent the money on some 'Brand Experts' who would have charged us a bomb, who then presented us in meetings with what looked like a paste up primary school project, just so we would fall for a logo that looks like the hood badge of a car collaboration between a crappy Korean & Russian car manufacturer.

The Home of the RFC Club now looks like a wasp massacre and now we have another "new direction" from the club with a poorly drawn, clipart-like Tiger.

Gale keeps pumping down our throats that we are heading in a new direction. The presumption is that this new direction is heading for success. How the heck would Gale know? Bewildering change like the new rooms and this recent, ridiculous expensive branding does not make for a successful future.

I'd rather the club play HOME GAMES AT HOME instead of crying 'poor' all the time and asking us to give extra money for a fighting fund so the club can pay that out on a poorly drawn and designed version of our already better, existing logo.

I'm over the hype. the 'future is bright' bs, "we need to get the finances right" bs, and change for change sake......just win enough games to make the Finals next year.

No more changes Benny. It's all hollow. Cut the crap. JUST WIN GAMES IN 2012.

Im guessing you will never run a large company and comprehend there is more to business than opening the shop door each morning.

You like your footy club simple: thats sweet: but dont roll about revelling in your naivety and dress it up as an insight. Ben and the Club are shifting mountains just to get this club move an inch from the entrenched mire we have been wallowing in for 30 years and that requires every tool at their disposal. Just opening the front door and saying 'eat em alive' hasnt worked since GR moved on.

I agree with posts above.. there is no hype from the club: what there is is a steady, consistent message that things are changing and most of all we are changing ourselves - which is what the problem has been. Consistent, steady message to galvanise the physical and emotional resources of the club and have us move together. Some respond to money, some respond to wins, some respond to branding.. but all of the changes relate to that same steady message: we're putting the right systems and processes in place, and with that will come success.

I dont want hype; I wont buy into hype (never will since the debacle of cousins first game).. but I will buy into the message and show patience and in my tiny way, reinforce the message

Slowly the winds of change are cleaning out Punt Rd,some of us will embrace it some of us will want nothing to change.
I for one like what Benny is doing, I like that I have contact with the club via emails and the info that Dimma sends out.I love the new players who seem happy and want to be where they are, exciting players who bring tears to my eyes when I watch them sing the song with such passion.
Its human nature that people dont always see things for what they are yes its been hard but you are either with us or a sit on the fence and sling muck type of supporter.
I dont often post but I read every day, and I sometimes wonder if some posters get it.This is Richmond the club that I have loved for over 60 years, its not the emblem some of the others were not so flash either. Its the changes its the close bond the boys have now I cant wait for 2012.

The plan was always to develop the players in the first 2 years of Dimma's reign. Slight improvement was the only bench mark needed.

Now the focus will turn to results. Every game will be about winning.

The pressure to perform starts now..... no more excuses about under prepared...over prepared... inexperienced.... etc... etc... We must start the culture of winning at all costs.

And if that happens, then we can say we ARE DEVELOPING, until then its all talk.:thumbsu::D

Hard not to be a little optimistic given the talent amongst some of our young players and our past 30 years . With a little more luck with injuries we would have made finals comfortably last season whilst still developing players !
Concerns regarding list management ring loud and clear , Dustin is the only player I feel confident in saying is a long term prospect from what was a large crop of players inducted into the club via 2009 ND and trades . Which was only 2 seasons ago, one didn't last a 1/4 of a season before flying the coup, another lasted a season before doing likewise and two others have been delisted !
We continue to struggle for depth and will continue to do so , as a result of having players on the list who either AWOL or on elusive contracts which has prevented them being delisted .
After two season we should have no-one on our list who we would prefer not to have and holds any benefit for the club .
Connors , McGaunne , Graham and White all appear on borrowed time and where all given their current contracts by the same guy who is still in charge of list management !
Yes I think we should play finals in 2012 and have the capacity to make top 4 in 2013, however our ability to overcome unforeseen circumstances , like injuries , has been severly compromised by poor list managent over the recent past .
Our best is very much capable but our list is terribly thin !

I agree with your concerns over the strength of our list. This is not a cop out but unfortunately the current regime only started managing our list at the WORST possible time. Compromised drafts and massive concessions to start up clubs has made this task all that much harder. Not to mention that we probably had the weakest list as a starting point. Building a competitive (albeit thin) list in these circumstances that had us just outside the 8, I believe is a huge step forward.
Yet not once have I heard anyone at the club raise this point. There is no acceptable excuse for poor performance at RFC.

The fact that we are where we are now, I believe is a reflection on the Club as a whole and that we are getting it together off the field and moving in the right direction. Yes there will be challenges ahead but I believe we are over the first few major hurdle, while building our membership and reducing debt at the same time.

The tiger has stirred, it's now about to awake!!

We will make the 8 in 2012. Go Tiges!!

Unfortunately the current regime was in place for the 2009 ND , trade period and also when these players , who appear doomed , where re-contracted !
IMO the current regime have been way to adventurous in it's attempt to build the list , with the consequences only just starting to be seen .
When a group have been at a football club for 2 seasons, and used those two seasons to develop the list , and the generally consensus amongst the mug punter is that there is still so many who look unlikely to be at the club in 2 years, IMO it's poor list management !

Like most years I just ignore the hype and false fanfare and actually wait until we produce meaningful results ....Im stlill waiting :(

I'm a Miserable Old Fart - I've seen it all before. I'll wait until we are challenging for the top 4 before I get too excited.

With the turnover and development of players these days, it is possible to point out significant improvement in any number of players each year. It is also possible to identify players who have stagnated or regressed. Selective memory will always poroduce a rosy outlook.

The only problem is that there are 16 (17) other clubs doing exactly the same thing, with the same number of young players, with the same objective.

I think Richmond are playing the wrong sport - we are a fantastic club with awesome talent between October and March - we just can't handle things when the weather turns cold.

Three things:

1) Stop Crying Poor and Play Games at Home
The reason we are playing games in Darwin and Cairns is because we need the cash. Stop those games, and we will be crying poor a lot louder. We lost a massive chunk of our pokie revenue when Mathisen moved his machines to the Blues, so the options are either replace that income or cut the footy dept. Much rather play interstate and keep 4-5 extra coaches and development staff, than play at Etihad and have reduced numbers.

2) List Management
The list rebuild was always going to be a work in progress over many years, because we had so much dead wood to get rid of. Yes, much of the 09 crop are gone, but most of those gone were very late in the draft, and brought in because we desperately needed some size and experience. Nason and co. served their purpose in 10, but as the kids improved, our need for them reduced. Its a good thing that these guys are being superceeded, because it means the young kids are coming on.

3) Hype
Are you kidding me? Getting worried about the hype of us expecting to not be a cellar dweller any more? If the club cannot handle the hype now, they are stuffed if we are in the 8 and having to deal with the pressure and hype of a final series and the expectation that brings. Expectation will increase as we improve, as it should. The players and club will need to learn to cope with it.

As for us supporters, its actually easier to barrack for a loser team, because you know what you are getting each week. We are going to have to cope with expectation as well, and how to manage disappointment too (just because we miss finals one year doesn't mean we are a basketcase again so sack the coach and the board).

I think your spot on on this PTF, the speculative picks using TT and RR Ben Nason and Mitch Farmer as examples of this are now biting us, we are now talking about pick 79 yet we blew those picks. Admitedly RR was a rookie that was promoted to the list, but we have just delisted all of our rrokies, so where is the production line going to come from.?
